the ambiance atipponyari is really different from all the japanese restaurants that i've tried. first, because it is teeming with japanese people and second, because it reminded me of the movie, spirited away (check it out!).

the restaurant being filled with japanese people is probably enough proof that the food being served in this restaurant is authentic.

i have tried the kani salad, katsudon, and miso soup. these food items actually taste different from the ones i tasted before in other japanese restaurants. this is because the flavor is not too strong. these items have a more subtle flavor and taste as compared to how it was prepared in other japanese restaurants. i guess it is because these are really made for japanese people and not to suit the filipino tongue which seeks for a lot of flavor in every dish. nevertheless, i love what i have ordered and i would definitely try other items on their menu when i come back. 😊

[2018-11-20]ipponyari is the sixth restaurant of a six restaurant food crawl of tagaytay and sta. rosa. by this time, we have gone and eaten at 5 other restaurants soipponyari is a bit disadvantaged. it is normally more difficult to please people who are not hungry compared to those who are. food served – i hope serving food on succeeding food crawls/meetups be done similar to this. there is a set of food/drinks used for photos and there is a ‘sampler set’ served to each participant that includes all food (and drinks if multiple types/variants) in small size enough to have a good taste. this enables all participants to have a taste of all food/drinks served and eat it while still hot/peak of goodness/freshness

we were on the last leg of our all-day tagaytay food crawl. it was already early in the evening. and still, we were still on an eating mode. the last restaurant to visit, ipponyari.

judging from the "look and feel" of the place, it seemed that the japanese restaurant has been in business for a long way, and i was right. our host was a courteous and generous japanese national to speaks relatively good filipino who gave a brief history of his enterprise while serving us with his specialties.

from amongst the food served, the katsu curry and karaage were my favorite. that's after finishing my bowl of seafood and vegetable ramen  which genuinely hit the spot (after all that food consumed that day!).  and of course, the green tea mochi ice cream which was a welcome ending to what i describe a feast-fit-a-king.

ippon yari is a japanese restaurant right across paseo de sta rosa. this establishment has been there since 2011 and i’ve been a patron ever since.

we recommend these dishes:

seafood and veggie ramen - they use hand pulled noodles and you can definitely feel the pull of the springy noodles in every bite. the broth is light and savory. it’s delicious.

katsu curry - crispy tonkatsu on a pork curry sauce and japanese rice.

ebi tempura - their shrimps are a good size coated in a light batter and deep fried.

green tea mochi ice cream - this was suprisingly good. not so sweet.

consistent over the years, ipponyari is definitely one of our go-to whenever in the solano area or on the way back from tagaytay.

another japanese restaurant that caught my eye while browsing something good to eat in my zomato app.

after a long, fun day at enchanted kingdom with the family, we had our dinner atipponyari before going back to manila.

everything was good! except for the miso soup that they served, it wasn't hot enoygh for my liking so, i asked it to be reheated but for everything else, it was a feast!

prices are also affordable and some dishes was also good for sharing. the ambiance was homey and comfy. servers tho, was a bit spaced out and hard to catch their attention since the room was divided into two: smoking and non-smoking and unfortunately, the non-smoking area was a bit further from where the servers standby

but overall, it was a good dinner! would love to go back again if we happen to be around the area

a month seems incomplete without a trip to tagaytay. it is our little sweet haven from the chaotic manila life. after all, lazing around r’s rest house always sounds like the perfect weekend getaway plan. a few weeks back, r suggested that we check some outlets on our way back and have lunch around the area. i quickly checked looloo for suggestions andipponyari caught my attention with its high rating. plus, it is said to be the “place to be” for japanese expatriates who work around the area.

hello,ipponyari.

the place is easy to spot as it is located on the second floor of the piazza building right across the outlet compound near adidas. there were only a few diners when we got there as it was already a bit past 1 pm then.

we were quickly assisted to our table and handed menu. the place has an extensive menu ranging from sushi and sashimi, rice bowls, and tempura to sukiyaki, ramen and teppanyaki dishes. r and i opted to get salmon sashimi (php220), unadon (php520), ebitempura and salmon sushi. (sorry, i failed to take note of the prices of the last two dishes.)

we asked the server if the chef could have our salmon sushi torched so that we could enjoy salmon aburi. but when the server’s face turned blank and confused, i already knew that we won’t have salmon aburi. and true enough, upon checking with the chef, they can’t serve it. *sad*

first served were our salmon dishes and… the color looked weird. and true enough, texture was also off. it was slightly chewy and not exactly the texture you get from fresh cuts. r regretted not cancelling the salmon sushi.

unadon, which came with a bowl of miso soup, was served next and it was quite good. soft eel and delightful teriyaki sauce on top of japanese rice, what’s not to love? well, perhaps the small serving of eel for php520.

last served was ebi tempura and it was pretty good. it’s not very oily and it was served crunchy. shrimp used though was very thin and rather small.

overall, it was a so-so lunch. i was confused how it managed to get high ratings so i decided to read through some reviews. apparently, the place is known for its ramen and not the dishes we ordered. no wonder. but given that there are so many other options around the area, i don’t think i’ll visit this place anytime soon.

if you love japanese food and you happen to be in laguna, then you'll enjoy dining inipponyari.

food (1/2 stars): my husband, who loves salmon sashimi, said that the cuts were too thick and long. otherwise, they're good enough. being a lover of ebi tempura, ipponyari's is one of the good ones i've tried. our kids tried their spaghetti napoleon (we were surprised they have spaghetti), which they really enjoyed.

value for money (1/1 star): the food will cost you roughly p300/person. i can say that we received a good value for our money with their serving size.

ambience/facility (1/1 star): the restaurant is not too crowded, with tables comfortably spaced. i love that their washrooms are very clean too!

staff (1/1 star): they have really friendly staff who are more than happy to help us out with the menu. they were also very helpful with the kids, making sure that they are given proper attention so as to prevent them from acting up in the restaurant.
