visually, the food we've ordered (lamb couscous & hummingbird cake) is not entirely appetizing. however, it does taste really good. way better than it looks. the cake melts in your mouth and the lamb coucous is bursting with flavour. highly recommended eatery. they just need to improve their speed of service.

my sister booked a big table outside at mavis & co with around 20 guests for her birthday. the service wasn't great with such a big group but once we got our food it was delicious. i ordered the lemon crepe which was nice but slightly too sweet and a piece of russian fudge to takeaway which was very smooth and creamy. the cabinet food was beautifully displayed and everything in it looked very enticing. i think next time i would order from the cabinet instead of the menu and come with a smaller group. worth a second visit though!

my favorite cafe! a busy little place tucked away in grey street. love the design, how beautiful the sweets are displayed, the staff that quickly clear tables and that they bring out the cutlery with the food (much more hygienic!) i love that i can order cabinet food every time! their cabinet food is delish! prices are good too! oh also loved their beetroot side sauce! :)

pretty quirky spot on a busy corner with reasonable parking. butchers cabinet display of a good selection of product, i tried one of their house made pies and whilst it was ok i wouldn't write home to my mother about it, certainly not at $8 for the experience. they also run a reasonably extensive table menu and have a more wine bar type style to one side of the business. had a reasonable flat white on my visit although there is better to be had in the town. still this is a decent spot that is a little different to take the inlaws to when they are visiting

ambiance: impressive for hamilton. nicely tucked away to prevent the common crowd. well styled and nicely laid out. a bit dark inside though.
service: friendly people and prompt delivery of food and drinks.
coffee: not ordered. they do however use l'affare beans (a top pick of mine). the other mavis & co near wintec uses havana beans (my all time top pick) so they're on track.
food: ordered the beef burger and the chicken panini. both were fresh and delicious with quality ingredients.
price: it was up there but still reasonable for the quality. wouldn't want to be shouting too many people though.

overall: i shall return! next time i will be more investigative of their coffee and busy period service.

arrived to do the saturday brunch thing - it was fairly busy and really noisy inside, decided to sit outdoors! i received my coffee fairly quickly and breakfast didn't take too long. it wasn't long before our ordered breakfast arrived just cooked the way i like it! i even ordered another coffee, so my visitors who arrived enjoyed their breakfast and coffee. it was yum and it came as highly recommended by someone else!

love mavis! maybe my fav for lunch, awesome cabinet options, great value for money and food is attractively presented..love the quesadilla which is served with salad and love the accompanying beetroot. it's great to have full meal, snacks savory or sweet, there's always something to match my mood. the coffee's is good no matter who is on, the consistency is great. my daughter loves the hot choc, with the stick of chocolate.. mavis's is usually very busy and noticed this can impact cleanliness in the courtyard at times.. sorry there is no excuse for tables staying uncleared for an extended period of time. fix this and i'd struggle to find any negatives.

last year this cafe was worth 5 stars. sadly this is not the case now. my daughter, her two children and myself visited. after ordering, we sat at a table that wasn't cleared or cleaned until we asked. the children and i got our order. however by the time my daughter finished her coffee it was evident they had forgotten her lunch. after asking, it was brought out, so we had to sit and wait for her to eat it.

after three visits with this establishment i can't say i'll be back. my final visit was on a saturday afternoon for late lunch, place was relatively quiet. coffees were served in very small cups, food was decidedly average, and one staff member didn't really seem interested in serving us at all. over the time we were seated outside (about 45 minutes) three other tables around us not cleared, meaning other patrons had limited choices for seating. not good enough for a return visit

called in for brunch having followed this eatery on fb for a while. waited 50 minutes for food that was overpriced, cold and bland. left over half the meal on the plate. the cabinet food looked lovely but was very disappointing.

everybody already knows this. but for those who don't, this is the best cafe in hamilton for its amazing range of visible cakes and savory food. the only complaint is it is too hard to choose so end up over ordering :)

we have visited mavis & co on a number of occasions mainly for lunch. overall it seems to be over rated and over crowded. the staff rarely smile or make you feel welcome. we have given the coffee so many second chances we are now over it. we found it to be luke-warm and lots of froth disguising half cups of coffee. the food looks inviting in the cabinets but is expensive for what it is. the specials board had hand cut chips once since then all we see is shoe string fries which take an age to arrive and are no better than mcdonalds fries. hardly what you would expect from a cafe pretending to be more up market than it really is. we are now driving to other cafes for lunch even though we work 5 minutes walk from mavis. we hope someone associated with mavis sees this review and acts on it.

the coffee and food here is amazing. the only reason i did not give it 5 stars is because it gets very crowded. you need to get in early, like 9.30 for morning tea or 11.30 for lunch.

we were visiting from out of town, meeting up in hamilton - mavis & co was recommended by the lovely staff at hamilton gardens information centre. we left vowing to make this our regular rendezvous spot. gorgeous decor, amazing and eye-catching array of cabinet food, an interesting menu that includes old favourites and classics with a twist, and great coffee and smoothies. also genuinely friendly and helpful service. only suggestion would be getting those broken umbrellas repaired and perhaps get a couple more before summer. the handy on-site parking was a treat for us jaffas. already looking forward to our next visit.
