greasy food, long waits, crowded. their food is good, not amazing, and certainly not good enough to make up for the attributes i listed in the title. i don't hate lucile's, i've actually been several times; i just wouldn't go out of my way to go back anymore.

my husband and i hadn't been to the boulder location for awhile, but yesterday we met friends for lunch there. it's always been one of our favorites since our sons were small more than 30 years ago. it's a quaint place, fairly small and cramped, with tons of atmosphere. and nearly always a wait list because it's worth waiting for. we just love it. our food was great, as usual. i had been to charleston and savannah a couple of weeks ago, taking advantage of local cuisine. the collard greens here are better than any i'd had in either place. we'll always return to this place. but don't look for diet-friendly dishes here (usually).

lucile's is one of the reasons i moved to colorado. the creole cuisine is divine and i love the shrimp and grits. one day whilst lunching on the porch, a neighborhood cat came walking down the sidewalk, rounded to the front of the house and up the stairs

a year ago i'd have given them a 2. the food has gotten decidedly better because a year ago they got a new head cook. all the egg dishes are delicious, grits are standard, need a little salt and butter, maybe a splash of hot sauce. the sausage gravy and biscuits are just dang rich and delicious. the café au lait or coffee with chicory used to be sour and too strong but it's perfectly rich and smooth now. they've definitely stepped it up. the creamed spinach could use a little more seasoning other than that i can't complain. had a really good sandwich special one day with heirloom tomatoes that were definitely heirloom tomatoes. i was happy.

comfortable homey feeling with quick wait staff.  my dish, egg new orleans consisted of nicely fried egg plant topped with creole sauce and two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.  i chose potatoes (nicely flavored) over grits for my starch dish. stan, my buddy, had eggs benedict that had a very nice portion of ham.  both came with large buttermilk biscuit. quaint place to go for any meal.  the beignets look delicious all puff up and covered with powder sugar but i was fall at this go around. tables are rather small. not sure if it met ada standard's.  i saw no ramps for entry.   would call first before visiting to make sure they can accommodate your specific disability.

it's my go to place to get some hot beignets and chicory coffee. it can be very crowded at times, so plan for some wait. the service is sometimes spotty.

gone down hill/ i will not go back. the ponchitrain breakfast was horrible. i have had this dish before. this time it was pretty scary. imagine runny grits on a flat plate. the fish was greasy. i am gluten free. they are not doing a corn meal breading anymore, so it was just the filet cooked in grease and it was burnt tasting grease. the trout was fishy tasting also. the grits were runny and not warm and they were over the top of the trout. the poached eggs may have been okay but they were ruined by the cold hollandaise sauce. the coffee has never been good there, so i am done. i am not going back.

very nice breakfast. i finally got around to breakfast at lucile's. i am not sure why it took me so long, as it isn't far from my house and i pass it regularly. i really enjoyed the breakfast. coffee was hot, fresh and strong, the beignet very tasty. i had eggs eisenhower for breakfast with a combo of grits and potatoes, along with a side of the spicy sausage. it was a perfect accompaniment to the coffee and potatoes.

the chicory coffee, beignets, and homemade strawberry rhubarb jam are delicious; there are also exotic creole entrees as well as more standard (but still slightly-exotic) fare.
