discovered little penang while trying to find malaysian in wellington cbd. first impressions were average with fairly stale interior and seating.

the food more than made up for that though and we found ourselves in a bustling restaurant! we shared a number of dishes - curry puffs to start then vegetarian mi goreng, nasi goreng, fish fillet (otak otak) and bihun goreng. all the dishes were delicious, freshly made and presented well. all were washed down with some nicely made teh tariks!

food was pretty decent size, although meat had no flavour and could only taste egg. price is standard round $16 for a main, but pretty average food and does get quite packed early so they do to try to rush you out.

also note that food comes out one by one at different times which i found odd and annoying.
two of us got the same meal, so dont understand why they didn't come out at the same time.

this place was pumping, and i can see why....the food here is absolutely delicious. the chicken curry with a side of relish was spot on. casual dining, buzzing atmosphere, loved it

went here couples of time and the foods were never disappointing.

they are famous for the char koay teow but i went the other direction and chose claypot rice on my first visit, and hokkien char on my latest visit, with a side of lobak and the pandan cake (i forgot the name)

the pandan cake is a must try and a must have for every visit, a great dessert yet not too sweet for an appetizer.
lobak is a good appetizer if you prefer savory appetizer.
i personally prefer claypot rice than the hokkien char, but nonetheless both were filling dishes.

had the char keoy thiew and it was nice. quick service and good portion. would've loved it to be little bit more smokey though. place is always busy, except for an early lunch.

overrated and not worth the money, ordered mee siam but it turned out to be just normal fried bee hoon, and the curry was diluted with only a few pieces of chicken. the acoustics of the restaurant were also poor as the noise was deafening.

best char kway teow in wellington! went for lunch and it was packed, yet the food came out fast and piping hot. the lunch portion size was fantastic! can't wait to go again and try more on the menu.

little penang is a really authentic eatery that never fails to please. we got takeout on saturday night quite late in the evening but was no trouble. we ordered a medium mee goreng to share between two and a medium chicken curry with roti and rice. the mee goreng was nicely spiced and a massive bonus that it comes covered in deep fried vegetable pieces. very tasty and always a busy restaurant. if you dont feel like sitting in, (although i recommend as the decor is awesome including the classic painting of men circled round a table) the takeaway board is cheaper and there are also daily specials. definitely try dishes that you havent already because you wont be dissapointed!

came here after my te papa musuem trip. the place is well maintained. staff were friendly and the setup was simple and nice. theres a massive board for you to see the menu so it will save you time. you will need to order and pay 1st before finding a seat which can be annoying when its crowded.
the food was good. i would say it even taste better than anything melbourne can offer. the price is a little high but does taste good. i ordered the nasi lemak with nyonya curry. the only complaint i had was the rice. they used old rice to serve instead of fresh rice. the rice formed into solid chunks. i would suggest avoid the nasi lemak and try other dishes.
final thought: i would recommend this place but avoid the nasi lemak as its below average.

our favourite place for cheap and cheerful malaysian in the city. mee goreng is the best dish and i get it every time. no alcohol but it's still fantastic.

go for the mee goreng that comes with fried fritters on the top. request for a small sharing of chilli and have it paired! definitely taste like home away from home.

mother flippin yes! char koay teow for the win! this rice noodle dish dish just hits the spot with a decent serve of prawns and chinese sausage! if you're brave ask for it extra hot. zing!

i'd been wanting to come here for a while due to the great reviews and rating and managed to persuade my skeptical husband. the staff were very hardworking, nice and accommodating and i liked the decor though it was certainly noisy on a saturday night. unfortunately i found the food not so good. there are a lot of fried things which makes it rather greasy and the batter had a burnt taste. the mee goreng didn't taste fresh. i suppose it depends what you order though. the curry puffs were small, dry, and overpriced. the pandan cake was yummy! i don't like writing bad reviews and i'm glad others have had better experiences but i'd be reluctant to give it a second go.
