hot damn!. grinders is the best, the service sucks, it looks filthy, it's loud and sometimes smells like beer but i wouldn't have it any other way.

thefoodis fantastic at a good price. i enjoy the staff and the patrons. the music is old and too loud but no tvs! (add five points!)

if it's your first visit do not go on "first friday" or go very early.

great pizza, beer. i had read about this place in local media, and had fairly high expectations going in. kansas city is a bit short on beer bars, and i thought grinder's could be one. the beer list was nice, certainly better than most places you go, though nothing way out there. i would call this a bar with a nice beer list, rather than a true beer bar. service was ok, took quite awhile for me to be served at the bar for lunch, and there were 4 servers on, and maybe 8 customers in the place. i actually had to ask for help. the music was up way too loud, and not to sound like an old timer, but i hate having to shout my order across the bar when the place is 95% empty. thefoodhad been reviewed elsewhere as extraordinary, and i found it only a bit above average. i had the philly cheesesteak and it was tasty, but soggy. people say this is the best in town, and i certainly have not been here long enough to say, but i would guess there is at least one better in town.

the highlight of the place is the decor. truly original.

pretty neat place however i thought thefoodwas very average? i have only tried it once and will give it another shot based on how popular it is? i hope to find out it's not all hype?

tracy. tracy took such good care of us last night. i really needed a place to chill with my husband. we had great beer,foodand great service from tracy. like to go to a place where people remember your name, what you like to eat and drink? go to grinders and ask for tracy! she is the bomb!

captain of everything. i think that grinders makes me love the life i live. i work all day and am ready to relax and have a good time with goodfoodand friends! well, how nice is it to show up to a place where they know who you are, know what you like and make you feel at home! megan is the best and super hot and should be the face of grinders! she makes sure our drinks are always full! tracy is super hot too and is always so shiny! she always knows what drinks we want and makes awesome shots! thaddeus, makes the most amazing cheeseburger and is super cool! i wish i could hire him as my personal chef...what i really wanted to say is....his cheeseburgers make you want to piss yourself and i want to take him home to be my cabana boy! when i win the lottery megan, tracy and thaddeus will come live with us!

this place gets a 5 for the atmosphere. a 1.5 for the decor. this place has always been crowded and unique, i can see why because thefoodis very rare to find prepared like this. i really enjoyed this place because it is cool 😎 i will recommend to everybody who is ever in this area. dont be scared to try something new even if it means that you are in an unfamiliar territory.

good stuff. atmosphere is fun and full of the soul of crossroads. goodfoodand the bar is cool. i bought a bottle of death nectar and the gal asked if i was serious or playing a joke on someone. funny stuff. it would probably be illegal to put this beyond hot liquid death nectar on someone's meal without them knowing. going to shows at the crossroads is always worth a trip.

thefoodis fantastic with an emphasis on pub fare. seating can be a challenge. this is not the plaza, so a little kindness and courtesy will go a long way. the pizza by the slice will meet the need for hot cheesy goodness. the volume of hummus is almost enough to share. side note: they sell their own varietals of hot sauce. it was a bit challenging to get samples, but they do make good gifts or souvenirs of kansas city.

it sucks when you look forward to some good pizza and it ends up being crappy. i hope this gets strech's attention !!!. i have been to your crossroads grinders at least 60 times, and it's always been great. today, 3-16-15, not so much.

i arrived around 3:50 pm, and sat in a booth across from the pizza ovens and was greeted by a guy who took my order for a beer and a pizza, and immediately asked me to close out my tab because he was leaving. i assume because he wanted a tip. i found this to be annoying and he was kind of a douche bag when i seemed taken aback.

while i waited for my pizza a really nice gal, that i've seen there often when i visit asked me if i wanted and got me a second pint. after a while i saw and heard the cook yell over to a guy who seemed lost to check the pizza in the oven. and he said is it crispy around the edges, the guy said yes, and the cook said take it out. i paid attention because i believed it might be mine. the guy behind the counter fumbled taking it out, and it sat there on the counter for around 10 minutes, i know, because i still thought it might be mine. the cook was busy talking with another guy by the front door, and never did check the pizza. again after about 10 minutes or so, i guess my new waiter asked about the pizza, so the two figured they should do something with it. my waiter then carried it to the back of the store before bringing it back to me.

i have had and or took a pizza home with me on nearly every visit before and they have always been great. as a matter of fact i have made it a habit that when ever i'm in the crossroads district to stop and eat or at least take a pizza home. this pizza sucked, it was still kinda warm, but soggy, very little sauce and was not what i'm used too. i was very disappointed in both the service and the food. no body ever asked me how things were, like they normally do. i don't want anything but to let you know of my disappointment so as the problems can be fixed. i'm not sure i will be in a hurry to return. it also occurs to me that the folks in the booth next to me were not real happy with theirfoodeither.

there's enough to make a veggie meal!. grinders has a lot of selections on their menu, which is great if you're a vegetarian. you can make a meal out of the crazy bread, s pretzel, and a salad. it's not vegan-friendly, but is anything ever?

thefoodis amazing. i especially love the hummus and the pretzels and i get them both every visit. the pizza is good too, and it's a lot of fun to watch the cooks make it behind the bar.

the beer selection is extensive. the prices are a little more than farther downtown, but not overwhelmingly so. as well, they have specials and such that make a drink easy on the wallet.

one of the best aspects of grinders it the decor. it's very, very busy so don't visit if too much visual stimulation ruins your night. otherwise, it's a trip to see hundreds of signatures on the walls and artwork everywhere.

the service is always great. even when the servers are busy they check up on you periodically. i've never had to wait too long at grinders, which is nice when i'm hungry.

ultimately, grinders is one of my favorite diners in kansas city. i love thefoodand the little flaws (busy, loud, etc.) aren't that big of a deal. thefoodmore than makes up for them.

it ok.foodwas o kay eating was good because i came before a lot of people started crowding just after happy hour. love the taco rolls. i should get two orders next time. taco rolls are a thursday special. i had came to see if leadbelly was still hanging around there. i have got the philly cheese-steak a couple of times. i don't understand that art but if someone explained it to me i may appreciate it better. i liked the men working there most every one had a tattoo! folks were ok that night and the few times i have been there. i have not been within the last 9 months. hope it is cool next time i go. i do expect to go i kinda liked it.

if you ain't an artsy hipster don't plan on getting decent service. thefoodisn't anything to write home about.

featured onfoodnetwork's "diners, drive-ins and dives," grinders in crossroads district is known for it's large outdoor patio space, great sandwiches and eclectic atmosphere. the aforementioned items drew me in for quick lunch on a friday afternoon last week.  unfortunately, i was in for a looooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnggg ride. after finding a table outside, i was hard pressed to find something i didn't want to eat on the menu. it all looked amazing. hot wings, chili cheese tater tot pizza, philly cheese steak sandwiches - a girl could fall in love! however, the love started to die as i waited and waited and waited for my order to be taken, a drink, a scrap offoodto be thrown my way... anything .  after an hour, my lunch was finally brought out.  i couldn't go to a place called grinders and not order a grinder. needless to say, it was delicious.  melty mozzarella cheese, red sauce and big ol' italian meatballs make up this sandwich. i dare you to take this thing head on - no side b

um, no brainier. just go! order an amazing pizza - anyone!! staff is awesome.foodis sooo good!

abstain for now. i am sitting at the breakfast table trying to decide whether to vote "like it" or "don't like it" after our first visit to grinders last night. i'm so conflicted about the experience that i've decided not to vote....i'll just list my pros and cons. 1. it is barfoodbut its pretty good bar food. my rueben and my wife's meatball grinder were both great. our dinner partners said they have never had a bad meal there. 2. the paper plates provided to share our fried mushroom appetizer folded under the weight of a light portion of the mushrooms. i think an upgrade in paper goods would improve everyones dining experience. 3. the service was prompt and friendly, although a little uneven. 4. i didn't find the decor "funky" as other reviews indicate. it was more like a collection of garage sale leftovers that are typically hauled off to goodwill. 5. finally my folding chair needs to be replaced with one that doesn't feel like it is ready to collapse.

i'm going to give grinders another try before i cast a vote. maybe if we sit in a booth, double up on the paper plates and study the decor with a more serious eye i'll be able to cast a "likes it" vote. i'd really like to.

i don't get the hype. grinders as the #1 cheap eat location in kc? i don't get it. i really don't get it. thefoodis okay - it's bar food. there are some things on the menu worth getting (cali blt), but other than that it's overpriced for what you get, and the service always is slow.
i don't know what it is about the location, but it doesn't matter which side you are on, or if you are outside, the service will be slow. i have yet to have a chance to get in and out in less than 90 minutes - and that is just for water & a sandwich (something that i can easily be in & out in other locations for 45 minutes).
one of the most annoying things is the lack of service. i ordered a chicken sandwich, and the chicken on the sandwich was non-existent. i would have said something to the waitress about it, but i couldn't find a single one for over 20 minutes. i finally gave up and ate the bread with cheese. don't let the runner leave without checking yourfood- otherwise you could end up with a sandwich without chicken, or a blt with one slice of bacon.
