hotel kalyana bhavan biriyani

in a nutshell:
a no-frills restaurant serving just three dishes; the special chicken 65 biriyani lets you try two of them.

the whole story: 
this restaurant is near the egmore eye hospital and just next to the mdmk office 'thayagam'. the interiors are basic, with about 15 tables that can seat about 60 people. the whole hall was filled with an arresting aroma of biriyani! the menu has just a couple of items - mutton biriyani, chicken biriyani, and chicken 65.

i ordered the special chicken 65 biriyani (₹145), which had chicken 65 pieces hidden away at the bottom of the long-grained biriyani heap. it was mildly spiced and very tasty. the brinjal gravy was a bit more pulpy than i would have liked, but still enhanced each morsel of the biriyani. the chicken 65 was so juicy it actually squirted when i tried to tear into it! they served pineapple kesari for dessert, which was a nice surprise. excellent value for money!

a bit more variety on the menu would have been welcome.

a new trending biriyani centre around chennai... crowd here speaks abt its taste and quality. even govt officials and minister prefer kalyana biriyani for thier meetings it seems..

after reading all the reviews in zomato... i decided to try the biryani at hotel kalyana bhavan... but the taste of the biryani was not great, just ordinary. i would not rate it as high as the people have rated in zomato.

after resisting the desire to try this place on multiple occasions, finally landed here (alone) on a day where i was experiencing major downside moodswing.

i should confess, the biryani did light me up!

what i ate: chicken biryani and a plate of chicken 65.

quantity: biryani- sufficient; chicken 65- good

the biryani was delicious and served with a single large piece of chicken. the chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. the brinjal side (i dont usually eat this) was good too.

as regards the chicken 65, its definitely among the best i've had. however, considering the oil factor i would not recommend it to the health conscious lot.

sweet/dessert served with the biryani was blah, but who cares!

must try place for biryani lovers in chennai.

this place was highly recommended for its excellent biryani, and i went there with a friend who happens to be a fellow foodie. the ambience is not great, and you have to buy tokens at the counter before being seated and served.

the biryani however did not live up to its reputation, and left us wondering what all the hype was about. i may eat here again if i was in the vicinity, but there are many other options in the area, and this would be my final choice.

a very decent place to have good biryani. the price is good as per chennai standards, the taste is good and the meat in the biryani is good! the chicken 65 tastes great and it's just wonderful to see a sweet dish served along the biryani to complete a good meal on offer....did i mention the good service ? :)

my stomach was full and i left the place happy!! i will surely come back when i want a biryani!

biriyani here is awesome and my favorite place for biriyani.... the hotel s interiors are not that good ... but one can come with grt expectations about biriyani and get them fulfilled here... trust me u won't be disappointed... but definitely not a cool place to hang out

i miss biriyani and want to have the taste of it, this is the place. it is a small restaurant, not the fancy-fancy one that people want to hang-around, but you want best biriyani and in the price,which you can't image anywhere else in chennai - especially in a decent, good and quality place, then this is where you must go. i never miss eating biriyani here atleast once in a month and more-over the price is less and quality is the same.

chicken-65 biriyani is really a good one to buy, as you get the taste of biriyani also the chicken-65 along with the biriyani combo is great. the brinjal side-dish is definitely the tasty one. the pineapple pudding that you get as sweet along with your biriyani once is a while is definitely good and tasty. the quantity is really filling and when you get the bill, you will definitely have a big smile. though i can't make it to the place often, we often have parcel's and when we feel lazy to cook biriyani and want some good comfort-food (biriyani), this is surely the place we think at first. and for a biriyani-maniac like me, it is filling, comforting and makes my heart & tummy happy. make sure you go on-time and soon on sunday's so the biriyani's are not over, the crowd is crazy.

variety: limited, its exclusively for biriyani (khuska, chicken, mutton and chicken-65). nothing else. but best in whatever they serve.

one of the better tasting biriyanis in town. the brinjal sidedish to go with it was absolutely the best i have tasted so far. it can be difficult to get a set sometimes and not a big fan of the token system. but worth a visit.

after a very rough day out near egmore, asked a friend for a good biriyani shop and he referred this place. we went there around 2.30 pm to find the place jam packed; there was a long queue for parcel and surprisingly we had to buy a token beforehand to eat biriyani!!! they didn’t had a swiping machine so had to search for cash and it wasn’t a line so had to attract the cashier attention again by shouting the order for few mins, (it was damn crowded in there too)… since we went in a group the guys had already secured a spot but the table wasn’t cleared yet. the waiter collected the token and brought the biriyani after 5/10 mins…

place was clean despite the crowd and the service was courteous but the place was noisy because of the crowd so don’t expect a great ambience, you can visit it only for the taste of the biriyani if you are in or around egmore …
