not good at all. while working in huntsville today, i saw the good reviews and decided to try this place out. while the service was good, the food was disgusting. i love german food and actually lived in germany a few years while growing up, but the food here was just not good. even the water tasted off. the atmosphere is outdated and just looks dirty. i really hope i don't get sick because the food quality was literally that bad. on top of all of that, mymealcost $17. you couldn't pay me $17 to eat there again.

update: very disappointed.. what happened?!?!? update. update 1-19 -15 : in being fair, i wanted to update this post. i was contacted by the owner, sabine, she was very pleasant and apologetic for our experience. we discussed some of the difficulties she, as a small business owner are experiencing. she told me she and her husband read the feedback and make an honest effort to right bad experiences and as a gesture, sabine refunded our entire bill. they have just opened a second restaurant and based on our conversation and her genuineness of her response, we are definitely going to give it a try! thank you sabine for taking the time to discuss our experience and making it right.

it had been about a year since we had eaten here and our experience was disappointing. previous experiences were always positive. the only "complaint" was the small dining room. this visit, we sat in the new expanded dining room, we spent $100 for three of us and themealwas just disappointing. i had the veal cordon bleu which was tough, tasteless and about the size of a boneless chicken breast. the red cabbage was served in small plastic cups, something i wouldn't expect to find on a $18 plate. the pan fried potatoes (fried at some point) tasted warmed over and soggy. on the upside, the draft beer was cold and tasty, the best part of themealalong with the noodles and gravy (at least they were served in a ceramic dessert cup). overall, the food was overpriced and mediocre at best. service was fair. i found the schnitzel ranch was much better value. it will take much convincing before we go back.

authentic and filling; 3.5 out of 5. i was pleasantly surprised by this little german jewel. i was promptly seated to a comfortable and semi-private table, but was met by a less than cordial waiter. the gentleman didn't seem too interested in serving me (or anyone else) and more interested in arguing over who had which table with another server. once i ordered things quickly improved, the waiter insisted on bring me fresh brocthen as they came out of the oven and ensured i was never wanting for anything while waiting. when mymealfinally came he apologized for the "small portions", which were easily large enough to feed a football team, it took that sitting and 2 future reheatings to eat what i was given. though large, the flavor of everything wasn't the best i've had, but it was still very good. of the two german places i tried in town this was the lesser of the two but still in the running for top 10 (for it's price/setting/etc.). i'd recommend a visit if you're in town and in the mood for some well priced german cuisine.

a little too expensive for my tastes. it's very swanky. and pricey.

i ordered the schnitzel and what i got was a pork sausage with a scoop of sauerkraut for $12 .... for that much money i could make the samemealat home......for 4 people!

and the beer i got...well let's just say i could have bought a six pack of beer for that much.

i'm not saying it's a bad restaurant, i mean, you can read the rest of the reviews. but the prices just left a 'sauer' taste in my mouth.

ausgezeichnet!. the best german food in the area (possibly in the state)! have eaten there several times, most recently last night, and as always, a great meal! had the special; a sampler combination of bratwurst, chicken wienerschnitzel and a jaegerschnitzel, with bratkartofflen (fried potatoes) and red cabbage. chose the goulashsuppe as my appetizer; meaty, hot, deep flavor and just enough spice. themealcome quickly, fresh and hot from the kitchen. the special is so large that the jaegerschnitzel is served on its own plate! as in every visit, it took me back to the gasthouses of germany with all the memories of almost eight years there. have been to the other german restaurants in town, but hildegard's is primo! (by the way, there was so much food that i took almost a completemealhome after eating half of my dinner!)
