katzinger's delicatessen

walked about 15' south from capitol square for lunch. wasn't in the market, but retail offerings looked primo, especially the giant cheese counter. i chose the 'gene's free lunch' w/ roast beef, pastrami, swiss, slaw, & russian dressing on pumpernickel. macsaladto accompany, & a cheese blintz & kugel for dessert. sandwich, salad, & blintz all wonderful. couldn't really wrap my head @ sweet noodle kugel treat, however. highly rec if craving a nosh.

so good!. my husband and i fell in love with german village during our honeymoon, when we stopped there for a visit to the book loft and a sandwich at katzinger's. now that we've moved to columbus it's still one of our favorite places in town. the food is great and always fresh. i also enjoy tasting all the different samples as you come in the door. the one thing we have found to make the experience more enjoyable is to order the large version of a sandwich and split it with someone; it seriously cuts down on the cost. we also like the fruitsaladand the greeksaladthere and often share a side of one of those.

mmm...deli...mmmm..... oh how i miss a great deli. have the corned beef with mazzo ball soup, pickles, and red ptatoesaladw/ evoo. spicey mustard was the touch, corned beef was not dry, and the mazzo was not mealy. a must try. be prepared to wait in line.

the salads were bursting with vibrant, tempting colors and it was a hard decision to choose just one, but the red skin potatosaladdid not disappoint. it was creamy, yet light and each potato piece was cooked until it was tender but stil firm

the pickle palace ..... can anything be better than 'all you can eat' pickles? being a true lover of the infamous 1/2 sour pickle, i think nothing is better.

stopped at katzinger's on our way to indiana and decided to see how columbus builds a deli sandwich.

let me tell you i was not disappointed.

i loved the feel of the place from the moment i stepped in ... you snake your way around the perimeter of the store passing samples of delicious and unique bread and cheese. (maybe next time i'll bring a bottle of wine)

then it happens, you have to select a sandwich from the large list of creative combinations. as usual i request just the plain corned beef served warm with deli mustard on hard crusted rye. a side of creamy cole slaw and traditional potatosalad... can you say 'homerun'?

of course i had to select from the dessert offerings which included assorted brownies, cookies and cakes.
needless to say i enjoyed them all.

my advise - if you are driving to or thru columbus, stop @ katzinger's deli, you won't be sorry.

oh yeah, did i mention the pickles?

lovelovelove katzinger's. my favorite lunch spot in central ohio and the best damn sandwiches around. more than 70 different sandwiches to please people of all tastes. the redskin potatosaladis too good to be true, and anytime they have the "peanut butter crumble" dessert, order it. trust me.

katzinger's has an amazing retail selection of meats, cheeses, breads and oils. i use katzinger's to cater all of my office meetings, and everyone is much fuller and happier for it.
