i found this "off the beaten path" place while in charleston for work. this is definitely a locals type of place with plenty of regulars (everyone seemed to know each other, and the wait staff greeted a surprising number of customers by name). i loved the food. i started with the crab cake "stack" app. amazing. came with two really good crab cakes with tons of crab meat, that was light and fresh. fried green tomatoes, fried onions, and pimento cheese made up the rest of the stack. seemed like an odd combo with crab cakes, but it was tasty. i got the fresh catch for the entree, which was tuna. i got the macadamia nut something or another crust, which came with a side of caramelized mango. i got asparagus for the side. everything was so fresh, and perfectly cooked. the waitress was extremely friendly and offered great service. the only thing that prevents me from giving this place a 5 rating was the atmosphere. the place really doesn't have a decor that you can define. it almost seems like a cheesy greek mural painted restaurant meets an old diner with an open kitchen meets i don't know what... there was no music playing that would really help to define it either. it was just kind of odd. however, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff and the great food made up for the lack of atmosphere. long story short - it's not somewhere you go for a romantic date. it's where you go for good food, away from the tourists. i will be back next time i'm in town.
