when you hear the name, lola’sburritojoint, well what comes to your mind?  mexican?  for sure, but not you ordinary mexican, think; sauces made with fresh ingredients, all proteins cooked to order, so… that’s not going to be quick, and it should not be a problem.  the menu offers a large assortment of items to choose from, appetizers, empanadas, hot wings, tacos, burgers and sandwiches, and the specialty burritos.  they can be regular, (dry or wet), v stuff (veterinarian), special grilled burritos, quesadillas, salads and several interesting entries.  this king st. spot has loyal followers, and you can expect to see regulars (we are) and people who just drop in cause someone told them to try it.  you can also expect this place to be packed on the weekend, and i can testify lunch is a very busy event each day.  all the staff members truly are a team, from the kitchen staff, to bar staff and the servers.  and it’s nice to see the same faces each time we go in, i like longevity in restaurant staff, makes me think management is doing something right.

empanadas to die for. we split a latin beef empanada and my friend said it was the best since his 'lieta passed and his grandma was full cuban. the filling was very tasty but the stand out was the pastry. it was tender, flaky and gbd. he got the bought the farmburritoand raved about it. i had the havana nights and it was a great twist on a cuban sandwich. pork was cooked perfect and that tang of the pickles and mustard cutting through the richness of the pork and ham made it all delicious. service was on point as well. they have a great many variations on burritos and hamburgers and i can not wait to try more items.

lola’sburritojoint was our pick for lunch today.  it’s a fantastic little place on king st. between park and herschel.  it totally fits the vibe of what’s king street these days.  this is a restaurant that has a theme and sticks it all the way through, and not in a hokey sort of way.  the menu, decor and even wait-staff interactions feel well executed and thought out.  i’d call the theme dia de muertos meets nascar…if you’ve been and have a better description, help me out and comment.  i’d say if nothing else, the execution of the theme makes it worth the visit.  however, there is plenty else to like about it. i’ve eaten here a few times before.  typically when i eat out for dinner, i’m not in a rush at all as long as food is served and we’re waited on within reason.  for lunch i prefer to move a lot more quickly and get back to the office.  so, lola’s is not a typica

glad we tried it!. me and my wife go out to eat a lot, so finding somewhere that we haven't eaten is hard to do. usually when we are in the riverside area we tend to go to my favorite italian and the sister company to lola's "carmines". but last night we wanted something new, something we have never tried. i am so glad we decided to stop in and try lola's. we read the reviews and my wife says 50/50 so i said well lets give it a try. we were greeted at door and was seated very quickly. we ordered the margaritas and chips with jalapeno cheese dip. the waitress was new and could give us no suggestion towards what to order for dinner. so, after about 10 mins we settled on the og burger and the winner winner chicken burrito. my wife had the burger and in her words " oh my gosh this is so good". i had theburritoand it tasted great, fresh and not messy. the portion sizes for both the burger and theburritowere just right. prices were a little on the high side but worth it in the end. only thing that i wish they had was more choices of hot sauces. but, in short we loved lola's and we will be back

gotta love lola's. my whole family enjoys it. we live in the neighborhood and love going here for a quick meal or for drinks, apps and burritos. 'dillas are excellent. my favoriteburritois the philly cheesesteak (i forgot the name they give it). good drinks, friendly service. i will say that when they get packed it gets pretty chaotic. they clearly use fresh ingredients in their creative recipes. thumbs up for sure.

huge burritos and fast friendly service :). i have been to lola's twice and i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. the atmosphere is pretty cool and the staff is fast and the burritos are huge! on my first visit i got the chicken mojo which was delicious, and on my second visit i got the leapin lizardburritowhich has gator tail- i was a little leery at first but it was delicious, both burritos were full of flavor and so big i needed a to-go box. the chips and salsa are not free ( which was kind of disappointing) but they are really good so worth the $3 or $4. i would definitely recommend thisburritojoint.

do it. bestburritoselection and execution i have ever seen. i've made my way down the list of burritos and have not came across one i did not like. on top of that i have just recently treated myself to a few of the burgers they now have and omg i would put their burgers up against any of the competition. i'm no food expert but i know what my belly likes. if you haven't had the chance to enjoy the likes of the all hail the queen burger, leapin lizard burritio, or the wet willy you should smack yourself. i haven't even mentioned the best part.... happy hour... seriously??!?!?!?! it doesnt get any better than half $2.99 margaritas lol. the drinks are definitely on point and even the beer selection blows my mind.

still do not like it. i typically do not return to a restaurant once i have been disappointed once however since my first and only visit to lola's was on opening weekend, i was convinced they were worth another shot. the food was just ok, but the drinks were still not up to par. we ate at the bar and there seemed to be some kind of drama going on between bartenders, servers and managment which made it uncomfortable to try to enjoy a meal. plus the bill seems unreasonably high for what we ordered. i have to wonder if we were not also overcharged. i will definitely not be giving lola's a third strike. not so great twice, and they are off the list of options forever.

expected better. i am a big fan of carmines and enjoy the new interesting king street businesses so could not wait to check out lola's. i will try it again before i decide to like or not like it because my first visit had pros and cons. the pros were quality, fresh, flavorful ingredients and friendly service. the con was the lack of quantity of ingredients that count. the margaritas are tasty but like the high priced mixed drinks lack enough of the ingredient that counts, alcohol. i ordered the chimmy steak, thinking i was getting a taco but was served the steak burrito. i chose not to correct the misunderstanding since it was busy, though i should have. like so many places the largeburritois stuffed full of fillers like rice & lettuce and barely any meat. what little steak could be found in theburritowas very tasty and tender though. theburritowas served with a small mixed bean salad that was very bland. i also tried the curry chicken empanada, which i absolutely loved. the empanada was cooked perfectly and packed full of flavorful chicken and cheese. the pico de gallo served with it was also outstanding. i would try it again and next time recommend skipping the cocktails and burritos and trying the interesting beer and taco selection.

check your bank statement!. i've dined at lola's twice, and both times, the food was tasty. however, on my second visit, the size of the serving seemed to have shrunk! i got the sweetieburritoand was satisfied but not overwhelmed with the flavor.

the wait time was way too long! it was a saturday afternoon, between lunch and dinner crowds and should not have taken 30+ minutes.

but what upsets me the most is being over-charged by $5!

i encourage everyone to keep your receipt and check it against your bank statement. my meal was $12.12; i added $3 for the tip bringing the bill to $15.12. however, when my bank statement arrived, lola's charged me a flat $20!

very inconsistent.. i've been here before...on the first visit were were two out of total of four people at the restaurant. the waitress forgot to bring one out of two requested drinks...myburritowas fairly large...disgustingly large.

during a recent visit on a saturday night, whilst the place was packed, i ordered the sameburritoand it was half the original size. we waited for 40 minutes to receive the main course and stuffed ourselves on cheap chips and salsa...

just as i finished my half sized burrito, i observed a table next to us receiving their disgustingly large burritoes.

so what gives, lola's?

just don't offend our collective intelligence with why it takes so long to serve food. this is not haute cuisine and the long wait time is not justified with the type of food you serve.

i'm very certain you don't cook beans, corn, and roast pork to order for my half-sized mojo pork burrito. i bet you are intentionally understaffed and pass it off as cook-to-order-wait-for-ever restaurant. there is no other explanation.

if the food was a notch worse, i wouldn't have gone back for the second time.

great food, def going back. 2 of my friends and myself visited lola's on a sunday on accident. we were actually looking to try the soup company next door and luckily it was closed. we started off by being greeted by our waitress who was friendly then we were quickly brought drinks. the margaritas were really good. i ordered aburritowith onions, green peppers and chicken and shrimp. the shrimp was sautéed perfectly. for an appetizer we had queso and chips it was amazing. the cesar salad one of my friends ordered we haven't stopped talking about it yet. she ordered chicken to go on top, it was sooo flavorful. the plantains were sweet. the sweet potato empanadas were sweet as well. everything was great! cnt wait to go back

need to improve consistency and cleaniless.. i've been a few times and the beer selection is great for aburritojoint. i've only had the tacos, yucca fries and beans, so i cannot comment on their other offerings.

on 3 trips, the fish tacos and the carnitas were good. above average for most taco-joints in jax. i cannot say the same for the jerk chicken or chorizo.

the black beans are good and the chips are always fresh.

if you are looking for a quick small bite and a good beer, this is a good place. the place smells and feels much more like a drinking joint than a dining joint -- so be prepared for that.

recommend:
fish tacos, beers

caution:
other tacos.

update: july 2013
can no longer recommend this place. very inconsistent and sometimes the place is not clean.
