i arrived at 5:30pm on a monday night. greeted immediately at the door, but being that i was alone, opted to sit at the bar rail. again, greeted immediately by the bartender who provided me with abeersample of one of the many local options. i moved on and had a local amberbeerwhich was more to my liking. i sincerely appreciated that theirbeerselection was not overwhelmingly ipa centric like so many other "gastropubs". that being said, even though i liked the beer, it was not great. the glass was room temperature and thebeerwas not cold. if you are going to have "gastropub" in your name, you should do a better job on thebeerside. other than that, the bottledbeerselection looked great!
when my food arrived, things became significantly better instantly. i had the mahi-mahi. which interestingly wasn't great as an entree, the sides were fantastic. risotto and seasoned vegetables were fantastic. do not get me wrong, the mahi-mahi was good, but paled in comparison to the simple but very flavorful side dishes.
in the end, houdini's is a winner and i highly recommend.
