staff influences enjoyment. houston's continues to provide great food. iloveit for that reason. however--and this is a big however, the wait staff leaves something to be desired. now, this would not have been true several years ago. service, at houston's, was second to none. currently, the service seems forced. the servers seem new, raw and unprofessional. that, when at the same time, houston's prices (and food) suggest an establishment that should be capable of first class service.


this concern, by the way, has been brought to the attention of management. , , ,and yes, the situation improved--temporarily. (emphasis)

i, for one, will be delighted when management decides to go back to its previous policies. good service makes for good business.

ilovethe food here, so i can let the 1 star count as that, but the staff is terrible. vista murphy is the real star of the show when it comes to not following management and customer service social norms. they kick people out for the most mundane reasons (and laugh while they do it in our case), refuse reasonable food alteration requests, and just generally make the experience hostile.

i can't prove that vista murphy is racist, but all evidence leads me to that conclusion. we've made a formal complaint about her to hillstone restaurant group.

if you experience something like that at this location i strongly suggest you make a complaint. i miss eating there as it was a frequent spot for my family, and ilovethe food. i just can't support this bad behavior with my money.

my mom and i have been to houston's several times and we alwaysloveit. we made a return trip last wednesday for lunch. we each ordered drinks, the grilled brussel sprouts, and a jumbo(!) shrimp cocktail as appetizers and they were excellent. we each had the red snapper lunch special as a main course, which came with a side of succotash. my mom's fish was a little undercooked and she kindly asked for it to be brought back to the kitchen for a few more minutes of cooking and our waiter, jeremy, could not have been more accommodating. it went back immediately and in a minute or so we were visited by leo, the manager, who asked my mother if she would like to have another appetizer or a salad while she waited for her fish to return, but she did not feel it was necessary. the fish came back cooked to perfection. both meals were delicious and the fish was covered with a lemon butter sauce that was to die for. we ordered a slice key lime pie to split (which was yummy) and coffee. we were visited by leo at the end of the meal and he apologised again for the initially undercooked fish and said that he, "took care of it" in the bill. when we looked, we saw that they gave us both fish lunches for free. i expected maybe a free dessert at best, but not two free entrees! honestly, we were not even mad about the situation with the fish, especially since they took care of the problem so quickly. amazing customer service and delicious food. thank you, jeremy and leo, for a wonderful dining experience!

houston's deserves every bit of this 5.0 rating. after all the years and all the price increases, they continue to remain fresh, relevant and deliver value and earn the high price to dine there.
thankfully they will now take a reservation, so long as you plan ahead and your party is not larger than 4. they are usually spot on with their wait time estimate and i appreciate that.
i don't believe i've ever had a bad meal here. i have to start with the house salad and prefer my combination dressing on the side. if you are splurging, go ahead and order an appetizer of the cheese toast because that one piece you get with the salad will leave you wanting more and it's simply not enough to share with whomever will be eyeing your plate with envy begging for a share.
the baby back ribs always are fabulous with a loaded baked potato and definitely enough for another meal in a doggie bag.
the combination salad with checking tenders makes a great lighter meal. i did notlovethe asian chicken salad and found it to be too spicy, which is a rare problem for me.
last night i tried the special which was redfish topped with fried rock shrimp and a white wine cream sauce that was delicious.
the burger is always great and so overloaded with cheddar cheese which makes it very inviting. my husband misses the canadian bacon which they've decided to replace with 2 strips of bacon, which doesn't fit the bun as well and makes it harder to eat.
the atmosphere is 100% cozy and we've been lucky to have whitney as our server on our last 3 visits, but honestly the service is impeccable regardless of whose table you get.

i have loved this restaurant since i was a child. it has been and always will be my favorite. i have so many memories here. my fiancé and i eat here for birthdays, special occasions, and certain holidays. we have always gotten great service and the food is outstanding. we're a chef, baker, pastry chef and decorator. so we know andlovefood. you have to try the spinach and artichoke dip with those perfect tortilla chips and the hawaiian rib-eye is out of this world. the best.

one of the last houston's to offer the flying chicken platter. ilovehouston's ambience, the fragrance from the grill, and their incredible food. hillstone across town is great, but there are differences that make this houston's special.

i am always on the search for a good veggie burger.  i especiallylovewhen a restaurant makes their own meatless patties from scratch in house and use unique ingredients- and on a recent trip to houston’s i struck gold. houston’s is an upscale dining experience, though not quite “fine dining” by most standards.  the menu consists of entrees like prime rib , filet mignon and grilled salmon , however, we were there for one thing and one thing only- t he house made veggie burger .  (ok- and the kale salad - so two things.)  i visited with my mother, who told me houston’s has one of the best veggie burgers ever.  always made fresh in house, their patty is made of brown rice, black beans and oat bran.  do not mistake this for an ordinary black bean burger, this was far too tasty and delicious to be categorized as just a black bean burger. the burger is thick and sloppy- perfect.  topped with a soy glaze, melted pepper-jack cheese and garnished with lettuce, tomato,onion

best french dip i've had in years. taylor at the bar really takes care of her customers.

probably the most consistent restaurant in nola. everything on the menu is solid & the service is fantastic. as for apps try: spinach dip, smoked salmon or fried oysters. all very tasty. the soup changes daily but tuesday nights tortilla soup & saturdays chili are the best. the french dip sandwich and hickory burger are awesome. the grilled salmon, prime rib, ribs & crab cakes are all winners for entrees. i can't say enough @ this place. justloveit!

ilovehouston's so much! they have the best food in the world! don't tell my mom. their hamburgers are amazing.
their french dip is the best i have ever had.
my husband and i bought a house down the street from houston's just so we could ride out bikes there.
the atmosphere is pleasant. everyone is friendly. anyone who complains about anything at houston's can gladly go somewhere else. i don't want to dine near anyone who doesn't appreciate such a wonderful place.

i'm not a big chain person, but ilovethis place. food is good, staff is friendly, drinks are strong, and the atmosphere is awesome! the jazz band was great and played loudly enough to be enjoyed but not so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation.

love it! always consistently good. we eat at houston's for a "more-upscale" meal and special occasions. i especiallylovethe seared tuna salad with mangos and avacado. their mexico city style soup is to die for; i'm not sure what day it's available, i think it's either sunday or monday. i have a whole system for eating their sirloin burger and if you go on saturday you can get it with chili!. try the coleslaw!! yes you must try the coleslaw. order it "in addition to" or "instead of" any of their other sides. it is so good. it will turn you off of all other coleslaws. the chocolate sundae is unbelievable. the chocolate "gravy" comes in a gravy boat and you pour it over a great big scoop of whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. unfortunately they quit including the chocolate covered cornflakes. texturally it made it perfect.

great food, trendy spot, a bit pricey!. ilovethis place! their drinks are fantastic and their spinach dip is to die for! their food is excellent and well worth the price. i have gone their on my lunch break and can get in and out within the hour with no problems. their service is fantastic. this is a must try!
