what a fabulous new restaurant we just found in pass christian. hook's chef/owner serves up some simply delicious seafood! we tried the seafood gumbo and the seafood pasta with shrimp, crab, mushrooms, tomato, and green onions sauted in a light seafood broth and served over angel hair pasta. we also tried the fresh snapper which was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. if you are looking for high end seafood cuisine at a reasonable price, you must give hook a try. we will be back soon!

just gets better and better!!. every visit to hook is a real treat! this is one restaurant that has thoroughly shaken off opening night jitters and has settled into serving some of the best and freshest food on the coast. the fish is always superb and the pasta light and flavorful. there's not a bad dish in the place!
a great and much needed addition to pass christian and to coast dining.

time heals all wounds. this week i had my second and third meals at hook, after the first and fairly disasterous dinner the 2nd week they opened. every establishment deserves a second chance, and i'm happy to say hook is on the way up. my two lunches there this week were both very very good...one a chili rubbed burger, nicely seasoned and well presented, and the second a very tasty club sandwich.
the service has also improved markedly, being both very friendly and efficient.
keep up the good work, hook?

one or two hits and a ballbag full of misses!. gosh, what a disappointment on my first visit to hook!! the restaurant got the decor and feel very right....casual and relaxed without being too chummy, and the building is a real asset to the street. but in the food department, the chef and manager are either completely disinterested in quality or clueless in the operation of a good eating establishment.
having been forewarned by another patron, i nevertheless ordered the pork brisket. i can't remember when i have had a tougher cut of pork or one that had so little flavor and seasoning. even salt and pepper could not raise that piglet from the grave!
our waitress was very nice , but obviously had been given no training in proper serving of patrons. dishes remained uncollected on the table, a glass of wine sitting on the bar for 15 minutes was never delivered, no recommendations were made....and the list goes on.
every establishment deserves a second chance, and i will try one more time. but i fear unless massive change is in the wind, hook will disappear as quickly as "the one that got away".

pleasant experience. stopped for lunch, on an early saturday afternoon. just a few diners. we had the officers club sandwich and the bbq shrimp poboy - both outstanding. the club had a genrous amount of tasty turkey and the bacon was cooked perfectly - crispy, but not crunchy. the cheddar cheese was not overpowering and nicely complemented the other parts. the shrimp poboy had a light dressing of bbq, that complimented and did not overpower the delicateness of the shrimp. the poboy was accompanied by a rather modest portion of undistinguished shoestring fries. the decor is nice, the atmosphere was comfortable and the background music was at an enjoyable level.
the service was prompt, but inaccurate and passive. i ordered the crunchy slaw as a side, but got the fruitcup. the server while not unfriendly was passive and did not show initiative in keeping our drinks renewed. however, those were minor flaws and we look forward to returning for dinner.

drinks - rum punch had a "whang" soured taste. margarita was very good.
bread- looked like a light fluffy yeast roll loaf but was a "packy" heavy loaf.
appetizer- oyster rockefeller - very good. not what expected. basically fried oysters with a cream/spinach sauce. very good.
main course - stuffed shrimp. ok but not ecstatic. shrimp with a crab dressing on top. breaded chicken with penne pasta - wife said it was good. blackened rib eye was the bomb. cooked perfectly.
dessert - key lime pie was absolutely horrible.
overall, 3 of 5 stars. will try somewhere else before returning!

pass christian's benchmark. we have had dinner two nights in a row while on vacation here. the steaks and pork chops were outstanding. the ribeye had that crispy/crunchy outer shell that contrasted with the tender beef and the mushroom gravy/roux type sauce. reminded me of the old don's seafood steak étouffée ribeye a to die for experience.

the seafood gumbo is like my mother-in-law made - light roux, tomatoey base with crunchy okra and lots of shrimp ; the flavors go zing and pow in the mouth.

we had the stuffed shrimp tonight - unexpected to be layered up on the creamy risotto but the crabmeat stuffing, buttery sauce and the shrimp made a feast .

the staff and wait staff were outstandingly convivial and friendly. my father in law is moving a little slow these days so corie hudson and his team arranged for an early dinner so we wouldn't have to traverse a big crowd.

we are coming back soon and will plan on eating there. i'll also pass the new treat of pass christian on to my foodie friends.

the food was way overpriced! 2 entrees and a piece of "cheesecake" for $50? very small portions and the food was bland. to top it off i had to hunt the waitress down to come and run our checks. i might try again for lunch but won't step foot in there again for dinner.

a new gem to the coast .... i have read the reviews and found most of these people are looking for the same fried seafood that is available on every comer down here. i and my wife love to try all the new resturants and old. i don't care about cost it's more about quality and this place hits it out of the park... if i wanted something fried i would make it at home or get it from some of the other cheaper establishments nearby but i haven't enjoyed any of them yet.... i would reccomend this to anyone who has the need for great food, great atmosphere, and a great staff .... i live on the coast and this will be a regular stop for me . i also put it in the top 5 of the coast. a must try

perfect for a sophisticated, relaxed night out. i love the atmosphere at this restaurant! the drinks are great the they have a decent wine list... the apptizers (oysters rockefeller is so good!) are awesome. daily specials for both dinner and lunch! this place is much better than the poorly ran bistro down the road and way more classy than shaggy's. while i have to say that i do wish they had more of a selection of seafood, they have only been established for a over a week. running a restaurant is trial and error and it takes a few weeks to perfect a menu and work out kinks. i give it an 8 out of 10 right now, but can't wait to try it again in a month or so to see what new specials they have.

great food and atmosphere!!!!. took my husband; who by the way is very particular; and met another couple.....we had the stuffed shrimp and the trout with crawfish and shrimp cream.....omg!! the food was great....i would have licked the plate if it was acceptable to do....the appetizers were excellant...oysters, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp cocktail...delice. the key lime pie for dessert was wonderful...my husband had the eclair and he would not share....that speaks volumes. we had a great bottle of wine and the service staff was very efficient. go visit, beautiful place and friendly folks... we live in gulfport and definitly will be back.
