great looking restaurant, faux painted walls and lots of flowers. very pleasant. service was prompt and curtious. the food was tasty, traditional german with lots of beer selection.  the serving sizes were smaller than i remember but satisfactory.  i will return and bring my friends.

if you order the schnitzel make sure you are hungry because it covers the whole plate. the cucumber salad tasted just like it does in germany!

the service may be a little slow at sometimes, but it is an overall amazing restaurant. the dish i get every time is their schnitzel and their side dishes are amazing and i don’t know which to recommend.

about a year ago, new owners took over, and the improvements are very noticeable.  the food and service are top notch.  i would highly recommend hildegard's german cuisine to anyone looking for an authentic german meal.

not good at all. while working in huntsville today, i saw the good reviews and decided to try this place out. while the service was good, the food was disgusting. i love german food and actually lived in germany a few years while growing up, but the food here was just not good. even the water tasted off. the atmosphere is outdated and just looks dirty. i really hope i don't get sick because the food quality was literally that bad. on top of all of that, my meal cost $17. you couldn't pay me $17 to eat there again.

update: very disappointed.. what happened?!?!? update. update 1-19 -15 : in being fair, i wanted to update this post. i was contacted by the owner, sabine, she was very pleasant and apologetic for our experience. we discussed some of the difficulties she, as a small business owner are experiencing. she told me she and her husband read the feedback and make an honest effort to right bad experiences and as a gesture, sabine refunded our entire bill. they have just opened a second restaurant and based on our conversation and her genuineness of her response, we are definitely going to give it a try! thank you sabine for taking the time to discuss our experience and making it right.

it had been about a year since we had eaten here and our experience was disappointing. previous experiences were always positive. the only "complaint" was the small dining room. this visit, we sat in the new expanded dining room, we spent $100 for three of us and the meal was just disappointing. i had the veal cordon bleu which was tough, tasteless and about the size of a boneless chicken breast. the red cabbage was served in small plastic cups, something i wouldn't expect to find on a $18 plate. the pan fried potatoes (fried at some point) tasted warmed over and soggy. on the upside, the draft beer was cold and tasty, the best part of the meal along with the noodles and gravy (at least they were served in a ceramic dessert cup). overall, the food was overpriced and mediocre at best. service was fair. i found the schnitzel ranch was much better value. it will take much convincing before we go back.

too pricey. my husband and i spent $60.00 at hildegards last night and it was not worth it, not even close. i had veal that in some places could not be cut with knife, also tasteless. my fried potatoes were served cold. my sister had the exact same experience a couple of weeks ago, but we were already committed to go there and i thought it would not happen again. this was the first time for my sister and i to go to this restaurant and it will be the last time for sure! i will say their desserts are good and service was fair.

wow!! absolutely great german food & atmosphere!!. i visited hildegards today for lunch and am happy to report that they still are the absolute best german restaurant in huntsville!! schnitzel was excellently prepared, a large portion (lunch), with a large portion of fried potatoes and plenty of bread. of course, now i can hardly breathe, i'm so full! shameful really. but.....these people know how to prepare german food the german way! in fact, i visited ol heidelberg the other day and believe me, there is absolutely no comparison. hildegards puts them to shame. if i had to say anything other than great about hildegards.......they need a larger portion of the red cabbage (plastic container very small)....
but that aside....its the go to place for german food.

great food and ambience. ate at the restaurant 1st time today. wow! best german cuisine i have had in huntsville or at redstone arsenal, bar none. the schnitzel was absolutely wonderful and was so large it came in two pieces to fit the plate. the german slaw was delicious and the bread was fantastic. i will definitely visit often as i really love jagerschnitzel! i'm already looking forward to my next visit......

authentic and filling; 3.5 out of 5. i was pleasantly surprised by this little german jewel. i was promptly seated to a comfortable and semi-private table, but was met by a less than cordial waiter. the gentleman didn't seem too interested in serving me (or anyone else) and more interested in arguing over who had which table with another server. once i ordered things quickly improved, the waiter insisted on bring me fresh brocthen as they came out of the oven and ensured i was never wanting for anything while waiting. when my meal finally came he apologized for the "small portions", which were easily large enough to feed a football team, it took that sitting and 2 future reheatings to eat what i was given. though large, the flavor of everything wasn't the best i've had, but it was still very good. of the two german places i tried in town this was the lesser of the two but still in the running for top 10 (for it's price/setting/etc.). i'd recommend a visit if you're in town and in the mood for some well priced german cuisine.

a little too expensive for my tastes. it's very swanky. and pricey.

i ordered the schnitzel and what i got was a pork sausage with a scoop of sauerkraut for $12 .... for that much money i could make the same meal at home......for 4 people!

and the beer i got...well let's just say i could have bought a six pack of beer for that much.

i'm not saying it's a bad restaurant, i mean, you can read the rest of the reviews. but the prices just left a 'sauer' taste in my mouth.

seems better every time. my wife and i stopped in saturday evening. we had a friendly reception even though the place was packed and people waiting on tables. i had a beer (marzan) that was unbelievable. we ordered and could not believe how tasty the cucumber salads were. the dinners arrived and could not have been better in my opinion. i always the food here. tonight the service, drinks and food together seemed the best ever. can it be better next time? will have to find out.

absolutely authentic and delicious. i've been to three other local german restaurants, and this is the only one that tasted like my childhood in germany. large portions, attentive service, and fantastic blueberry cheesecake.
