ok, the place is deafening. there were 20 or 30 20-somethings, packed around a huge table assembly on the first floor, obviously well lubricated and quite vocal.

the second floor was mostly empty with several two and four-tops. it was loud (so leave your cell phone in the car as you will not be talking on it). you probably should be enjoying the food anyway.

ordered thepotatoleek soup, patty melt, and beer fries.

thepotatoleek soup was wonderful. do yourself a favor and order the bowl. you will hate yourself for having only ordered a cup. the broth is relatively thin, clear, and flavorful with chunks ofpotatoand a bunch of chopped leeks.

the patty melt was good. two cheeses, 8oz burger patty, and grilled onions on marbled rye. not terribly greasy as so often happens with patty melts. i ordered mine well done as usual for hamburger - but apparently they will cook to order. i'm kind of careful when ground meats are involved.

beer fries were good as well. kind of crispy outside, soft on the inside. not flacid in the least. they had a very light coating of what i presume is beer batter on the outside. very nicely done. they didn't seem to appear on the menu but my server, seth, offered them up anyway as an alternative to the thicker cut pub fries.

seth was pretty amazing. he got the order right, was both attentive and helpful, and i suspect reads lips. yes, it is that loud, even after the herd of 20-somethings departed, but the food is worth it.

love the food! bad acoustics..... the food is good, the beer list goes above and beyond. however, if you aren't by yourself and you actually want to hear the people you're with speaking in a normal tone, you're out of luck. way too loud! used to go for burger night, and always loved the great deal. not to mention the sweetpotatofries they served on the side were always crispy and hot when they got to your table.

hard to stay away. first and foremost, great beer. secondly, great prices! for a selection this large i would expect to pay more and yet they are somehow able to maintain affodability. the atmosphere is great, the bar top is very large and accomodates big groups nicely. the food is what you'd expect from a pub, a few neat choices and a bunch of regular, mediocre dishes. thepotatoleek soup is delicious, as is the tabouli. for sunday brunch, a table on the second floor is nice especially near the omelette chef, who is easily more entertaining than any waiter there.
overall this place is a great addition to oklahoma city and deserves at least one visit.

sweet salty sensation. while attending my great niece's graduation party, i paired the sweetpotatofries with the south city chicken. the result was a savory grilled chicken breast topped with fresh avocado and pico. the fries were light, sweet, and salty. fine servoce too.

i love mcnellie's!  yeah, it's loud...i get that.  but have you been in a pub in dublin?  yes, i promise you that it's loud.  i've spent a lot of time there, i know!  the food at mcnellie's is great.  they make from scratch all the sauces, salad dressings, soups, croutons, etc...  the vegetable's are fresh and colorful (as they should be...dark green lettuces, ripe red tomato)... definately not the norm for okc!  great artichoke dip, the best blt ever!, great burgers, the best sweetpotatofries i've ever had...ask to dip them in their homemade irish blue cheese dressing.  it. is. amazing.  i can't tell you how much i love this dressing.  i hate, loathe and despise blue cheese.  but i'm here to tell you that the homemade irish blue cheese dressing at mcnellie's is a m a z i n g! i like how they separate the smoking from the nonsmoking at mcnellie's...they don't do that in ireland.  the menu has a wide variety of food and the best beer menu i've ever seen (but i won't drink anything other than guinness or chimay...but i will sample).  just give it a try for yourself.  don't not try it based on the weak negative reviews on here.  i traveled around europe and, to me, this is what the pub is all about...food, drink, music, conversation...yeah, it's loud, but that means it's happy!

my very cute and civic-minded roommate had jury duty this past week, so for the first day lunch break i picked her up, and we went to lunch. we tried an okc institution that used to be called kaiser’s ice cream, and is now called the grateful bean, but they were closed monday’s. we made a trip across the traffic circle to brown’s bakery to pick up some doughnuts and cookies, and then headed more around the circle to mcnellie’s. it smelled pretty good. i started off with some chili as my soup. it was very chunky, and not too bad at all. since the temperature outside was 41f, it hit the spot. i also got the cottage pie, with mashed potatoes on the side. cottage pie is essentially shepards pie, and so had mashed potatoes in it. i didn’t finish the side order, but they were good. the cottage pie was really good, not too spicy, but hotter than heck. it had some peas and carrots in it, and the gravy in it was a good complement. raegan got a blt, and she was very happy they had sweetpotatof

best thing ever: cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato soup. just do it. pair with a pilsner or pale ale for a nice contrast.

just plain good. i always seem to forget to review some of my most favorite places, and i must apologize to mcnellie's. i've been here countless times to sample their formidable beer menu, and still plenty of times to put real hearty food in my belly.

yes, it's pub food. you're going to see fish & chips and other standard fare, and it's all as good as you could ask for. today i discovered my new favorite here against all odds -- grilled cheese with tomato soup. it sounds so simple, it's priced so reasonably (for a pub dinner), but somehow the buttery crispness and creamy tomato basil goodness bounced so perfectly off my sam smith's india ale it became a little emotional. maybe it was the 19oz beer talking, but that's kind of the point here.

all in all you're generally going to have a great experience here unless you're with horrible company, which means you probably just need new friends. they have a little faster server turnaround than i'd prefer, as every time i'm here it's someone who just started, but in each case they've been fun, attentive, and at least moderately knowledgeable.

ps, try the sweetpotatofries. you won't regret it.
