great sushi & a super friendly staff!. we are twice-a-week diners at kona's wonderful sushi bar. the sushi chefs (hugo, lalo, riggo, and fernando) are always working on new creations that never cease to impress. i strongly encourage you to sit at the sushi counter and watch them work their magic. i am a particular fan of the tuna tartare, the aspen roll, the blackened scallops, and the mexican roll. deliciousfood(for a non-sushi option, try their incredible crunchy grouper) and super friendly servers. a great experience every time!

first visit. i wasn't blown away but i wasn't disappointed. it was goodfoodbut not great. the pricing was appropriate for thefoodwe received. our server was very friendly and attentive. it looks like a place that would've been popular in the 90s. the interior reminds me of the golden girls set. i did enjoy all the well maintained aquariums.
it is worth a visit if you enjoy seafood. i'm not opposed to dining there again but it wouldn't be my first choice, especially for sushi.

would not recomend. waited ten minutes to be seated on a saturday evening so that was great! that's hardly a wait at all. as i waited, i watched thefoodsitting on the counter ready to be picked up by the servers. hmm... 8 minutes is a long time forfoodto be sitting out. the restaurant is segregated. the main dining area is for those over 65, the sushi bar area is for couples and the back dining area is for children and whoever else they can stick in there. that's where my wife and i were seated. we had 11 children from four seperate families within 20 feet from us. it was totally weird. i told my wife "it's like chick- fil-a with seafood" all they were lacking was a kids slide.

after realizing the atmosphere was, well, not what we were expecting, i lost my desire to order anything pricey because i just wasn't going to enjoy this experience. i ordered the blackened grouper sandwich which was fine. the bun was soggy and the size of the grouper was quite small. i ordered potato salad with it and they gave me rice instead. not sure why, maybe they were out of potato salad. my wife ordered shrimp linguini and a waitress who wasn't ours came up to us and asked if that was what we ordered. yep, that's what we ordered. she seemed confused. maybe because she was still trying to decide if the salads we ordered went to the right people after she brought them to us once, said "wait, did you order these? let's see you are table number?..." she took them away to another table and then brought them back.

i lived in florida for many years. this restaurant belongs there. half filled with old people and half parents from the suburbs with screaming kids, numbing themselves with wine. then a few dazed and confused (that was me and my wife)

i highly recomend this place if you have more than three kids, enjoy fish aquariums and are looking for some sub par overpriced seafood in a weird disney cafeteria atmosphere.

if you really want to have a good time, let your kids dress in thier pajamas and watch the turtle poop in the aquarium! it's hysterical!

a great independently owned restaurant and bar with outstandingfoodand top notch service!! a great alternative in this corporate chain restaurant laden city! my wife and i just recently moved to indianapolis, and we are thankful we have found this gem! we've become pretty regular customers over the last few months. seems like we're already on a first name basis with most of the servers and bartenders. it's nice that the staff always remembers us and treats us like part of the family. judging by all the other familiar faces of customers we see in there again and again, the folks at kona jack's have been treating people like family for a long time. kona jack's has some of the freshest seafood and best sushi i've had in the midwest! their calamari is absolutely the best i've ever had, bar none!! some of the other menu highlights for me are the walleye pike, sea bass, and their sushi bar's seared ahi roll!! they even have a fresh fish market in the restaurant! great for stopping on the way home from work to grab some of that fresh seafood to make dinner at home. their fishmongers are really knowledgeable and helpful. always offering preparation ideas and suggestions. they even offer up some of the their special breadings and sauces used in the restaurant!

it's amazing!. i have been a fan of this place for about a long as it's been open (seventeen years i think). one of the wonderful qualities about it is, that it's a one of a kind and doesn't have that fakeness and generic menu like chain restaurants. and yet after all these years, everytime i eat there, thefoodis consistently prepared with the same delicious perfection as always. i don't eat meat except for fish so i find it very exciting to have so many great choices in fish as well as in their preperations. i like to eat grouper, sea bass, tuna (both from the regular menu and from the sushi bar) as well as the mexican roll from the sushi bar, which is like a party in your mouth! i recommend kona's to everyone. i also must say it's also a comforting and friendly place in the aspect that there is so many employees that have worked there for years and years, which first implies that it's a good place to work, but also it's so nice to be welcomed when you walk in the door with everyone recognizing you and greeting you by name and so willing to give you great service. love it, love it, love it!!!

enjoy seafood, avoid sushi.. kona jack's - ah, it's like walking into a jimmy buffet song. fishing nets and fish line the walls and ceilings, fish tanks galore and a unique mix of young diners and 50+ singles and couples who you can tell frequent the place (like my parents, who know names of the bartenders and waitstaff).

i only go here with my parents. it's a bit out of my price range and out of the way, but, when they declare seafood, i'm always game.

the seafood is fresh, and the staff is honest about what's in season, what's worth trying, and what isn't. we usually sit at the bar, where a nice bunch of guys take care of us and provide a welcoming environment. they also offer outdoor dining during warmer months, lining the strip mall sidewalk with tables.

the nice thing about the seafood is that you can order yourfoodone of many ways - from diablo (spicy spicy spicy) to herb crusted, fried or pan seared (10 or so options). so if you're feeling healthy, great, and if you're feeling greasy, go for it. portions are just right, and fresh veggies always come with, and a salad. they also have a nice seafood, steak and shellfish menu.

yes, they have sushi. it's sushi made by non-asian chefs, which always makes me question what the hell is going on. sorry guys, but, it's like how an elvis impersonator isn't as good as the real elvis.

but, it's just "ok." i would advise one of the million other places for sushi, but, if you need a quick fix or an appetizer, you can live. i've had smoked salmon nigiri which was fresh and quite tasty, shrimp tempura which had two gross sauces and i've also tried their tempura with tempura sauce which tasted like alcohol, it wasn't too good. i haven't eaten other sushi menu items, but, i've seen them come out and the sizes weren't mind blowing. if you're a snob, you probably won't be impressed.

booze wise their wine list is slowly getting updated. they've had a lot of the same choices for years, and it seems the owner doesn't really want to venture out much. they do serve half bottles, and people seem to really enjoy the martinis here (i see a lot get made at the bar!). they have a few mediocre beers on tap as well.

but yes, stick to the seafood menu, enjoy the great steaks at daddy jack's, and enjoy the tacky sea-faring decor and you'll enjoy yourself.
