delicious!. i went to loschilitosfor the first time last night, and it was great! there was a bit of a line to get in, but that's to be expected on a hot saturday night. it didn't seem that long of a wait anyways, and the staff were always checking for finished diners to make sure they let as many people in as quickly as possible. the food was really hot and delicious, and the drinks were good. service was also good, and fast! i have no idea what other people are complaining about, i'd definitely go here again!

great food and incredible atmosphere. i don't get the reason why canadians like their pubs dark and smelling like spilled beer and frying oil... loschilitosis warm, bright and it smells like home.

mexican fare, the mexican way. authentic mexican fare is hard to find in this city, but loschilitoscan do it right.

this place can be very busy - so i would recommend reservations well ahead.

the saturday night we were there, we had reservations, but the table of people that were expected to leave in a reasonable amount of time to free up a table for us kept ordering rounds of drinks. so we waited about 35-40 minutes and there isn't much room to wait...just a few chairs in a narrow hallway outside of the kitchen doors. we felt that we were constantly in the way of the waitstaff that had to pick their way around our feet that we had nowhere else to place.

we were compensated for our unexpected long wait by a small discount on our overall bill, which was appreciated.

it was obviously party night - the place was incredibly loud with 2 or more large groups commandeering most of the small restaurant's seating space. there is a patio - which will be great in warmer weather, but this wasn't one of those nights.

while we waited, we ordered drinks and i for one was amused to see the large size margaritas arrive in goldfish bowls. the rim was nicely salted - i didn't, but was sorely tempted to forgo the straw and drink directly from the bowl. maybe if i had ordered a second one this would have happened.

the menu is nice and simple, predominately tacos (their specialty), burritos and the various sides.

i was a little disappointed to learn that they weren't preparing their own tortillas in house, but was told that they were considering doing so in the near future. as it was, the tortillas that came with the meal seemed to be fresh and of a reasonable quality for commercially prepared ones.

it was nice to see a couple of speciality soups - birria and pozole on the menu. i tried the birria and it may have been my favorite dish of the evening.

the tacos were good but not among the greatest that i have had. this was a very good "for calgary" taco. again, the tortillas should have been warm and i found the carnitas to be too dry. sure, i could (and did) douse it with salsa and guacamole ...but i shouldn't have to.

i also felt the portions of salsa were on the small side. we ran out of salsa before we ran out of the main dish. i didn't ask for more - so maybe that would have been an option. i note that a portion of salsa can be had for $1.95 each. that would have certainly been an option. i think enough salsa to eat with the main dish, should come with the main and not be an extra charge.

the service was friendly but not easy to access because of the extremely busy restaurant.

i was also happy to see a flan on the dessert menu. as full as i was, i had to try it. it had the right flavor, but the bottom was a little too leathery (meaning it wasn't as fresh as it could have been) . i didn't finish it.

i liked loschilitosenough to come back for another visit and to try their other dishes. it's nice to see these dishes so authentically prepared.

i hope they have fresh made tortillas next time i visit!

worst customer service ever!!!!! not only are they rude and call their customers liars they can't admit to their faults! i ordered 6 chicken tacos through skip the dishes and once i got them they were pork! i phoned the restaurant and they told me i was lieing and that it was chicken. i informed them i eat here very often and know the difference between the pork and chicken. they proceeded to tell me they didn't care and they wouldn't do anything about it. i don't mind mistakes but own up to them! something loschilitoscan't seem to do.

loschilitosis basically a restaurant in a house. it’s so tiny inside it must only seat 30 people. the good thing though is that even though it is on 17th ave, it’s tucked away and inconspicuous enough that it’s never very busy. this entry is sort of cheating as we’ve been here once before but i didn’t have a blog then. i figure i’ll probably write mostly based on this experience, but throw in a few that i remember from our first venture.
well we thought this was a good idea as we left our house down in the south end of town. it was snowing lightly and quite pretty out actually. huh. that shit changed real quick. this is calgary so at any given time the weather will change, then change again, and be different yet again in a different part of the city. so downtown is blizzarding almost. good plan, right?
we came all this

located in an adorable old home, loschilitosis warm and inviting and feels like you’re in the middle of mexico (even on a snowy march day). we started with the ceviche ($10) with cod fish, onion, cilantro, jalapeno and tomato served with crispy tortillas. the tortillas were lovely and fresh, as was the ceviche — though the onions definitely made their presence known, which is a good thing for onion fans. katie had the chile relleno (the online menu prices are a bit less than actual prices and i didn’t take a menu photo for this particular dish but i think it was around $15). a fresh poblano pepper filled with ground beef, beans and

great tacos. my husband and i were visiting calgary and found lots of places we were wanting to try closed on easter monday so we were heading to moxies on 17th. as we crossed the street, we saw that loschilitoswas open. doesn't look like much from the outside, but we were wanting mexican so i checked out the menu online. looked good so we went in. was surprised at how busy it was and what a warm, nice little restaurant. we shared the empanada argentina for an appetizer. they were delicious and we both loved the chimchurri sauce to go with it. then we both had tacos which were fantastic (fish for dh and shrimp for me). they took a little while to come, but not a big deal for us as we were out just the two of us and on holidays. will definitely be going back next time we are in calgary.

sunday or should i say sinday in our case, was my first time checking out loschilitoslocated at 1309 17th avenue sw. it has become somewhat of a tradition for my group of girlfriends and i do to brunch before the lilac fest and then go for a traipse and shop for jewelry and accessories. we had a blast on sunday and topped it off with a big family/friend bbq in the sunshine. the day definitely started off right with some beergaritas and just went up from there. here are some highlights:

we went to loschilitosfor breakfast on a saturday morning. we had huevos divorciados and enchiladas with mole sauce. the mole sauce on the enchiladas was great. my eggs had salsa verde and hot salsa and both were very flavorful. we sat on the patio and greatly enjoyed our meals while listening to latin music. i recommend it to anyone who likes authentic mexican food.

you are on 17th ave with a million great places to eat, pass on this one.. went to try loschilitoslast night for the first time. it was a cloudy, somewhat cold day. the restaurant looked very busy, and there was a line up coming down the stairs from the patio. we stood in line, hoping it was the line to get a table. we weren't acknowledged for 20 minutes, despite the waitresses walking past us and looking as confused as us. eventually they sat us and we were on our way to the food.

i ordered the enchiladas which were incredibly gross. my plate must have been the first they cooked from the table as it came out cold. sauce left a fowl taste in my mouth. i tapped out about half way through eating the dish as i couldn't take anymore. my friends ordered the burrito mexicano (which was plagued by a lot of the same problems as my dish) and the cochinita pibil tacos...which were actually pretty good.

i may give loschilitosanother try somewhere down the road, but i feel if you are visiting calgary or looking for a new place to try on 17th ave, there are probably one hundred better options.

besides the excellent food, we always find the service to be quick and attentive, and this visit was no exception. i have yet to be disappointed with the food at loschilitosand i hope it stays that way because i plan on going back for some more mexican brunch.

loschilitoscalgary restaurant photo 1if you are looking for some delicious and authentic mexican food, then loschilitoson 17th avenue sw in calgary is your best bet! no other mexican restaurants in calgary even compare to the quality of food found at this fine restaurant. one of the things i immediately noticed was that everyone working inside including the kitchen staff, appeared to be of latin descent; meaning the mexican food at loschilitosreally is authentic mexican cuisine, and it sure tastes like it!

horrible!!!. my experience at loschilitoswas horrendous!!!
the food was good, but the service was absolutely horrid!!!
drinks were made wrong, including a caeser that looked and tasted like a half a bottle of worcheschire sauce was in it. we were talked about visibly by the wait and bar staff, the waitress sat down with her friends for about 20 minutes and had a drink with them, when we were paying, the waitress was lurking waiting for us to leave, and when we didn't leave a tip for the horrendous service on a $300 bill, the waitress, bartender and friend came out of the restaurant, and yelled and swore at the party i was with.
i would never go to this place again, and would not reccomend it as well!!!

terrible food. went to loschilitosfor dinner the other night and it was a bad experience. when i walked in the place was totally smokey and gross. i think they must have burned something, so i asked the host to open a window! my friend and i ordered a couple margaritas which were ok (can't usually go wrong with drinks). it's the food that was awful. i ordered a burrito that was supposed to have beans, rice, pork, cheese, salsa, sour cream etc. in it but all i could really see or taste was the re-fried black beans in it. seriously, mucho burrito can make you a burrito that tastes way better for less than half the price. i think that's why bothers me most about this place - it is overpriced for the kind of food it is serving. $16 for a crappy burrito and a few chips? also, it would be nice when you sat down if they served a few chips and homemade salsa or something, but there was nothing.
just bad bad food. i will never return.
