words fail to describe.... how wonderful it is! it's a mecca for foodies. it's outta this world. don't bother flying to rome--going to mazzaro's is like going into an italian grotto. one that's filled with affordable numnums that will make you feel like that cartoon dog from the 1960's that floated in the air whenever he ate something good.
who ever heard of dried prosciutto? it was the first thing i grabbed. omg it's like bacon candy. i could eat a whole tub.
we spent less than $100 and got tons of amazing products, including 3 or 4 types of cheese, fresh pastas, two kinds of pasta sauces, smoked fish spread (only $4.99) beer cheese/vegetable soup, belgian ale, fentiman's soda, pierogis (fresh), freshly made halva (the best i've ever tasted), a loaf of fresh bread, and i forget what all else.
it was indeed a madhouse on a saturday afternoon so i did not get to try any of the deli selections. it was like being in nyc. but i plan to return on monday morning to have coffee and a sfioiadelle (sp?) or some other tasty pastry. thisplaceknocks the socks off morton's in sarasota, formerly my favorite fl grocery store. this is the real deal. it even beats zabar's or dean & deluca. does zabar's even exist any more? i haven't been to nyc in 20 years.
