great place doing great things.. with great people to boot. the few members of the staff i spoke with were all very friendly and engaging.
disclaimer: i went on a non-theater night, and sat at the bar. so i can't comment how they handle being packed, or how the service is at the tables.
but the service my brother and i received at the bar was fantastic. they had hudson's manhattan rye...i'd never had it before, so i was going to try it anyway, but i asked about it. one of the bar staff said he often substitutes it for maker's mark. good lord, i hope he was confused. that stuff was terrible. glad i was able to try it at a bar...i'd be mad if i had bought a bottle of that swill. anywho...
i ordered the bone marrow, because well...i've never had it before, and..i just had to. the verdict? well...even from a hardcore fat-o-phile such as myself, spooning straight fat onto bread is pushing it. it's a cool presentation and would be great to order for a party of 4 or more. but i ate maybe one bones' worth. now i can say i've had bone marrow. yay for me.
my pub burger was awesome. the egg is fried perfectly and the pork belly is very tasty. my brother ordered the chorizo burger and seemed to like it. one issue...we both ordered our burgers medium-rare. his came out medium...mine rare. the fact that neither of us minded the mistake is a testament to the quality of the ingredients and preparation otherwise.
given its location, its yuppie and greying clientele, it shoudn't be shocking that the place is kind of expensive.
two apps, two burgers, 2 cocktails, 1 wine, 1 beer= $106.
but let me be clear, this place is very cool. the menu is packed with dishes everyone likes, just taken to a much more refined and sophisticated level. i need to try the mac n' cheese...every person i know that's been here said it was fantastic.
i also look forward to trying the barrel-aged manhattan when it's ready in a few weeks.
can't wait to go back. great place.
