johnnie's hideaway restaurant is tucked away in the crossroads, a shopping complex located on the edge of disney world property near downtown disney. it's a nautical-themed venue with a focus on fresh seafood and steaks. you can click on any picture to view it full-screen. you can also view an expanded photo gallery with 20 images on the orlandoinformer.com facebook page or in ultra-high resolution on flickr . johnnie's offers two areas for seating, indoor and outdoor. both areas are very welcoming. the outdoor area in particular excels at the nautical theme with boat chairs around the bar area and a water view. outdoor seating. indoor seating. the two seating areas do create confusion because-for some reason i don't quite understand-the two areas also have two separate hostess stations. it's the same restaurant, kitchen, and menu, but two hostess stations. we originally went to the one inside. but when we told them we'd like to sit outside, they directed us to the ot

bad food, rude service.. my husband and i ate there last weekend. he ordered a ground steak, and i ordered a salad and an appetizer. when our waitress learned that i was not going to order and entree, she became very sour and was sarcastic about our menu questions, even though the steak was expensive. my husband's steak came out burned on top, and covered with cheese, like he wouldn't be able to taste the burnt part! when we told our waitress about it, we saw her tell the manager, but we never got an apology and were not offered any compensation.

awful experience, do not go. we heard many great things about johnnies hideaway and being seafood and steak lover's we decided to give it a try. i cant say one good thing about our experience. first, we used valet to park our car. before we had all exited the car, the valet began driving off with my 3 year old nephew hanging half way out the car door. second, we reserved a table outside and when we presented our name to the hostess, we were handed a colored piece of paper and told to bring it outside to a different hostess. not sure what the deal was with the colored paper and why she couldn't just walk us out the door herself. next, we ordered a bottle of wine and had to ask 3 different people for it since our waitor vanished and it took over 45 minutes to get the bottle of wine. after we finally got our wine, we were short a few wine glasses, we asked our waiter , however he vanished again, so we then had to flag the hostess down to bring us wine glasses. we ordered our meal and thought maybe our waitor was new and decided to relax and enjoy the rest of the night. however when our salads came out, they forgot to bring us one, and suprise our waitor was missing, so we had to flag down a bus girl to find the other salad. then we ordered a second bottle of wine, surprise we had to ask for that 3 times before it was delivered to our table. when our main course was served, they forgot to bring out everyone's meal!! the waitor didnt even notice that we were short one entree, so we had to flag him down, and after about 15 minutes he brought out the missing entree that we were told had to be prepared in a different kitchen. at this point the whole table's food was cold and the 2 orders of seafood at the table still couldn't be eaten because their utensils had been taken away prior to receiving their meal. one of the girls ordered an oscar fillet (how can you go wrong wtih that?!!) well lets just say it was 50% fat!!!!!!!!!!! i have never seen a fillet with fat, let alone that much fat. we did not complain during the meal, however, once we were finished our meals she told the waiter, who then showed the manager outside. the manager apologized and went on to say that sometimes that happens when you order a ribeye, she said but i ordered fillet, he said "oh, well, i did see the fat chain. that sometimes just happens with steak" (what is a fat chain???). the alaskan king crab legs were over cooked and so dried out. three people ordered the porterhouse, and you guessed it more fat.... we decided to get desert because we had people visiting from out of town and wanted to enjoy the night together. desert was delicious, however, we were not given any silverware to eat it. at this point, we used whatever was left on the table because our experience seemed too bad to be true! every single person working outside knew that there were many mistakes and someone was dropping the ball. then comes the bill..... usually a restaurant would throw in desert, or wine, or do something when they know they have continued to disappoint their customers, but no one seemed to care that they had made numerous mistakes. so we decided to say something to the manager outside, and he said "sorry you caught us on a bad night." i said "this is ridiculous and poor customer service." he said "let me give you my business card and you can email me later...." he walked back over to the outside bar and sat down and continued conversation with 2 young ladies and a young man (how unprofessional!!!). so, if you would like to eat a good piece of steak and seafood i would highly not recommend going to johnnie"s hideaway. like the name of the restaurant says johnnie's should stay hidden!!!!!!!! i have to say, we are all very fair and easy going people when it comes to dining - in fact, this is probably the third time in my life that i have had a bad experience anywhere - and this is the only one that i am writing about because it was horrific and handled terribly.

again, keep johnnies hideaway hidden and off your radar screen!!

as you can see by the variety of the reviews, some think it grand while others find it leds appealing. it is way over priced, poor service and being part of a chain, lacks the culture to ever make it great place. from the moment we sat down we were "sold" on what to eat and their suggestions were an obvious attempt to get us to spans more. won't be back or recommend

had a dinner of just appetizers. lobster mac & cheese, truffled portabella fries, lobster bisque, tuna nachos, steakhouse bacon, and beef tenderloin carpaccio. everything was amazing. our waiter, david, was a delight. we'll definitely be back.

very disappointed this time !. this was our sixth visit to johnnies over a 3 year period. we were expecting top quality service and food yet again but unfortunately were very disappointed this time. this may have been due to management changes or new kitchen staff ? who knows ?
we ordered 2 adult mains which were good by all standards but we also ordered 3 children's steaks.... big mistake ! they arrived on the smallest plates ever and the steaks were the smallest we have ever seen with 4 small french fries on the side ! they looked like they had been plated by the dish washer person ! disgusting ! the price of these mouse, unattractive portions were $18.
we did complain as it defiantly was not the standard or appropriate portion size for children's meals from previous visits.
the waiter was very apologetic and removed the meals for replacement, however when they were returned with a few extra fries the adults had long finished their meals !

just fab !!!! aug 2008. we came across johnnie's by accident, but were so glad to have found it.
my husband said the steaks were the best he had tasted in a very long time and for me the lobster and crab claws was sublime !
we were treated like royalty by all staff espeacially adam the manager.we also celebrated our 10th wedding aniversary there and all the staff made it so speacial for us.
will look forward to a re-visit from the uk this december with all our family.

okay, but not sure it was worth the money.. mixed reviews on this one. the portabella fondue app was really good, but for me, that was about the only part of my meal i was impressed with. the app was fried portabella strips, served with little individual fondue pots with gorganzola with bacon and chives to dip the mushrooms in. very creative, and very delicious. for my entree, though, i had the mixed grill and i personally thought the sea bass was undercooked and the salmon, shrimp and scallops were lackluster (and i usually love scallops). server was attentive, but kind of hovered which was a bit annoying, and then when she found out what my husband did, she asked for professional advice, which i thought was a bit inappropriate. my husband had a very different opinion of his meal. he had the "king of the bone" steak - a two-inch thick strip steak which i have to admit was perfectly done, which is not easy to do with a piece of meat that thick. claims it was the 2nd best steak he's ever had, and he knows his steak. stone crabs were okay. house salad was forgettable. soft bread on the table was delicious, cracker-style bread was not. i thought the portion sizes were quite generous, unlike what some others have said. atmosphere was quite nice. didn't feel like it was in a shopping center. overall, i definitely expected more from this dining experience for the price. 3 drinks, one appetizer, and 2 entree's for $122 before tip.

terrible management and poor service. we went there the day after xmas and we arrived at 7:50. the place is beautiful and we were excited to celebrate my fiancées birthday. the experience started off kind of shaky when our server literally took four trips to take our drink and food order. overall he took thirty minutes to take the full order for only four people. i'm in the service industry so i understand sometimes things happen but when our waiter only had us as a table i was a little annoyed. anyways, moving on to the worst part. at 10:00 our food finally arrived!!! the food took two damn hours to get to us so when our taxi arrived we were out of time and not even hungry anymore. we called the manager over and he was apologetic and said he would comp our bill. i'm not out to get a free meal ever, but this was justified especially when you're dealing with a fine dining situation. my five course dinner at the broadmore hotels famous penrose room took two hours from start to finish. well then we got our bill and it was $120.00! comped my ass! he charged us for everything we had up until the meal. if the food had not taken so long we wouldn't have filled up on drinks, salad and bread! overall terrible experience and will never ever go back! go to sandlake road instead where there is quality food and service.

this place is me and my husbands favorite place. we love going out to eat and this is our favorite spot. i admit it's a bit pricey but very much worth it for special occasions. i've tried quite a few things on the menu along with my husband and there was not one thing we thought was just ok. everything was delicious!! service has been awesome each time we go. this is my #1 favorite restaurant!!! i wouldn't not try this restaurant based on the bad reviews. most of the reviews complain about prices but it's well worth the price. you shouldn't eat here if ur used to paying mcdonalds prices.

best in town. saw add for this place on side of a bus, downtown disney, what a find, suggest you beef up the advertising it will pay dividends long term.
out waiter was called dave f,what a guy could be crew member of the mth,as we ourselves are in the restaurant business we fully appreciated the service we received from him,as it was our first time he guided us through the menu,i had the petite filet with mash, both were fantastic the filet just melted in your mouth,my wife had the madagascar shrimp 3 in fact the to were mouth watering, for side we tried there soaked pickles, must try these,we had two portions.
when it came to the desert there must have been 10,dave desciribed each of them in detail we settled for the key lime pie, very sweet though try this.
i would say this place is up there with ruth chris,if not better,we are going back again before our return to the isle of wight england this wk.
will return again on our next visit and have left a card in our guest book and fully recommend this place.

excellent surprise. in august of this year i treated my parents to johnnie's hideaway with a few gift certificates i had for talk of the town restaurants. i had heard the least about johnnie's (usually overshadowed by charley's) so i decided to give them a try. i was worried at first because of the location; when i think of the crossroads, i don't immediately think fine dining. the service was great! our server was attentive without being too overbearing. as far as our dining experience, i was blown away. during the summer, they had a "wine & dine, surf & turf" special going on which was a prix fixe menu including appetizer salad, seafood, steak, and dessert options all paired with a wine for only $50 per person! my mom had the giant madagascar prawns which were just that; i've never seen shrimp so big in my life. another standout dish was the key lime pie with a graham cracker crust and meringue and key lime topping. all in all, johnnie's is definitely a hidden gem in orlando, a city full of chains.

it was just okay. expectations were high based in recommendations the service was okay and the seafood and chicken were okay. without sauces the food would have been bland. desserts looks fab though.
