not what i expected. we researched and read the menu before deciding to try lupi and leo today for lunch at about 2:00 in the afternoon. we were greeted and seated promptly and then immediately offered a drink, "would you like to try one of our specialty teas? we have strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry." each of our party of four ordered a tea. it wasn't until after we'd drank half of them and when the waitress came back and asked if we'd like another that she told us it would be $2.50 for a refill. and it wasn't until we got the bill that we found out that not only was the one glass of tea $2.50 but that there was a $1 charge for each glass for the flavored syrup. buyer beware, drinks are not on the menu and prices are not told ahead of time. so two glasses of tea with flavored syrup cost $7 for my spouse and i (plus another $7 for our friends that we dined with). this is ridiculous.
now, onto the food. the slice of pizza that my husband ordered was undercooked. the dough was gummy and moist in the middle, and the cheese wasn't completely melted. one of our party ordered the cuban rueben and then the waitress had to return to our table to say that they were out of sauerkraut. she then watched as another worker brought the sauerkraut into the restaurant and said that they would indeed be able to make the sandwich. i ordered the "grilled ribeye salad- $12.99
tender ribeye steak grilled with garlic herb butter, sautéed mushrooms, red onion,
roasted peppers, french fries & your choice of cheese (shredded mozzarella, cheddar or bleu cheese) all on
mixed greens. " the salad was a huge disappointment. i asked for my bleu cheese crumbles on the side and they were served on the salad and not as requested. the tender ribeye steak was reminiscent of thick steak-ums and didn't taste like it was grilled with garlic herb butter. the mushrooms, red onion, and roasted peppers were overcooked, the fries (frozen seasoned curly fries) were cold and worst of all, the "mixed greens" were iceberg and two pieces of spinach. this for $12.99 was underwhelming. my friend got the "baby spinach and goat cheese soufflé salad- $12.99
slow roasted chicken, pickled red onion, toasted pistachios, all covered in a warm bacon vinaigrette with a goat cheese soufflé on the side." and said that it was already drowning in dressing before adding any to it on her own. the chicken tasted like it had been boiled and there was so little spinach that it wasn't worth the $12.99 price. the breadsticks served with the salads looked like large dog bones and were not much more than very hard cooked pizza dough.
now, the guys in our party both ordered sandwiches and loved them. the cuban reuben was a big hit as was the twisted chicken was a delightful flavor sensation.
i wouldn't return to this restaurant. i'm always on a quest for a good salad and thisplacedid not deliver.
well, that and the "specialty tea" that is not special at all.
