i ate at jestine's yesterday. i didn't like my food at all. i ordered chicken and rice soup which was so salty i couldn't eat it. i love salt but it was ever so salty i sent it back . i hate to do that but honestly why eat something u really dont' like. i also had chicken which was not nearly as good as my dad's homecooked chicken. the french fries were very salty as well. i would not eat there again. instead of the soup i ended up with collard greens.

so-so. as you might guess, i'm a fried chicken fanatic and because of that jestine's has been on my wishlist for quite a while. you can't be a fan of southern cuisine and not heard about this place - it's on almost every 10 best list i've ever seen and maybe that's why i thought it was just so-so. maybe my expectations were just too high. while the chicken was moist, the crust was almost burnt and that was the flavor that it imparted as well. the mashed potatoes were good, but consisted of half peel/half potato. wifey enjoyed her greens. the cornbread wasn't too sweet, but was dry and served cold. the pecan pie and the coca-cola cake aren't really worthy of mention. judge for yourself, but i think that a onetime giant is just resting on it's reputation.

average. we ate there in july while staying in charleston. we had been there last december and the food was good. however, in july we were very sorry we had picked this place. the food was very tasteless and boring. to make it worse we had some family meet us there for their first time and they also were not impressed. we will not be back to this restaurant!

we ordered pork chops and fried chicken. i don't know who cooked the food, but the place, other than the name, has nothing to do with jestine. the food was overcooked, under seasoned, and greasy.

great food at a great price. charleston is not cheap. it is hard to find great food at a fair price. i highly recommend this place. the usual wait is a clue. it is well worth it. the fried chicken is the best in the south.

good southern food. good reasonably priced fare. pork chops were amazing, perfectly cooked with great flavor. my wife had the meatloaf which had good texture but was a little on the bland side. sides were all excellent. highly recommend the coca-cola cake, very rich and delicious. good service, didn't wait too long at all on a friday night in august. highly recommended overall but would skip the meatloaf and go for the chicken or pork chop.

over rated tourist trap. don't waste your time waiting in the wrap around line for this "southern" cuisine. it's all fried and fat laden. if you want real southern cuisine go to poogan's porch instead for a delicious meal for the same price.

this is sunday lunch at it's finest. if you are looking for a great home cooked meal then this is where you want to go. this is definitely not your typical tourist location!

embarrassing to call this soul food. the family and i went to jestine after being told it was not good. how true!!!! this place has been highly over rated but i think it's due to its appearance on several tv shows and it now must have new owners because the original owner would be embarrassed.

i love to cook and have made much better tasting, flavorful chicken than what was delivered to me today. the plus here was it was hot.

the fried green tomatoes lacked seasoning. they were retrieved straight from the garden, sliced, dipped in cornmeal, and fried. that's about it.

the okra gumbo was just okra mixed and cooked with canned diced tomatoes. lima beans were good, not excellent.

lastly, dessert - coca cola cake was very delicious.

warning: do not waste your money on this place. trust me, your own soul food cooking is much better.

my fried chicken was over cooked and dry:(. mac and cheese curdled, collards were perfect. had the coca cola cake pure sugar, although husband devoured it.

good stuff!. it took my wife and i about 1 hour from line to finish. the food was great. cucumbers to snack on as you sit was good. i had the fried catfish with sweet red pepper relish, okra gumbo and mac n cheese. save room for the desserts!

best restaurant in town. a lunch at jestine's kitchen is always the top of my list when i visit the low country. best food, best staff and a wonderful hostess. my family and i have been guests of dana berlin since she first opened the doors. quality and taste is always consistant...can't wait for my first true taste of charleston to start the summer season!

we've had the pleasure to dine at jestine's kitchen twice. the first with my husband and my children and the second time we entertained my niece and her friends from college when they visited charleston for spring break. both times, the food has been fabulous. since we've had the chance to go with a large party, we've gotten to sample many items on the menu. the crunchy fresh pickled vegetable mix served as a free appetizer is a delightful tradition.
