delicious and remarkably fast. being late likely helped (8:30 on a friday), but our party of two was seated very quickly by a lovely hostess. the service was prompt and friendly and she was knowledgeable about the menu. she wasn't afraid to make a recommendation. cocktails were quick. we ordered--baja fish tacos for me, rotisserie chicken for him--and our food was delivered in less than 10 minutes. that was a shock. so if you're in a hurry, those are quick options with the chicken and the mashed potatoes already cooked and tacos needing quick assembly. the tacos were outstanding, particularly the sauce. the chicken plate was enormous--half a chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus--and couldn't be finished by a big eater. he reported it was very good and very moist. the mashed potatoes were some of the best i've had in arestaurant(which usually disappoint). we were out the door within 45 minutes. nice decor, especially the patio, pretty people to look at (staff and customers), friendly staff. we'll go back.

joey's in mayfield edmonton is truly a really greatrestaurantto go to for a first date. it's got a really pleasant atmosphere, even though it is (kind of but not really) a franchise; i've honestly had so many memorable experiences dining here. overall, it has a generally accepting atmosphere even if you are dressed to the nines or alternately wearing sweats. i mean, preferably you could choose to wear jeans or something as it has a nice balance between fancy and casual dress attire-but you could definitely get away with less.

generally speaking, i prefer cozy little unique family-owned restaurants that make you feel good inside about helping out a local business. with that being said-we all hit these types ofrestaurant"chains" from time to time, for a multitude of reasons. whether it's for a birthday dinner, a typical date night, or for the plain and simple fact that some people have no idea where else has good food besides the typical go-to places that everybody else has heard of.. and let's face it-might as well go someplace with generally attractive people working there-i've ended up at joey's a crapload of times.

the first joey's opened in 1992, and now there are a number of locations, with 3 currently in edmonton. i've frequented the mayfield location over the years, as well as the jasper ave spot (before it closed down in anticipation of its new location in bell tower).

while i wouldn't exactly rave over joey's, i'd have to admit all-around everything is comfortable and consistently reliable. which doesn't, of course, sound overly exciting but is nice to know you can count on feeling general satisfaction. therestaurantitself is spacious, with a generally upscale decor, but a classy laid-back atmosphere. i've always found the service to be the typical standard of most restaurants-polite and mannerly.

i have tried many dishes over the years and i find the food and drinks have all been satisfactorily palatable. i prefer the filet mignon, which is my personal favorite here-and i particularly love the fully loaded, crispy mashed potatoes. they remind me of spring rolls in appearance, and i find them an entertaining and delicious accompaniment. lately, they've featured a fair amount of asian-inspired fusion dishes which is intriguing, though i'd have to rate their "sushi" as passably mediocre at best.

overall, i'd say i enjoy all the joeys restaurants, though i'd have to say that the mayfield location is probably my favorite. the winning feature here is probably the patio, as it is technically still indoors, but has an outdoorsy feel with lots of windows. if you are in the west end and are looking for a place to eat-check it out for sure!

i feel like thisrestaurantis trying to walk the line between fine dining and a casual chain restaurant.  my friends and i had a reservation for 10 on a saturday night at 7pm.  getting there, i realized that this is a huge restaurant, and even has it's own fountain pool in the centre of therestaurantwhich is a nice touch.  the ambiance along with the dimmed lights creates a more relaxed and fine dining environment.  after being seated, we had our drinks and food orders taken.  i got the calamari to start, and had the prime sirloin.

the calamari to start was impeccable, perfectly seasoned with a spicy aioli sauce that was a little bit spicy and added to the flavour of the calamari.  after that, all the other food that my friends and i had were very average and mediocre.  i got the prime sirloin which came with a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes.  while the prime sirloin was good, it was relatively unevenly cooked throughout.  parts of it were red on the inside, and others were barely pink.  it probably ranged from medium rare to medium well, which i guess averages out to what i wanted (medium).  all the flavour seemed to be in one of the corner of the steak too - the seasoning definitely wasn't evenly spread out.  some other concerns my friends noted is that their steak and sushi only came with 5 thin strips of steak, and that at times our table seemed to be neglected.  water at times wasn't filled, and we were left waiting a long time between cleaning up dinner until paying.  that being said, when the service was there it was friendly and understanding, so that's a plus.  they also said that their kitchen was behind schedule, so maybe that's why it took them a while to do some stuff.

all in all, i wasn't ecstatic of my experience here.  i had higher expectations from others and reviews i've read, but i left the place feeling as if i had just gone to a fine diningrestaurantand paid those prices but gotten regular chainrestaurantfood that is oh so common in edmonton.  i'd not be opposed to coming back with friends, but i wouldn't recommend or suggest this place to others.

can zero service be called bad service?. the wife and i decided to go for a late evening meal last night. arrived at therestaurantaround 10:15 and were escorted into the dining lounge. at that time of night the room was quiet with less than a dozen patrons in the room. we were seated, poured a couple of glasses of water and then forgotten. totally forgotten. it's as if we were invisible. servers stood around and chatted. other staff attended to laying out cutlery. we enjoyed our specially prepared city of edmonton water for 20+ minutes and then got up and left. nobody noticed or could have cared less. i phoned the manager this evening and from the response i got, his attitude must have been infectious. he and his staff deserve one another.

my family and i went to joey last night for my 21st birthday, i had never been before but had heard some good reviews from others and decided to give it a go. overall the meal was pretty good minus the fact that the wrong food was brought out to our table on 2 occasions and our water glasses weren't filled up once. now this is the part i was really upset about, upset enough to write a review which isn't something i would normally do. so earlier that day a man i volunteer for had surprise delivered a cake he had specially made himself for me as he is a baker. as we later found out that evening when therestaurantcalled our home, this cake had somehow been forgotten about by the waitress and all others who had been notified about it and was not brought out to our table. i was exceptionally disappointed when i found out about this as i feel terrible for the man who had brought the cake there for me. he had originally thought my birthday was next week and had planned to bring the cake when i volunteered next but on thursday i had told him we were celebrating this saturday at joey so he, being an exceptionally busy man, went through all the trouble of designing me a cake and hand-delivering it only to have the staff forget about it. needless to say, i won't be going to joey again anytime soon.

wow!. late august, friday afternoon, not too many good days left this year, decided to spend one of them at joey mayfield. there are a lot of items on the menu and 'disappointment' is not one of them. tha dawg and mrs. dawg shared an appetizer (lettuce wraps)(8 out of 10), a main course (ravioli)(9.5 out of 10), and dessert (donuts)(9 out of 10 - that mascarpone!). drinks - delicious! post-meal coffee - delicious! service - outstanding! atmosphere / room - outstanding! (if there's anotherrestaurantin mayfield with a 15' by 30' infinity pool, i haven't heard about it.) keep up the good work. tha dawg gives this place - 9.5 out of 10 and a promise to return real soon.

nice private room. we went here for a work lunch for 9 people and reserved the private room. it's right behind the hostess stand. the private room was great because thisrestaurantcan get loud, which is difficult for a large group. the menu has a lot to offer so everyone was able to find something to order, and i think everyone was satisfied with their meal. i like the fish tacos, light and not greasy; and the warm crab & goat cheese dip is a delicious appetizer.

change isn't always good. we ordered what i thought was the amazing crab & artichoke dip and we got this awful new replacement that tasted as bad as it looked. what are you thinking??if you are going to take something as popular as this off the menu at least replace it with something comparable!!i had the fetucini alfredo and it came out floating in butter and was tasteless....needless to say, i didn't eat it. the wine was good and the service was good...too bad the food isn't...what happened????this used to be therestaurantof choice. we will not be going back.

is this arestaurantor something else?. my spouse and i were shopping at the mayfield common on saturday and decided to go to joey's for lunch.

i work in the hospitlality industry and i have to say that the attire of the staff at joey's seems like something you would see at a gentlemen's club. our server had to continually pull her dress down as it barely covered her private parts. she always served my spouse first ...what ever happened to ladies being served first. if she thought that because her dress was so short that my spouse would tip her more....she lost out. i picked up the tap for lunch and she certainly did not impress me.
she also duriing the taking of our order ask me if i wanted yam fries instead of the regular fries and in her very condensing tone proceed to tell me that would there would be an extra charge for that....i don't mind paying extra but do not speak to me like you think i cannot afford this. we were both dressed very casually but that does not give anyone the right to make a judgment.

the food was great and it would have been a great experience without the server.

highlights here include the salad wraps and the gin and tonics, both of which were tasty and plentiful. maybe as a prairie-dweller i should know better than to expect quality fresh seafood in this town, even when at a chain 'fusion'restaurantlike joeys, but i couldn't help but order the ahi tuna club. having done so, i can say that it could've been chicken, pork or a veggie burger on my bun and i wouldn't have known the difference. the condiments and toppings were lovely, but i totally missed the fish in this dish. ho hum.
