jack's restaurant & bar

having heard so much about this place, we finally paid it a visit last week for dinner. we had to wait for a bit before we got a table since they run full most of the times.jack'shas a really nice outdoor seating area but since i was a little cold, we decided to sit inside. the place was very well done up and the service was prompt.

coming to the food, i settled for the iced tea to begin with. the tea was perfectly chilled but wasn't strong enough for me.

the mediterranean sampler came in next for the appetizer. the greek sauce and the jalapeno hummus were good but the tabouli didn't really meet my expectations. it lacked some salt i guess and didn't have all the traditional veggies that it's supposed to have.

we also ordered for the garlic oregano fries but they were pretty disappointing. the fries were soggy and the garlic oregano flavor wasn't strong enough.

next came in the chicken asiago for main course and it was simply brilliant. the chicken had the perfect crust and a very lively-tasting marinara sauce. it was served with buttered rigatoni pasta and seasonal vegetables on the side which were just the right accompaniment to the dish.

a major letdown was the fact they stopped serving their famous veggie burger. not only this but they also did not have a vegetarian patty that could be substituted with the current non-vegetarian ones that they have on the menu.

the overall experience was good with a few hits and misses. if i do go back, it will definitely be for the chicken asiago. ;-)

i've been a weekly regular atjack'ssince they opened 2 years ago. the owners and staff make me feel like family. i've tried mostly everything on the menu and everything is delicious. i can't decide between the pot roast, scampi, or chicken sandwich as my fav. great place for a burger too. for breakfast i always get the swedish pancakes. when i bring friends with me they always rave about the food and service. i don't make it to dessert too often, oh boy but when i do!! huge treats! the drinks from the bar are always served up quickly and strong. i love sipping a cucumber cocktail out on the patio with my pup. some nights they incorporate live music or a dj too.jack'sis a treasure in pleasant hill.

not realizing that i have been tojack'sat the walnut creek location (see my other write-up here ), my friend nia recently took us to the one in san bruno all the while raving about her favorite dish, crispy buffalo chicken salad (picture below.) we didn't mind at all because i likejack's(good steak) and g has never been to either, so it worked out really well. the restaurant is comfortable, clean and and provided good service. if you are in the area, you can check out jack's.

go to claim jumpers, not here!!. thought i would givejack'sa shot since we were in the area and wanted to try something new. the staff was very pleasant and attentive. there were a number of people in the restaurant. the atmosphere and decor was nice. it was happy hour so the prices were good (thankfully).

martinis were good but the food was very so so. we ordered the appetizer pizza that was made from i am sure frozen pizza dough that had some semi fresh toppings added to it, i would not eat it again. the salad wedge was not too bad, the coconut shrimp i could have picked up in the frozen food section at the supermarket and made at home. dessert was butterscotch crème brulee which was the best item.
not going to go back……………………….. i would liken the place to denny's and i don't do denny's!! ever!!

not fit to eat. i just leftjack'sand will not return. the service and atmosphere were not a problem. however, i ordered the pot roast and it was nothing but fat and gristle covered in gravy and ketchup. i showed the waiter the fat and gristle and his response was that the pot roast is always like that. it was quite surprising and disappointing.

worst dining experience of my life !!!. my family and i just leftjack'sand we are still in shock...the food was horrible...the service was horrible...the wait was horrible...we waited 1 hour and 45 minutes after giving our name to the hostess at 5:30 pm and being told we would have a 45 minute wait...when our food arrived, it was not edible...the chunk of avocado on my burger was as frozen as an ice cube...don't even ask about the burger meat...the coconut fried shrimp for $9.95 must have come from costco...the iceberg wedge salad looked and tasted terrible...this place is a very pathetic imitation of bj's...run, run, run away from this sad excuse of a restaurant...
