iron monkey

just slightly better than averagebarfood.. the nj monthly review makes it sound like iron monkey is in the same category as light horse. that's is simply not the case. this is at best just slightly better than averagebarfood. if however that's what you're looking for then it's great. the first floorbaris a bit scummy to say the least. second floor dinning room and a roof deckbargive you three pretty distinct settings.

i went with the family and while 3 of the dishes were good to okay my ribs however were completely inedible. the sauce had promise, but i think they fished the meat out of a dumpster behind the bjs. they did seem genuinely interested in making amends though, so i'll give them credit for that.

i'd go back for a booze up with the guys and sit for dinner, but if it's with the family we'll keep walking the extra 2 blocks to light horse or one of the other great restaurants in the paulus hook neighborhood.

nice surprise. after seeing a mixed bunch of reviews on this place i tried it myself. i found it to be very good. service was friendly and the atmosphere was very comfortable, and a little upscale without being stuffy at all. the food was good, and despite them being busy it didn't take too long. the beer list is very extensive and has some great uncommon options. we were in the dining room on the second floor, but thebaralso looks like a decent place to grab some drinks. there are a few other places in jersey city with a very similar layout, but this is the only one which i really liked.
