the meegorengis just about the best i have eaten in wellington. made with a lot of love which is great to see in wellington although stingy on the meat (3 prawns and that was it).

i would recommend nasigorengand mee goreng, you can choose their level of spiciness and they taste good, also they are affordable. the price range is $13-14 per meal.

we enjoyed our meals this evening. i ordered a meegorengwith a lemon ice tea. our meals were very affordable and filling. we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the medium spice was just right.

saw heaps of people in this place, so decided to give it a try. i don't know what all the fuss is about ? i got nasi lemak which was very tasteless and bland. a friend had the nasigorengwhich wasn't much better. maybe there's some awesome dishes that we don't know about and that is what everyone else was ordering.
on the plus side service is quick and efficient.
both the presentation of the dishes and the venue itself left a lot to be desired. the chopsticks and cutlery were all different brands and sizes and just sitting in a small container on the table along with two wispy little single ply napkins.
if the last people who used your table decided not to use the cutlery and sneezed of coughed on it then take a guess what else you would be eating with your meal.
there's a whole heap of food plopped into the bain maree heat baths where you enter the shop which then gets plopped onto a lump of rice and plopped onto your table.
also they sat a chicken wing on top of our meals for some unknown reason.
i know they can't do much about the location and surrounds of the venue but it seems to be in the most seedy looking street in wellington (strippers, tattoo parlor and a pole dance studio all across the street)
it's definitely the most overpriced place that i have seen of this caliber.
i wouldn't call it a restaurant, more like an eatery in a shopping centre food court.
for these reasons you would expect to pay food court prices.

we went to this place yesterday. we were excited to see that they have pisanggorengwhich is banana fritters in the menu. when the waiter brought out the meal it was black colour. i told him this is burnt i can’t eat that so he took it back. few minutes later another lady came back literally force me to take it. she told me that is normal. the chef have to cook it for a long time otherwise the dough will not be cooked. then i showed her the photo that was posted at their home page. it was golden brown just like a normal fried fritters. she told me those photos are edited. i told her then you are posting something that is not real. that is a scam. so, they have been getting away with making customers eating burnt food. i told her i’m not eating burnt food and asked to change to curry puff which is the same value. she still refused and literally told me to eat that black thing. so to give her the benefit of doubt, i tried it. as i cut into the black charcoal thing is still sticky and raw batter inside i took one bite and tasted burnt and sticky raw dough.i took it back to show her finally she decided to take it back. this whole drama went on for at least 15-20mins which means my other dishes has gone cold. what a bad experience. a word of advice don’t sell something that you can’t do well. not too sure if they deserve a rating of 1.

little penang is a great spot for some cheap and cheery malay food. the teh tarik is amazing, highly recommend getting a mug of that with your meal. the nyonya starter platter is a great way to try a few different entrees. you cant go wrong with any of the mains really. i've tried their curry and roti, the otak-otak, char kway teow and nasigorengand it's all good, so i think its safe to say they're probably all good! just look out for the spice level. i always ask for mild because i cant handle spice, but i've had friends who have ordered medium spice and its hotter than they were expecting.

*****standard has dropped. extra work for customers****normally this place is good. its cheap and nice flavors. unfortunately, like a lot of places in wellington that go well for a while, they get lazy and the standard drops.tonight i ordered (from their menu) the nasigorengwith shrimp and lemon chicken wing. they served our food and said the wing would be their in a couple of minutes. half an hour later we finished our meal and no chicken wing. just fried rice. we asked 4 times for the chicken and they said it would be there in a minute. as i was paying they still hadn't served the food i ordered.i said i would have ordered another dish. the door guy said he would take the price of the wing off only. i said that's not the point. i wasn't served the meal i ordered. he said the lunch menu didn't include the wing (it was 7pm) i showed him his menu. he said other customers didn't mind (which means they normally get away with it) boring meal. the bottom-line is they don't care about your meal. they make you the problem when they stuff up, and saying its not available other times of the day. excuses, excuses. weakthis is a drag. i use to like the place and now i wont go because i have to check that i will be served everything they have on the menu when i order.i hate it when somewhere that use to be good goes complacent, irresponsible, and rude. wish i could give it a zero

what a nice little place! always buzzing and smells amazing inside!

i ordered the meegorengwith chicken - but gave me prawns instead. and there were only 3 prawns :( . they offered an exchange to chicken but i was short on time. also found a hair inside the noodles but i didn’t tell the waitress - can’t be bothered.
teh tarik was quite bland and watery. it is a cold day so don’t think it’s because the ice melted.
these were a let down.

apart from that, the flavours of the meegorengwas good with a large portion. i enjoyed the meal over all. i’m sure these were exceptions and not the norm based on other reviews
service was really friendly too.

we went to little penang twice in one day. ordered the nasi lemak with ayam masak merah, meegorengwith prawns, roti canai with ayam pedas and char kuey teow and every dish was divine! when i’m back in wellington again, this will be my number one place to eat at again.

on a short visit to wellington and stumbled upon this lil gem. it was quite busy and we were very fortunate to get a seat as they filled up very fast.
the food was pretty good. we ordered the nasi lamak and nasi goreng. it took a while to flag down the waitresses but it was understandable as they were very busy. after ordering, it took around 15 min for the food to come out. the curry in nasi lamak was quite flavourful with a tinge of spicy. the lemon grass chicken which came with both dishes was juicy and tender. the nasigorengwas very flavourful. overall a pretty good, and very filling experience.

little penang is a really authentic eatery that never fails to please. we got takeout on saturday night quite late in the evening but was no trouble. we ordered a medium meegorengto share between two and a medium chicken curry with roti and rice. the meegorengwas nicely spiced and a massive bonus that it comes covered in deep fried vegetable pieces. very tasty and always a busy restaurant. if you dont feel like sitting in, (although i recommend as the decor is awesome including the classic painting of men circled round a table) the takeaway board is cheaper and there are also daily specials. definitely try dishes that you havent already because you wont be dissapointed!

i'd been wanting to come here for a while due to the great reviews and rating and managed to persuade my skeptical husband. the staff were very hardworking, nice and accommodating and i liked the decor though it was certainly noisy on a saturday night. unfortunately i found the food not so good. there are a lot of fried things which makes it rather greasy and the batter had a burnt taste. the meegorengdidn't taste fresh. i suppose it depends what you order though. the curry puffs were small, dry, and overpriced. the pandan cake was yummy! i don't like writing bad reviews and i'm glad others have had better experiences but i'd be reluctant to give it a second go.
