ichi ni nana izakaya

we were made to sit in the basement which was suffocating. it was my birthday and i was looking forward to some nice dining, the food was average but the desert was good. i think the staff could have helped us with ordering the food but nothing worked out for us so big no no for next time.

from the food to the service to the ambiance, this restaurants rating is well deserved.
the food is flawlessly photogenic adding to the fine dining experience.
while the menu is pricey, this can be easily overlooked by the immaculate quality of the food and the drinks.

i went there end of 2019. very pricy with disappointing food. food is not special, quite average for the price. and it took a loooooong time to serve. we had to get the last 2 dishes as takeaway eventually and ate them at home later.

best way to experience this place is by ordering every entree dish and trying everything! actually can not fault this place, so delicious

we wanted a japanese experience since our trip to japan was cancelled due to covid. the food was delicious, our favourites were the chicken kaaraage and wagyu ribs (omg so yum) , sushi & gyozas were delicious . a bit pricey but totally worth it for a special night out.

had the chefs banquet here last night! the food was very tasty, i will definately be back. the sliced scotch fillet in the ginger & soy was to die for! amazing gyozas, sashimi & lobster sushi roll 😍 overall the food & atmosphere was great!

the ambient and music are awesome - like it a lot! but to be honest, the food is overpriced, for sashimi and sushi in particular. salmon and tuna are very bland. the pork belly is good.

their confit sucks puff is always my favorite. the duck is soft and the pastry is crispy.
also love their lamb. tender and juicy. the sauce is sweet with sesame.

if you’re feeling like japanese in fitzroy. this is the place to go!

cool decor and an active vibe with everyone in there.
service is served with a smile and is fast.

not somewhere to go if you like a quiet dinner as it gets loud. i noticed booths there for groups which looked good.

will be coming here again!

my aunt visited from new york, you know that city where the coolest of the cool make it first, and we catch on to food trends a decade later. so where in melbourne could i take her for dinner? it had to be healthy, it had to be fun, it had to be open late on a tuesday evening. ichi ni nana is part of a three story enterprise (village people above, and upside on the rooftop). it definitely has the cool factor – dim lighting, clean but with quirky japanese inspired décor, so much to choose from that my aunt spent almost 20 minutes picking what to order…

ordered the banquet for 4. all the food was amazing, however there was not enough of it. ordered more dishes on top of that. this was a massive let down. i’d expect that after a banquet i would be very full. sashimi was good but not mind blowing. karage chicken was yum and so were the ribs. so tender. another point of disappointment was that the food came out way too quickly. we didn’t even get a chance to savour the flavours before another dish came out. it was a lovely meal but for the price point you expect more food. we were still hungry when we left and spent nearly $450.

from booking to dessert, the whole experience was flawless. the atmosphere alone is worth the 5 stars. food was good, nothing we haven't had before. but the whole package is something worth going for. had a small group dinner there and was quite busy so bear that in mind. otherwise, very impressive overall!

sashmi platter (large), wagyu sliders, soft shell crab roll, nama kaki (oysters) and oriental sour (cocktail).

everything was simply amazing as usual. ichi ni nana has always been a welcoming treat, from the food to the drinks, highly recommended visit for diners and date nights.

there’s not much to say about the place, the service was great, the food was amazing, just don’t forget to put lemons on the oysters and come prepared, book in advance!

we have wanted to go to ichi ni nana izakaya for a little while now, so when the weather cleared up we decided to head here to try out a well received and recommended sushi restaurant.

as we entered, we were greeted by enthusiastic japanese chefs which brought some warmth- and whilst some staff didn't reciprocate this sentiment as much, we were still served promptly and respectfully throughout our meal. today we ordered the pork belly, soft shell crab and salmon rolls (chef prepared). the pork belly was a little dry, however had an amazing sauce that we would drink in a cup if we could haha. the soft shell crab is definitely higher quality than most; good texture and taste, whilst the salmon rolls were gorgeous. very high grade salmon with a wonderful sauce, tasting very delicious. one of the better sushi rolls we have had.

an overall good restaurant experience hosting some very good quality sushi. whilst price is a little on the pointy end, you pay for the experience and quality of sushi.

ordered salmon and chicken donburis for dinner. dry, lacking in flavour and hardly anything in it besides rice. so disappointing for $20-$22. won’t be back.
