the only one asian restaurant inqueenstowncbd. the food is not bad but not a surprise for us from asia. the prices are expansive compare to the quality of food served.

despite having been to the madam woo that was located in christchurch, a recent victim of either covid or the relocation of foot traffic to the newer terrace area, and enjoyed the food - my selection inqueenstownleft me thirsty!

thequeenstownrestaurant isn’t huge and space is tight, but not so much so as to make you feel claustrophobic. 80s hits envelop the room, which seems slightly out of kilter with the food style, but the number of people quietly singing along to tiffany and fleetwood mac indicates that few people care about this cultural incompatibility.

considering we are still very much in a post-covid phase with borders closed, it was very busy. in fact the whole ofqueenstownseemed busy - maybe not pre-covid busy but a lot of nzers about for the school holidays. very different from when we lived down this way and barely struck another nz family anywhere.

anyway, the food. i have particular dietary requirements these days which are often hard to fulfil, and i don’t expect restaurants to be able to cater to my reduced carb needs - so i look for what i can get away with. not much on this menu other than the pork belly with asian greens and oyster sauce.

i knew to expect a saltier than average dish due to the oyster sauce but i wasn’t really prepared for just how salty it actually was. i’m not averse to salt either - i’m not afraid to use it on even salads. this was too much for me though and the reduced carb requirement meant i couldn’t offset it with rice even a little bit.

was so salty i didn’t finish it and couldn’t - my wife happily grabbed the pork and had it with her rice so it just looked like i ate it.

the service was great, staff attentive and i enjoyed the flashback musical soundtrack we were exposed to but the main dish was a significant let down i’m afraid.

madam woo wasn’t atqueenstownwhen i last visited the town in 2014, so that got me to try something new! and no regrets. the interior is so unique that it has light touches of malaysian history yet not overboard and still carries the fusion within. madam woo is spread around new zealand in cities like christchurch, takapuna, hamilton and queenstown.

for all the hype surrounding madam woosqueenstownhonestly this place is quite average. the service was great and food ok but my main gripe was that the food was not steaming hot. now i am not sure if that’s how it’s meant to be served but i like my hot food served hot :) we did not get a booking last time around and quite frankly it was alright after waiting 4 years to try this place out. i will definitely try the other branches out though. we ordered the hawker rolls which was probably the best thing we did order rate this at 4) -1 in chicken and the other eggplant. ginger and prawn dumplings (3.5), mushroom spring rolls (3.5) and my least favorite the fried chicken (2). this was too dry and room temperature.

influenced by traditional malaysian hawker food, madam woo first open it's doors in 2013 inqueenstownand then expanded to 4 more restaurants that are now scattered across nz. beef  murtabak nz$10. this stuffed pan-fried bread was filled with curry flavoured beef mince and potato cubes that had absorbed all the beef flavour. the bread was super crispy and flaky, you could hear it sing when biting into it. we found it enjoyable solo or with the accompanying creamy curry dip.

their soft shell crab is a winner! if i'm going to back toqueenstownand to this restaurant, i'm definitely going to order it again. this place is so busy though. we didn't have a reservation so we were told we can only dine in for a certain length of time. also, it's quite expensive - food is nice but i think not a great value for money. i guess we really can't expect it to be cheap as it's in the centre of a popular tourist location.

really nice service. had our first day dinner inqueenstownand definitely worth it. we ordered pork hawker, soft shell crab and fish curry. all were a little salty but still fantastic. highly recommend the hawker and 'ping pong' cocktail . most importantly, sitting outside to enjoy the beautiful views.

nestled inqueenstownmall with gorgeous views of the lakefront area (if you sit outside) this is a restaurant that should be given a try. their menu consist of meals that are made to share with individual options also available.

the staff are quite helpful and insist on assisting in case the guests struggle to choose from the menu. quite a different menu from the usual that thai restaurants offer (although this is more asian fusion).

the food itself, depending on what you order can be a hit or a miss. i had ordered the rednang with chicken, which is a spicy dish and i can't handle spicy. so whilst the coconut milk added great flavour i couldn't quite enjoy the food to the maximum as i was struggling to handle the spice.

we got back from a sightseeing trip and was not sure what to have as it was quite late when we arrived back atqueenstowncentral. as we strolled down the mall, we came across this restaurant and gave it a go. we tried the nasi lemak, squid & beef rendang. nasi lemak was on the okay side to be honest. beef rendang was also on the okay side. it tasted a little bit flat. the highlight for me was the squid. the squid dish was perfection! nicely seasoned, full of flavour and just delish. i am glad the waitress suggested the squid dish, otherwise we would have had a so so experience. overall it was a nice experience. thank you.

we got to sit in the back area under the heaters which was very pleasant as it was a beautiful night. service was absolutely marvellous and very attentive staff even when 'in the back'.
the prawn skewers were good albeit a little dry with the spices that covered them.
chicken curry main was nice and spivey. a bit of a hiccup with a cold piece, however expertly recovered by the wait staff with some free roti.
the dessert of lemongrass mousse with goji was impeccable flavour with a divine look.
i love the green tea coming in a quaint tea pot, and the vietnamese coffee with condensed milk was divine.
very satisfied with the food and the cheap price forqueenstownwas quite a nice surprise!

stopped here for a late lunch on a beautifulqueenstownsaturday. it was fairly quiet at 3.30pm even with the craft market on. food is really pricey for what it is - $29 for char way teow or chicken curry? i ordered the pulled pork 'hawker roll' which was really quite yummy. it better be for $14. it was enough for a light lunch. decor was very nice and staff were pleasant and friendly. would i go back again? not unless i was seriously craving singaporean/malaysian food on my holiday.

god sake it was a total polar opposite for the same resturant name ive ever experienced before! the takapuna madams in auckland was arss when we tried it, so i had to force my queen to try this one and we where both completely blown away by the standard of the taste, texture and quality thequeenstownlocation offered - auckland (the dirty little cousin) needs to get it together big time!

the service was amazing and it helped with an easy on the eye scottish lass who looked after us, she was gold!

highly recommend when in qt
