we decided to try this pub for food having read impressive reviews. the food was nice but to be honest i was expecting it to be better based on the reviews i'd read (perhaps my expectations were set too high). don't get me wrong the food is good but i felt it was abitoverpriced for what it was.
i had the chicken kiev with twice cooked chips and my partner had the wild boar burger. both mains were good but nothing special particularly for €17-18 per dish. i just expected something more.
the pub itself is cosy if a little dark. they do have a great selection of beers and the service was good.

dinner with some colleagues! the food was quite nice but not great.
as a starter, i tried the smoked hake scotch egg. tasty, but i was expecting it to be a little more runny on the inside.
i was a littlebitdisappointed with pork belly. tasty sauce but the pork was lacking flavor, and i was expecting a little more crackling.
great beer selection (extra 0,5 just for that)!

after our first visit to l. mulligan grocer, stoneybatter for drinks and (unintentional) dessert in january we decided we had to return for dinner.

from first glance you might think this is an ordinary irish pub but you'd be very much mistaken. they have an extensive craft beer and whiskey menu along with a decent wine list and some craft ciders thrown in. then there's the food. this place has completely reinvented itself as a gastropub. the menus are inside vintage books which i've mentioned in my previous post. i've included photos of the menu but it does change to reflect seasonal produce. as you can see they pair their starters and main courses with beer and their desserts with whiskey.

it didn't us long to choose what to have.

starters

i went with the pork and gubeen chorizo bon bons and my fiancé chose the scotch egg.

the bon bons were fab. the sauce and apple were a great balance to the kick you get from the chorizo. he loved the scotch egg and he let me try abitof the pork and breadcrumbs - it was yum!!

main courses

he chose the braised wild boar and i decided on the chicken.. all elements on both dishes were perfectly cooked.

dessert

i repeated my choice from our last visit and got the dark arts porter brownie served with honeycomb and blackcurrant sorbet. he got the special - creme brûlée with marshmallows and turkish delight. i got a french press coffee and sean got a glass of yellow spot whiskey.

drinks - i chose wine (viognier) and he had galway hooker cask ale.

the bill came in an oxford mathematical instruments tin (how many of us had one of them in school?!) and was accompanied by a little brown bag of jellies. this time there were cola bottles and jelly babies inside.

the dishes are presented so well. the staff are extremely pleasant. i just love the little touches like how the menus and bills are presented (and the jellies are a really nice touch!)

if you're looking for something different or don't want to travel all the way into the city centre for great food & beer you should definitely try here.

was abitdisappointed. i had the veggie burger and the portion was abitsmall. also felt that they are trying to hard to be "hipster". keep it more simple and it would be much better

my first visit to this pub/restaurant.  food is really good - a small menu but well priced and good wholesome food.  i had the braised boar - first time to ever taste boar and it was delicious.  others in our party had the steak - really good and the fish and chips - again very good.  the only complaint was the service was very haphazard - we ordered wine when we sat down and it wasn't served until after we had all finished our starters and then only when we reminded the waiter.  the seating is all long tables and benches - not the most comfortable.  felt the bar staff were abitdismissive when we were enquiring about different types of beers, gins etc but perhaps they are fed up explaining all, but again, i think if you work in a craft bar you should expect this and be more pleasant.  i would go back but not in any great rush.
