we were very excited about dining at madam woo,as we are big josh emmett fans and had heard great things.
it was a busy saturday night but we were happy to have drinks and wait for a table. we went to the upstairs bar, unfortunately the tables went clean and the barman didnt take any notice of us, he was too busy talking to friends. my brother waiting about 10mins at the bar for him to finish his convo before he served us. this was pretty disappointing but did not reflect the srvice for the rest of the night. once we were seated we had a thorough run down of the menu by our great waiter.
we ordered a good amount of food! we ordered all the steamed and fried selection, the crispy wontons were my favourite. the satay prawns were cooked great but the tumeric coating was a little strong for my liking. the pork hawker roll was absolutely impossible to fault, one of the tastiest things ive ever eaten! so flavoursome and the roti was so crispy and delish.
for mains we shared the fried noodles, beef rendang and a steamed whole blue cod, and the laksa. the noodles were great but the pork sausage had a strange texture. the rendang came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! juicy beef pieces with a yummy sauce, also loved that the rice came with all the trimmings. the fish was nice but we agreed we could have gone without, it was fiddly to eat and the bones with a bit annoying. laksa was good too, strong flavours and nice and thick.
everything was brought to us in a timely fashion even though the place was full. most of the food was as good as expected but the bar service really let us down. the decor was great without being too much. now that im back im auckland ill definitely be trying the madam woo in takapuna!
