coral snake margaritas!!. a friend and i wandered in after sushi at their neighbor's, pachinko parlor. we had wanted to check out iguana since our recent move to okc, and were not left disappointed. we had agreattime at the bar, the bartender was very engaging with our questions about different bottles of tequila and had a lot of information about tequila for us. we tried the coral snake margarita, and like their salsa it was incredible. habenero and apricot, it was the perfect marriage of spicy and sweet. i could have one any time. soon, i'll get to try their food, but for now i'm satisfied with the bar.

downtown? iguana's a must. i love what robert painter has done here with both the menu and the decor.

i'm especially fond of the green rice and (smiling) the coral snake salsa.

don't go expecting authentic mexicana, no, but (by the same token) don't go expecting tex-mex, variation #3,678,924. no, this is gussied up fusion stuff, with a heavy emphasis on bright, tropical flavors.

excellent bar area, btw.

my only complaint? the parking and seating areas. i'm not saying one can have too much success, but i am saying that parking here can be nightmarish, and seating (especially insofar as large parties are concerned) is often difficult. this isn't a restaurant for the agoraphobe, either -- do go expecting large crowds and closely gathered tables.

all in all, agreatchoice for the downtown diner.

went here on a whim. it was awesome.
salsa was fresh, flavorful and the queso was the best queso i've had in oklahoma. tasted nothing like the seemingly normal nacho cheese garbage. it had depth. go figure.
fajitas were amazing - steak was charred and vegetables (tri color pepper, onion) still had a bite to them. tortillas may or may not have been homemade. they were a bit disappointing and dried out extremely quickly. grilled veggie side was a nice addition to the fajitas, and the chili mac - gotta get it. it's like their queso cheese on steroids with macaroni noodles. mmm! mezcal mule was oddly refreshing and went very well with their fajitas.

prices weregreat- portions were huge. service was very friendly and attentive, though we did have to wait a bit for our checks. building is cool. place is rocking and rolling, but we were seated immediately.
must go!

after an outing with my close girl friends, i just had to take my husband!  we came on a weekday for lunch, and it was very busy!  there were tons and tons of people in suits (looks like they were lawyers from the court house) and many friends meeting for lunch.  it took about 10-15 minutes until we were seated, so if you want to stop by lunch, come here early.

the waiter who served us was very intuitive, on making sure our drinks never ran down, and extremely helpful - all while teaching another new-hire server!  as for food, we ordered their chimichanga with a side of beans, and guacamole w/ salsa and chips.  the chimichanga was easily one of the best we've tried - it was perfectly crispy on the outside (even with their special cheese sauce covering it) and was absolutely delicious.  the salsa, guacamole and chips weregreatas well!  great place for speedy service, food, and an exuberant atmosphere to chill and hang out in!

pretty good, not very big portions. had the chile rellenos which were pretty damn good. my only complaint is that the side of rice they gave us was not very much at all. the rice was extremely flavorful but there was maybe four bites of it. the grilled vegetables were bell peppers and onions, which essentially are fajita vegetables.greatexperience and would highly recommend this to others, just don't go if you haven't eaten all day because you probably won't be full after the meal.

let me preface by saying, despite the terrible service, the soul reason i'd return to this super hip spot is for their salsa.greatsalsa. incredibly fresh, chunky-tomato wonderfulness. that being said, servers, you're not that cool. i promise. tattoos or not. the servers i've had should really try to dial back the pretentiousness. i know the mexican restaurant you work as a waiter at is next door to the womb room, but you still work at a mexican restaurant nonetheless. for tips. remember? asshole-ness seems to be a server prerequisite at this place. for that reason i'll dodge this place (and their delicious salsa) for as long as i can. i'll make that sacrifice, just on principle. let me add that these bad experiences with the service was a consistent happening, finally leading me to write this review.

best salsa in town. if you are looking specifically for tex-mex, this isn't the place for you. however, if you are looking forgreatfood, i recommend this place. the salsa is to die for. i love the selection of drinks and the specials. tuesdays can be a little too much as they are so busy, but the tacos are always very good. i love trying new foods and iguana gives me that opportunity. my favorite menu item is the chile relleno. some places just do not do a good job with the breading on their rellenos, but iguana's is excellent.

iguana feels like a totally different restaurant lately. it used to be a reallygreatlocal place to get awesome food that was made with high quality ingredients. everything has changed- prices are higher, quality is way, way lower. like taco bueno low.

the most disappointing thing is that iguana was the spark that ignited midtown okc. this was the restaurant that drew a lot of people to the area and started 9th st.

i won't ever come back to iguana- the food isn't worth eating, especially at the prices they charge. if you are in the mood for mexican in midtown, go to 1492. hate to say it, but iguana just isn't the same

lots of problems here. first impression?greatatmosphere- this place is pretty neat. i want to like the food too, but too many problems. first- chips and salsa? weak. super greasy, super stale, and the salsa is tomatoes and onions...absolutely no flavor. the rest of the food was the same - not awful, but very bland and absolutely not worth the calories. it was a frustrating meal because i was expecting a classier "mexican grill" rather than a bland ok mex with more vegetables. this meal + 1 drink and tip(no appetizer or dessert) was $20 per person- you can do way better for that cash. if the price were about $5-8 lower per person, this might be a fun place to hang and eat casually. maybe it had more to do with the weak margaritas- i don't think there was tequila in mine. either way, i was not drunk enough to enjoy anything other than the art on the wall. don't bother - there's better food to be had in the area.
