lucile's creole cafe

greasy food, long waits, crowded. their food is good, not amazing, and certainly notgoodenough to make up for the attributes i listed in the title. i don't hate lucile's, i've actually been several times; i just wouldn't go out of my way to go back anymore.

a year ago i'd have given them a 2. the food has gotten decidedly better because a year ago they got a new head cook. all the egg dishes are delicious, grits are standard, need a little salt and butter, maybe a splash of hot sauce. the sausage gravy and biscuits are just dang rich and delicious. the café au lait or coffee with chicory used to be sour and too strong but it's perfectly rich and smooth now. they've definitely stepped it up. the creamed spinach could use a little more seasoning other than that i can't complain. had a reallygoodsandwich special one day with heirloom tomatoes that were definitely heirloom tomatoes. i was happy.

gone down hill/ i will not go back. the ponchitrain breakfast was horrible. i have had this dish before. this time it was pretty scary. imagine runny grits on a flat plate. the fish was greasy. i am gluten free. they are not doing a corn meal breading anymore, so it was just the filet cooked in grease and it was burnt tasting grease. the trout was fishy tasting also. the grits were runny and not warm and they were over the top of the trout. the poached eggs may have been okay but they were ruined by the cold hollandaise sauce. the coffee has never beengoodthere, so i am done. i am not going back.

if you ain't sweatin', you ain't eatin'. great sunday brunch! the eggs and potatoes were so fresh and the sausages were very cajun.goodvariety, prices and wonderful service. even with the line out the door, the wait was fewer than ten minutes. 87 degrees in march and i was drenched from the heat, flavor and spice of the food.

great brunch with a cajun flair. loved the cafe mocha and stuffed french toast. there is a wait on the weekends but well worth it. the homemade strawberry jam is delicious with their humongous biscuits. service has always beengoodbut it is quite jammed packed in there.

been waiting a long time to try this place..we've heard nothing butgoodreviews from locals. finally tried it today, a big disappointment. only waited 15 min, cute crowed table. waitstaff mediocre. bengiets were fab,one of 2 orders came wrong. sorry we sent it back, the bacon was charcoal & indelible, based eggs were fried hard. had to ask for coffee refill and pretty pricey for what you get. 2.50 cups of coffee kind of high. probably will not return or reccomend. sorry lucille.

cajun brunch is the best!. despite the huge crowd outside we managed to find agoodparking space and waited only 15 minutes for a table this saturday. we sat down and ordered a plate of beignets...because how could you not?! they came out hot and covered in powdered sugar. we smeared apple butter and strawberry rhubarb jam all over them and i honestly could not believe how wonderful it was. then came the biscuits...i should have just made a meal out of biscuits and apple butter. they were huge, pan biscuits with speckles of butter and a great buttermilk flavor. i did not though and i got hank's eggs which was more a gigantic plate of potatoes and peppers but the seasoning was delicious. i also had the grapefruit juice which was incredible. the pain perdu is to die for as well. just make sure you plan on eating only one meal the day you come to lucile's and make it brunch!

syrup, it's about the syrup. lucile's in boulder is a quaint little white house with the best syrup i've ever tasted. lucile's in longmont shares the samegoodfood, but the building itself (also an old house) is far less appealing.
