the bomb po boy (dish review). the bomb ---guy'ssignature special is a jaw dropping creation titled "the bomb". it is just that and so much more; a roll filled with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried shrimp, fresh shrimp, and alligator sausage. every ingredient works well together, particularly the gooey cheese and delicious gator. vegetables add the slight fresh flavor otherwise missing in the foot of cheese and bread. though the shrimp is underwhelming (as mentioned in the overall review), it barely detracts from the quality of this creation. i have dreams about this sandwich.

guy's (po-boys/cajun). right off the bat i'm just going to say it: this is a hard review to write. guy's, arguably the best po-boy stop in the city that gave birth to po-boys, has infinite upsides and one major detractor. for starters, the menu is great; options abound, including gator, shrimp, beef, and sausage. though the restaurant accepts cash only, the prices are low enough to make paying with cash reasonable. the location itself is downright charming, a lovable cross between a hole in the wall exterior and an sf-style trendy interior. parking isn't fun, but the smile that greets you when you walk in the door eradicates any hard feelings. positives extend to the food; fresh meats, perfect fries, and amazing bread grace every order. unfortunately, in the middle of all the excellence, a sore thumb - nasty shrimp - sticks out. the harsh, pungent flavor of iodine overwhelms part of the sandwich. when picked out, the po boy is amazing, but when left in, it is inedible. that said, guy'sstill receives high marks for doing absolutely everything else right. next time (and i truly hope there will be a next time) just make sure the seafood is of a quality you want to serve to customers.

greatguy'spo-boys and service!. i emailed this into smiley anders, the advocate: today at 10:33 am smiley, yesterday when i was in n'awlins, i got to check out a poboy shop that jamie, a colleague, had told me about:guy'spoboys ( http://menuorleans.com/guys-po-boy) -on magazine between bellecastle and valmont - close to my old high school (de la salle). while i was unable to get my beloved fried oyster poboy there, i decided to try one of their special's for the day: alligator poboy, which was only $ 9.95 for large (foot long)! when i went to pay by credit, i was told that they only take cash there. since i only had two $ 5's and a little change, i told the check out guy that i'd downsize to the 1/2 foot for about $ 7.50, at which he took a $ 1 dollar bill out of the tip jar and said, "no problem, us 'guys's' got you covered!" he even gave me the change, which i, of course, put into the tip jar! what a delight it was later to chomp into that fully dressed alligator sausage poboy at an audubon park shelter adjacent to the lagoon nearby - right off of st. charles avenue and in view of my old alma mater, loyola university, and getting to enjoy the view and sounds of some streetcars that strolled by! i'm definitedly gonna send a belated real tip to that guy atguy'sand want to spread the word out to others about another great "naturally n'alins" place, as the late and beloved frank davis always noted; may he rest in peace - i'm sure god has him in charge of communication, cooking, fishing, etc! keith john paul horcasitas, lcsw, mha

unsatisfied. i've been toguy'sseveral times, but this time was really unsatisfying. i got the friday lunch special to go, the fried fish and shrimp plate. the fish and shrimp were okay. box jambalaya would have been better. the potato salad was not good, it tasted like mush with some celery. i've eaten their hot and smoked sausage and french fry po-boys, which are all amazing, but this fried seafood plate was a let down. maybe it's better if you eat it there?
