the bombpoboy (dish review). the bomb --- guy's signature special is a jaw dropping creation titled "the bomb". it is just that and so much more; a roll filled with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried shrimp, fresh shrimp, and alligator sausage. every ingredient works well together, particularly the gooey cheese and delicious gator. vegetables add the slight fresh flavor otherwise missing in the foot of cheese and bread. though the shrimp is underwhelming (as mentioned in the overall review), it barely detracts from the quality of this creation. i have dreams about this sandwich.

guy's (po-boys/cajun). right off the bat i'm just going to say it: this is a hard review to write. guy's, arguably the best po-boy stop in the city that gave birth to po-boys, has infinite upsides and one major detractor. for starters, the menu is great; options abound, including gator, shrimp, beef, and sausage. though the restaurant accepts cash only, the prices are low enough to make paying with cash reasonable. the location itself is downright charming, a lovable cross between a hole in the wall exterior and an sf-style trendy interior. parking isn't fun, but the smile that greets you when you walk in the door eradicates any hard feelings. positives extend to the food; fresh meats, perfect fries, and amazing bread grace every order. unfortunately, in the middle of all the excellence, a sore thumb - nasty shrimp - sticks out. the harsh, pungent flavor of iodine overwhelms part of the sandwich. when picked out, thepoboy is amazing, but when left in, it is inedible. that said, guy's still receives high marks for doing absolutely everything else right. next time (and i truly hope there will be a next time) just make sure the seafood is of a quality you want to serve to customers.

there are tons of spots around the city that serve up a great fried shrimppoboy, but guy’s is consistently delicious, and very affordably priced for the quality ingredients used.

great hole in the wall forpoboys. this place has a real funky feel - from the sign outside to the tables and chairs inside. cash only, u order @ the counter, give them your name and stand around and wait. typically, it takes about 20 minutes to get the food. no oysterspoboys but the rest is as good aspoboys come. the fried shrimps are perfectly seasoned, sweet and crunchy. order them 'dressed' - mayo, lettuce, tomatoes. perfect, airy loaf just makes the combo perfect. an odd option is them grilled pork. thin pork chop, lightly seasoned and flash grilled. same 'dressed' and you would go insane when u bite into that piece of heaven! wow !!!!

guy's really does make a phenomenal shrimppoboy. you couldn't feed an army with it like the one above, but it can make one lucky person very very happy.

one of my favorite roast beefpoboys in town. very messy with lots of flavor. one sandwich split between two people is just right.
