after a couple of years and several chefs later, i felt it time to update my review. regrettably, the weak service i commented on in my forest review hasn't improved. that's a shame. honestly, i cannot figure out who is spending any time managing this place--perhaps on one is. even sadder is the food; i can nonlinger refer to it as "cuisine" since whoever is in the kitchen these days is sadly under-trained. gone are the days of sandwiches on freshly made bread as we'd once experienced. our recent club sandwich was on what appeared to be a lot of store bought white, with very skimpy amounts of ham, cheese, and turkey that tasted like the oscar meyer one could find at heb. minuscule amounts of iceberg lettuce a a couple of small, unripe tomatoes rounded out this underwhelming, overpriced ($8.99) sandwich. the "fritz" were just that--a baked version of pommes frites (french fries) that were inedible--definitely on the "fritz". the others diners slogged through equally mediocre and overpriced sausages and salads. two years ago our lunch here garnered raves. this time, the disappointed silence was deafening and no one in our group that day was impolite enough to say that our $60 lunch (with no liquor) sucked. so here goes: it sucked.

offbeat chef is inventive and the food is well prepared and presented. reasonably varied menu, for boerne. lunch is the deal, although a recent visit for sunday brunch was outstanding, if a bit slow paced. as others have stated, service is sub-par...but that's standard in boerne, regrettably. not the best location; other good restaurants have floundered here. hope this one makes it!
