huckleberry café

this place is definitly popular, whilst waiting in line it's hard not to be tempted by their baked goods. we tried the mixed berry crumble tart which was very good. the burrito was a filling and tasty option, whilst the veggie chopped salad was a lighter option though i did find it to be slightly bland. don't go past the homemade house chocolate, delicious. i'd probably be back for more of theirpastriesand a coffee

saw this restaurant on food network and was excited to try it... long line moved fast, ordered sandwich offered with arugula, pesto, roasted pepper and goat cheese.. not bad. better if offered with chicken. service was mediocre at best. had poor selection of pasties unlike what was shown on episode.. expensive lunch at $30.75 includingpastriesfor later.. gave cashier $41.00 and a math lesson and still handed me back the $1 ...and then $9 more.pastrieswere nothing to write home about... owners have something good here but i would bet profit is down. won't be back

came for lunch because phil rosenthal of "i'm having what phil's having" said to go there and give it a try. very glad i did. one of the finest places in la. thepastriesare exceptional . . . i know. i tried just about everything in the pastry portion of the counter.

re-visit. was hoping to catch breakfast but were too late so had lunch instead. i don't really like any of the lunch plates we tried, but like many la locations, it's fun being here. i did get severalpastriesto go, which i've had before , and they are delicious. sorry i didn't get to try breakfast.

great joint. busy place due to delicious food. i had the oatmeal with almond milk and fruit and it was delicious. my friend left with a box full ofpastriesthat looked divine. too bad i am gluten sensitive. my loss! worth every penny.

overall, huckleberry isn't that great. but that is made up for by he amazing pastries. no matter what time of day you go, there is a line stretching towards the back door. it is loud and busteling, far from a relaxed setting. the food food is mediocre, trying too hard to be gourmet and thereb compromising taste. not to mention the pretty penny you have to pay. but, it's redeeming features nearly make up for all of it's flaws. thepastriesare amazing. i mean amazing. wow. and the fresh squeezed orange juice ad lattes are the beat i've ever had. all in all it's worth a stop, although it is imperfect.

very delicious - everything yummy. we went there today for valentine's day breakfast. my brother and his wife both had the "green eggs and ham", my husband the "duck hash and eggs" and i had the "breakfast sandwich". all got raving reviews as we passed our plates around for all to taste. we also gotpastrieswhich were fresh and very tasty.
cons: i really wish that there was more room and that you could get a table easier than how they have it set up. you have to order your food, pay and then wait for a table to clear. it's not that convenient to wait around and having to dodge the service staff or others coming through the door.
2nd con: it's really loud in there.
despite these cons: we'll still be returning as it was truly very delicious and high quality.

wonderful food, service needs work. lovely contemporary restaurant with a great feel. exactly what i would open if i could. the baked goods and overall quality is unsurpassed which is why there is an almost constant line. however even though the quality is quite high and the line is long to order (and that's fine) the process after you've pay needs work. i've ordered hot food and justpastriesand even justpastriesto go. as soon as you order, before you even pay someone facilitates your order and puts it on a plate or box if it's a pastry. but then it takes forever to get it in your hands even if its take out. really the qualty and choices make my eyes roll back into their sockets they're so wonderful but they need to improve on their system. those who say the service is a bit bitchy aren't wrong either. when i pointed out that mypastrieswere right there and had been for quite awhile she wasn't so nice about retriving them for me. i still love huckleberry but would like improved service.

you wait in line for 5-10 minutes along the pastry case to place your order, staring at all the pastries. how can you not buy pastries? staring at these: and these: i came in for brunch. i came out stuffed, carrying leftovers and a box ofpastriesto go.
