houdini's escape gastropub

very good food. we went for friday night dinner. the service was adequate, but not great. our server seemed to forget we were there and the hostess was terrible. there was also a lot of socializing between the staff directly next to our table, which was uncomfortable. no one came by to refill our drinks or to ask about our food.

we both ordered the stuffed chicken, which was absolutely delicious. the mashed potatoes were okay, but the veggies were seasoned to perfection. the wait for the food was longer than expected, but it was obvious that the food was made to order, so the wait was worth it. i took a tiramisu cheesecake to go, which was also very good.

my only other comment is that it is very loud. we ate in the dining room and the sound was deafening. unfortunately, a lot of that sound was coming from the socializing staff and a table close to us with young screaming children. the dining area (not the bar) is quite small and it was a relief to finally make it back outside and give our ears a break from the constant loud noise.

overall, i would recommend it, but know what to expect.

i walked into this place and the food aroma almost put me into a food coma. after deliberating over te menu for 15 min i ordered the special and it put me into a food coma not to mention the 150 different beers to chose from. this place has it all. well done houdini

super delicious food, but small menu when i went for brunch. if you have a very picky eater your group they may not find something they like, but everything i ate was amazing. great brunch cocktails as well!

inside was really loud! food was really good! we did the farmers bruschetta as an app. the gastro burger and fries was really good and so was the wisconsin panini with whipped potatoes. i did get the house aoli on the side! the wine is $9+ for a glass... way too pricy!

i arrived at 5:30pm on a monday night. greeted immediately at the door, but being that i was alone, opted to sit at the bar rail. again, greeted immediately by the bartender who provided me with a beer sample of one of the many local options. i moved on and had a local amber beer which was more to my liking. i sincerely appreciated that their beer selection was not overwhelmingly ipa centric like so many other "gastropubs". that being said, even though i liked the beer, it was not great. the glass was room temperature and the beer was not cold. if you are going to have "gastropub" in your name, you should do a better job on the beer side. other than that, the bottled beer selection looked great!
when my food arrived, things became significantly better instantly. i had the mahi-mahi. which interestingly wasn't great as an entree, the sides were fantastic. risotto and seasoned vegetables were fantastic. do not get me wrong, the mahi-mahi was good, but paled in comparison to the simple but very flavorful side dishes.
in the end, houdini's is a winner and i highly recommend.

great food great staff. visiting appleton for a girls weekend and had lunch at houndi's. every meal was delicious and the staff was so friendly. first time i have ever written a review. fabulous. would highly recommend.

food is outstanding. this place has a tiny kitchen which can be seen from the bar. menu is very varied, ingredients local and the presentation good. order a selection of starters, we have done this numerous times, never had one that disappointed.
really is a gastropub in the true sense of the word. most pubs are for drinking not eating in, this is the exception that proves the rule.
only 1 mile from downtown, well worth the trip

love this spot. this place is great, i wish i would have known about it earlier!! awesome beer, and even better food.

this is a phenomenal new pub in appleton. like stone cellar but better. in every way.

overall, round two was much better than round one. the total for the panini with tip was right around $10. go check it out and let me know how your experience was.
