better than in-n-out? no.. me: the service was so bad.
you: how bad was it?
me: they asked us if we were ready to order before they gave us the menus, they got our orders wrong, they didn't refill our drinks, forgot our condiments, and the fries were cold. it was a good burger, but not a great one.
you like the surfer hippiness of ob? go to newbreak or tower two. i can't understand why thisplaceis so popular.

we tried the original burger with bacon and some onion rings. the onion rings were average. the burger was decent though and very cheap. however, it's nowhere near the best burgers i've had. a decentplacenonetheless. the rating seems exaggerated though.

the food was amazing. i had read that the portions were huge, so we got mini cheeseburgers, a half order of frings and chocolate milkshakes - everything was outstanding and the milkshakes were the biggest and best we've ever had. the waiters were fun and happily helped us pack up our leftovers and put our remaining milkshakes in to-go cups. hodad's is a small, funplacewith interesting license plates all over the walls. this was a delightful experience and is highly recommended. we went about 6:00 on a tuesday evening and managed to beat the long lines.

went about 2 on a thursday, short line but we were seated in about 10 minutes. food came out super fast. the onion rings are the best, the rest i give a big b. loud but aplaceto try.

long line to get a table, but you can also get it to go and bypass the line. close to the beach so get it to go and then find aplaceto watch the waves and the sunset.

big tasty burger. theplacewas busy with locals which is a good sign. part of it is probably location but our burgers were good. i agree they get a bit carried away with the toppings but the patty was tasty and there was just the right amount of sauce to keep it tasty and moist. it is a characterplacewith good burgers. the fries i really didnt like.

a must to go. mouth watering burgers, scrummy onion rings. beer in a jug wine too!!! awesome atmosphere. hard rock and loud. aall types of people eat here you'll fit right in, funplaceeven with younger kids (they have high chairs!)

coolestplacein town.. the lines can be long. getting your mouth around the burger is difficult too.

hodad milkshake brings all the boys (and girls) to the yard. i love their milkshakes and rings. i don't eat beef so i can't comment on their burgers but their chicken sandwich is rather tasty and a bit messy. it's not an everyday kind ofplacebut something you need to go to at least once on a nice sunny day.

simple & yummy!. if you're looking for a great burger than this is a greatplaceto go! the restaurant itself is pretty small inside but the service was good and the food didn't take too terribly long to come out given the fact that theplacewas insanely busy. expect a wait but it's worth it! milkshakes are great and the fries and onion rings basket can definitely be shared! very cool atmosphere. try to sit inside the sawed in half vw bus. =)

bacon and cheese, baby.... if you like bacon cheeseburgers, hodad's is theplaceto have one. right down by the water in ocean beach, thisplaceis one of the burger meccas. the bacon is literally piled on the burger... it almost looks like another patty. plus, i think they boil the bacon before grilling it, so all the fat gets rendered down. it is truly amazing.

hamburger basket. at first glance for the tourist, it was a little shady, from the bar stools facing the outside front and to the inside music blaring, makes thisplacewhat it is. a greatplaceto sit and eat a meal. better priced than most of the other places we ate at during our 7 days in san diego. i'm from a small town in utah, please don't hold that against me, so it was a new experience for me and my family.
not sure of the name of the burger but it was great. and it was huge. as a well rounded food enthusiast, i found hodads to be a really good bang for the buck. after a short wait for a table for 6, we all enjoyed our meals 4 were burgers 2 kid meal things. so as far as rating, 5*****, price was very good, great atmosphere, and i'll definatly be back. keep up the great routine, thanks for the great service and friendly people who work there.

the real deal!. this is the best burger in the world. all of the people writting that they don't like thisplaceprobably waited in line too long. that's the only bad thing about this place...the line. with that being said, the bacon cheese burger, frings, shakes and ballast point beer are some of the best menu items in all of socal. get there early to avoid the line.
