bloody mary martini = great idea. i can't remember what the martini was called, but it was essentially a bloody mary in a martini glass. except the oyster (and all of it's juices) in the bottom of the glass was reminiscent of childhood happy meals / friendly's kid sundaes. have one (or two) and you'll see what i mean. delicious.
the fresh oysters are amazing - a varied selection from different regions. they are all different in size, plumpness, and taste. oddly enough, i remember that one of my favorites were the blue point. maybe because this is what i've equated oysters with over the years? regardless, i'd like to go back and try more! ...and maybe find a new favorite?
the paella dish is huge and tasty as well.
the entire experience was an overwhelmingly positive one - from the service, the ambience, the atmosphere, the clientele (one of the few restaurants i've gone where people looked polished, which is nice for a special evening out), the monogrammed butter dish and take-away bags (yes, monogrammed. but over-the-top touches like this make a special meal even more memorable), the drinks, the food, and of course the oysters! i give it all an a.
note: prior to visiting the restaurant, i read the results of a poll wheremax'soyster won the prestigious but frightening title of "place to go when your enemy is paying". i went with my boyfriend, we both had (2) drinks, apps, and dinners and the bill (with tax and tip) was just over $100.00. i'd consider this a great value at any decent restaurant - and withmax'sservice and quality of food, they're certainly at a higher caliber than that.
