karma kafe: i have noticed this small indian restaurant few times while strolling through the streets of hoboken.whenever i see the board “karma kafe”,it reminds me of the filter coffee i used to enjoy during my bangalore days. however after reading marathon reviews about this restaurant, i decided to step in today. restaurant was very small and they kept few tables outside(on street walkway) too. most of the reviews talk about theirbuffet, so i decided to try their buffet. i found variety in entrees compared to other indian buffets i had in usa. main course was ok ok kind and they kept only kheer as dessert(i expected few more options though) .service was good and the best thing is, items were hot and bearers refilled the items regularly( i couldn’t see refilling in many indian restaurants). ambiance was good. but only problem i felt was the lack of flavours(probably because we indians are so used to flavourful food back in india).so like i said most of the dishes i tasted were either bland or less spicy. so if you want to have spicy indian authentic food then ‘karma kafe’ is not a good choice. otherwise ‘karma kafe’buffetis worth trying👍🏻.

overall rating(7.5/10)

improvements:

1. space

2. spiciness

3. biriyani( its full of raisins and too sweet. make it authentic hydrabadi style)

purpose of visit - while searching on google maps for places to eat in hoboken, i and my friend stumble upon this place. being an indian abroad, there's no joy better than eating the indian food.

location- located on washington street, just bit ahead of the 5th street intersection.

restaurant details - restaurant is packed and the staff is prompt in service. the ambience is good too.

order details - i along with my friend had opted for a $10buffetlunch. it had
1) chicken poppers - big in size and tasty and was well prepared.

2) fish fry- maybe tilapia but was amazing in taste.

3) chicken malabar curry - the curry made with added grated coconuts, the taste was awesome.

4) chicken tandoori - the portion size was big enough and was tasty too with the charcoal grill taste coming.

5)chicken wings - my friend had this one and was saying it was tasty.

6) paneer saag- this is basically a palak paneer vegetable, it was tasty enough.

7) batata vada- the famous street food of mumbai made from mashed potatoes, the taste wasn't same as mumbai but they ensured their best.

8) jeera rice- the rice was fresh and had a good aroma of jeera.

9) kheer - they made this in milkmaid.. and was tasty enough.

conclusion - overall it's a good restaurant, the staff is good and helpful and also the service being prompt ensures that you feel like visiting the restaurant again and again.

went to this place for a team lunch. we had thebuffethere.the spread was quite balanced and good. they had salads, raita, kheer, batata vada, fish fry, chicken tandoori, dal, palak paneer, chicken tikka and egg plant.
the food was tasty with just the right spices. loved the batata vada, chicken tandoori and palak paneer. only complaint was that the chicken in chicken tikka was a bit undercooked.
the place was crowded which tells you that the food there is popular. but it does get cramped for space during peak hours.

karma kafe is one of the first indian restaurants to open in the mile square city of hoboken, new jersey and one of the first to bring the "all you can eat" lunchbuffetto town. karma kafe is a favorite among locals and new yorkers coming from across the hudson river via the path train. hoboken, new jersey is known for frank sinatra, the first recorded game of baseball being played, the invention of the zipper and the illustrious title of most bars per square mile over any other city in the united states of america along with so many restaurants. karma kafe is located along washington street established in 1999 and has a full service bar serving. it's a very intimate setting with brass temple bells and custom made tables, textured walls and maple hardwood floors. there is an outside dinning area for the better weather days. these dishes full of cream sauces and indian spices can be catered if need be. me and my dinning partner showed up just in time for the all you can east lunch buff
