not worth the money!servicewas awful and food was mediocre

great new place. definitely worth checking out. we were there on the third night ofservice--servicewasn't without a hitch but it was perfectly fine and the food was almost uniformly very good. the space was great -- great atmosphere, great vibe. perfect place for dinner in the cultural district, right next to the o'reilly theater. i would definitely go back.

my husband and i had an early dinner at meat and potatoes last friday. we liked the place; ate indoors as it seemed noisy outside. the vibe is good. i enjoyed a pimm's blue ribbon cocktail, and we shared the wedge salad. we're talking pittsburgh portions here, folks. half the salad was quite large. the lettuce was crisp, the bacon crispy, and the blue cheese dressing out of this world. my husband order the pork chop which was huge and a bit tough but tasty. i had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of brussell spouts and kimchee.servicewas strange however. while we were eating the entrees, a bus person approached and asked if the pork was good. my husband said it was. the fellow then launched into a comparison of prices between m&p and a restaurant where his brother works in mount lebanon. he went on for a while. really? while i enjoyed my dish, the very last bite apparently contained a hunk of chile pepper. my mouth was on fire. when the server asked if we wanted dessert, i told him my mouth was on fire and asked if they had ice cream (knowing that milk products help with the problem while water does not). he said they didn't have ice cream, listed the desserts, and was clearly unmoved by my pain. he could have offered a little milk or some other appropriate thing but didn't seem interested in doing so. really?
we'll give it another go. i just hope the wait staff is more professional next time.

i usually only review the food at restaurants because that’s the main reason we eat out but theservicehere is terrible! it’s an absolute insult to wait for waiters 30 minutes to come and take our order of mains. the food is average! the truffle fries are fine while the mushroom flatbread is nice with plenty of fresh mushrooms! the buttermilk fried chicken livers were too spicy and drenched in oil! the bone marrow was disappointing while the risotto is tasty but very heavy. we asked for a glass of milk for the baby and they actually charged us $3 for it! our bill was over $230 so charging us $3 for milk is actually appalling and shameful.

so delicious!! i had the pork chop. it was huge!!! and so delicious! juicy and seasoned perfectly. to start we got the poutine and the gravy was perfect and it was so cheesey i needed my husband to keep using his fork to cut the cheese stands. i also had a very smooth to shelf white russian so props to the bartender!! theservicewas wonderful and fast and the seating was comfortable. in the end i had a cake with apple and apple ice cream on top which was moist and different than i've had at any other restaurant. in conclusion i'm definitely coming back

i have been here several times and while the food is great, theserviceis horrible. i also don't understand the seating. you are literally rubbing elbows with the person next to you. for an expensive dinner i would like to not have to touch the person next to me and wait half an hour for a soft drink.

disappointing experience. well, as suggested i made reservations. however, to get a reservation at a 5:30 i had to make it 4 weeks out. we were about 20 minutes early so we checked in and told the hostess that we were going to be at the bar to get a drink, until our table was ready. my wife was exited to check out the bloody mary bar for $5.00, that we’ve heard so much about. the bar tender proceeded to tell us that the bloody mary bar is only for lunch, but he could make her one. so a bloody mary and a jack and coke came to $22.00 plus tip. ouch! that was a bit more than we were expecting but we were out on the town and just wanted to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. so 5:30 came and went and we still didn’t get a table. so about 5:45 i went back out to the hostess stand and asked about our 5:30 reservation. they told me it would be another few minutes. so we finally get a seat right next to the corner of the bar. the problem is that it was so narrow between the bar and my chair every time somebody went by they would bump into my chair or me. so i asked out waiter if we could move over one table. he did allow us, so that was good. so my wife is sitting against the wall on like a big long velour couch and i was sitting in a velour chair across from her. she was complaining how uncomfortable she was, and so was i at this point. both of our seats felt like the springs were blown out and we were sitting in a hole. the velour upholstery was all stained up and looked filthy. the mirrors on the wall looked filthy at first, but then i realized they were just old pitted. with all of the high ratings, despite the tiny tables, i was expecting better. so as an appetizer we ordered the bone marrow and mushroom risotto. both were very good i must say. for our main course i ordered the hudson valley duck breast and my wife ordered the wagyu flat iron. we both ordered them medium rare as recommended by our waiter. my duck breast was very chewy and gristly, even after i trimmed off what looked fat and gristle. i couldn’t even find a piece that i didn’t have to spit out after a few minutes of chewing. my wife gave me some of her wagyu flat iron to eat instead. it wasn’t bad but defiantly didn’t seem like wagyu beef. i didn’t complain though, i just wanted to get out of the uncomfortable chair i was sitting in and go home. our waiter asked what was wrong with my dinner because i obviously didn’t eat it. so i told him it was very chewy and gristly. he said that was one their signature dishes and after talking to his manager, he took my dinner off of our check. theservicefrom our waiter was good so he got a nice tip, but as for the restaurant, we were very disappointed.

food was pretty good (not $35 good though.) i'd sayservicewas fair, and that's being generous. very nice atmosphere, but overall overpriced and wouldn't return.

make a reservation because this place is so good it's the only way to get a table. this restaurant is excellent and is putting the hurt on several downtown restaurants that have gotten away with crappy food and service. we ate breakfast at the bar and the food andservicewas perfect.

delicious food and great service!. four of us headed over for a light supper after a great day of art events in pittsburgh. we shared 7 dishes and 2 desserts. everything was great. the mussels with frites, pork belly tacos were just a couple of the great items. dessert was panne cotta and pot of chocolate, both amazing.servicewas efficient and fast. nice selection of boutique draft beers as well. definitely recommend meat and potatoes for a great meal.

great food,servicestill needs work. bottom line up front: food outweighs shortcomings of the wait staff.
when we first went to m&p when it opened we instantly loved the food, but not the service.servicewas slow, servers were a little too cool for us and knew nothing about the menu. we've been back on several occassions and the food is still great, but theservicestill isn't.

they are doing a dis-service to their menu and the excellent food on it by having servers who look and act more like they are there to be trendy than to provide actual advice on the menu.

delicious. although i've had some mixed experiences in the past...one of my overall favorite meals of the summer was at meat & potatoes. i really do think you have to order thoughtfully at this restaurant, but if you do, the meal can be really great.

the outside seating area can be a bit cozy, but has just the right amount of seclusion from the street. i've always had goodserviceat meat & potatoes, although the wait-staff is clearly instructed to educate the diners, and sometimes i do feel a little bit like, um, yes, i'm a semi-educated diner, can we move on? probably nice for people who don't know what some of the menu/cocktail items are, though!

the hudson valley duck breast is great--served medium-rare by the chef's recommendation, which is how i like it. the sauerkraut pierogies underneath were also fantastic--adding some texture and acid. i was not a huge fan of the spaetzle at the bottom of the dish. their purpose seemed similar to that of the pierogies, only less successful. still, a delicious dish. my partner had the pot roast--which was a perfectly sized entree with tender meat, horseradish sauce, and creamy, smooth potatoes.

we were not big fans of the mac'n cheese. it was overly saucy for us, with soft noodles and we weren't big fans of the cheese flavor.

from other trips, the salmon, bone marrow, and the lamb burger were also standouts.

they have some lovely revitalist cocktails and if you can manage to time it right, you can get in without too much of a wait!

my new fave spot in pgh. the food was amazing; well prepared, orginal yet not overly ambitious, fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation and tasty! the atmosphere was fun and energetic. theservicewas top notch. everything about this place was great. will be back soon.

meh. food andservicewere great, but the haughty, pretentious, rude hostesses were enough to put me off of this place forever. if we hadn't had theater tickets and a reservation, our party of three would have bolted. i wanted to say, "ladies, it's food--not an existential crisis." too many other great choices in pittsburgh these day to bother giving this place another shot. lose the attitude folks--it's the 'burgh.

fantastic dining. this is what a steakhouse is all about. this was one of the most remembering dining experience. theserviceand meal was excellent. i can't wait to come back to pittsburgh to do it all over again.
