amazing dining experience. came here for the first time a few months ago and have returned three times since.
the volcanorollis a must try! as is the beef tataki, scallops and the mini wagyu burgers. the dessert is also worth trying.
the service has also always been 10/10. always greeted and served with professionalism and a smile.
can't wait for my next visit to ichi ni nana!

ichi ni has to be one of my favorite japanese restaurants. have been here 5 times and was lucky enough to be seated in the ski lift my last visit which was very unique.

the restaurant itself is quite dark inside which i don't mind with plenty of seating available in tables and booths. the service from the staff here is great, their always happy to recommend dishes and are very helpful with the menu.

having tried a variety of dishes here, the must haves for me is the karaage chicken, lamb cutlets, soba noodle salad, pork gyoza, dragonrolland finish the dinner with the delicious banoffee as dessert.

highly recommend ichi ni whether it's a catch up with friends, with your partner or a large group of friends, it caters for all.

hope to see you guys again soon!

totally overrated. i would way prefer a cheap asian place from the cbd than this crap.

paid $120 for hardly any food, the food was mainly rice and mayonnaise. we got two chicken yakitori and they were tiny pieces of dry chicken for $16. i asked for a replacement and they came back the same.

augergine was covered in this sweet syrup. the sushi was mainly rice covered in mayonnaise. i would have killed for a sushi hubrollover that.

i honestly left wishing i had had toast for dinner. now i'm $120 down and sat eating ben & jerry's to fill the gap

you know that moment when you light up because you've just tasted something amazing? it happened here when we met the lamb saikyo - miso glazed cutlets, grilled to perfection, paired with mouth watering sesame dressing. the smoky flavours of tender meat were magnified by the nutty flavours of the dressing - so good!

the volcanorollwas not spicy at all but delicious nonetheless. the inside out lobster and salmon ichi nirollwas fresh and well balanced. the beef tataki had an appetising dressing, offering a slight kick.

i really like the decor towards the back of the restaurant, with the glass ceiling and greenery giving a welcoming feeling. for a more romantic setting, the dimmer surroundings at the front will work well. efficient and polite service throughout the visit. really like this place and hope to return soon.

overall: 4/5

walked into a magical place that does not resemble the streets of fitzroy nor the lanes in tokyo. great mysterious vibes, vibrant and nature-themed decor with intimate seating.

staff are super friendly, especially the waiter who apparently is the son of the restaurant’s owner.

very pricey, but food was overall worth it. drinks, however is unreasonably expensive, but i guess it’s the restaurant’s way of profit since you can’t enter here without tempting yourself for a drink!

sushi sashimi platter (5/5): looks expensive, but we were half full by the end of it and already so satisfied excluding the sides that we ordered. sashimi melted right in the mouth, tasted so light and fresh. the sushi maki rolls were on another level. the ratio of rice to filling, the balance of sauces that elevate the flavour of the sushi bite, the presentation and the quality of the meat/seafood is enough for me to say it was worth it, almost on par as those luxury japanese dining experience. that triangle shaped cheesy sushirollwould be my favourite. highly recommend!

lobster taco (5/5): flavour bomb! such a refreshing and explosive bite. lobster was cooked perfectly, the creamy sauce was satanically good which paired well with the crispy nori taco shell.

okonomiyaki - japanese pancake (4.5/5): presentation was complete opposite to the platter, but flavour was amazing. that drizzle of thickened sweet sauce with the creamy mayo, layered on the crispy vegetable pancake was finger-licking good. i even dipped the chicken karaage and gyozas in that sauce too.

chicken karaage (4/5): karaage in general is whatever to me. it was seasoned very well though. good side to enjoy. coating to chicken meat ratio was perfect.

pork gyoza (3.5/5): oozing with hot minced fatty tender pork and liquid inside, still maintaining a nice slight crisp, but a bit too salty.

will definitely return for a nice fancy yet casual night out.

absolutely loved the presentation of their dishes. the sashimi was very fresh and dragonrollwas flavourful. really great restaurant for group gatherings or events! the only downside is that it is a little bit on the pricier side. but the aesthetics and vibe makes up for it!

insta-friendly hot spot. everything is nicely plated and presented.our favourite was the beautiful sushi and sashimi platter. different varieties of freshly sliced fish. definitely recommend this mouth watering platter. the dragonrollhad seared tuna and topped with lots of tobiko and spicy mayo sauce. both the wagyu rib and steak were soft and tender.matcha cheesecake + azuki ice-cream was delicious! presentation was so nice. rich red bean flavoured ice cream and the bitterness from the matcha topped with the sweet azuki paste.

i came here on a thursday night and wasn’t expecting it to be so busy! the vibe was really great, especially sitting in the covered courtyard section which was just stunning.

there is a really wide variety of both food and drink options to choose from, all of which are presented beautifully. taste wise, there were definitely some stand out dishes for me, which i’ve highlighted with a * below.

we had the:
- renkon chips // lotus root chips with shichimi salt, served with sweet potato and yuzu pepper dip
- * ebi mayo // battered prawns tossed in spicy japanese mayo - this was simple but one of my favourites. the prawns were fresh and crunchy, and the dressing was creamy with a slight wasabi kick.
- maguro tataki // thinly sliced seared tuna with soy, yuzu and shallot dressing on shredded daikon
- * wagyu rib // boneless slow braised, charcoal grilled wagyu ribs with sautéed seasonal vegetables and yakiniku sauce - hands down my favourite dish of the night! the meat was so incredibly fall-apart tender!
- wagyu shabu shaburoll// inside outrollfilled with prawn, asparagus, and avocado topped with thinly sliced wagyu beef and coated with sesame ponzu
- volcanoroll// inside outrollfilled with asparagus, salmon and prawn, coated in flamed spicy scallop sauce
- green tea & biscuit ichi licks
- * banoffee // banana and caramel pie on an oreo base topped with mascarpone cream - i love banana desserts and this was no exception. perfect end to the meal.

whilst the service was friendly, it was a bit off at times. twice there were dishes brought to our table that we didn’t order, and when we enquired about what the special flavour for the ichi licks was, the server didn’t know. for the price we were paying for our dinner, i would expect service to be at a slightly higher level that that. but otherwise it was a very enjoyable meal, although i have definitely had better japanese meals in melbourne for a lot cheaper.

also, as a side note, for the love of god get public transport here if you have a choice! i spent a good half an hour or more pulling my hair out trying to find parking on a thursday night. i don’t think i have ever seen so many permit zones in my entire life. thank goodness the restaurant was very understanding and still held my booking even though i was half an hour late (i did call to let them know my situation).

the tempurarolland the lamb miso is the mvp for the night!!! i love it so much!! the chilli from the edamame is nice as well. the price is worth for every single cent 😂😂 the sashimi is so fresh too. eventhough its not cheap, but it’s satisfying! good ambiance as well. love this place ❤️

first time visit with my boyfriend, the atmosphere is good, very relaxed! we ordered salmon salad and tuna tataki, the entree is okay, nothing special. but we really like the beef curry, they have fair portion of beef. the highlight is the sushi roll, we order wagyurolland volcano roll! impressed by the volcano roll, it tastes amazing!

3.5. came for a weekend lunch and was seated in the lovely outdoors area of the restaurant. had the karaage tori, soft shell crab tempura and wagyu shabu shaburollwhich were ok. the volcanorolland small sashimi were delicious and the highlights of the meal. would come back to try more of the sushi and sashimi.

jan 2020: came back again to try the dragon roll, pork belly and sushi sashimi platter. again, very good food although on the expensive side. the matcha cheesecake and chocolate harumaki desserts were ok.
