i arrived at 5:30pm on a monday night. greeted immediately at the door, but being that i was alone, opted to sit at the bar rail. again, greeted immediately by the bartender who provided me with a beer sample of one of the many local options. i moved on and had a local amber beer which was more to my liking. i sincerely appreciated that their beer selection was not overwhelmingly ipa centric like so many other "gastropubs". that being said, even though i liked the beer, it was not great. the glass was room temperature and the beer was not cold. if you are going to have "gastropub" in your name, you should do a better job on the beer side. other than that, the bottled beer selection looked great!
when my food arrived, things became significantly better instantly. i had the mahi-mahi. which interestingly wasn'tgreatas an entree, the sides were fantastic. risotto and seasoned vegetables were fantastic. do not get me wrong, the mahi-mahi was good, but paled in comparison to the simple but very flavorful side dishes.
in the end, houdini's is a winner and i highly recommend.
