great food, lousy service.. i love the food here, it is absolutely amazing and i reccomend it highly. there is no better place to get a philly cheese steak in kansas city. however, the service sucks, the wait is too long so i would reccomend calling in your order to go and then picking it up.

fun factor for ultra casual - but terrible food. don't go here with high expectations, this is fun and very urban in a sidewalk style. i love the people if you are looking for local artsy culture. this is an awesome place for bands and to hang out with the arts culture in crossroads kc. food is not recommended.

great find!. after traveling the usa and a good portion of the rest of the world with the military, i could not believe i had missed this little hole in the wall. my children have never eaten so much pizza, and begged for me to get another for later, unfortunately i still had 7 hours of driving to do or they would have gotten their wish.

my wife and i had their cheesesteaks, and with it being my favorite food to try at a new place, i was not disappointed. wow is all i can say....juicy, cheesy, flavorful, and filling. everything a cheesesteak should be. this is the best cheesesteak i have ever had, and yes....i have even had them at a few places in philadelphia! i hope to travel to grinders again!

great place! great beer!. my first trip to grinders was met with a delicious pint of pear cider on a nice fall day. the beer was cold with a great bite. they have a great selection of beers. my one disappointment was i ordered a margherita, which i knew came with red pepper flake but it was a bit too hot for my tastes. otherwise, it was great. heading there again tonight and i already know i'm having some tasty beer and beverages and i might even get some delicious fried mushrooms. yum.

so good. salads and sandwiches are my choices when going there and they are for sure to hit the spot. i had this salad that had a fried goat cheese medallion in the middle and it was one of the best salads i've ever had. my sandwich was very tasty.

a quirky little joint.... i usually try not to let other peoples' opinions affect mine, but with the amount of hype this place generates and the word-of-mouth cult following, i had extremely high expectations when i walked in the door. i took my seat by the back door and marveled at the atmosphere for about 20 minutes before i was able to tell someone what i wanted to eat. (i hope the scenery changes, because by the time i was done waiting, i had seen everything in the place, and even googled the wall decorations which i figured out are really snow skis. if it doesn't my next visit may be quite boring) i ordered two slices of pizza, which were bigger than i expected, but adequate for the cost. the first was the bengal tiger, which was featured on one of the cable food shows. the other was the bbq chicken. if i had ordered a typical meatball or pepperoni slice, i would have to say the pizza is ok. the only saving grace is the toppings. the two "fancy pants" slices i got were pretty darn good. the crust leaves a little to be desired, but every pizza place has their own take on what crust should taste like. i will definitely be back, just to try some more of the menu, but i won't be expecting much the next time.

i had a slice of heaven the other day at grinders on 18th st between oak and cherry. this slice was called goldberg "phats", and it was amazing! pesto sauce, cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers, not to mention the crispy thin crust that makes all of grinders' pizzas to die for. this is a pizza that i definitely need to try at home! grinders, featured on food network's din ers, drive-ins and dives, serves up specialty new york-style pizzas, philly cheese steaks, burgers, sandwiches, salads and wings. -whitney

i'm loving it. great location. great atmosphere. great food. can't ask for anything more. i like the choice of sitting inside, at the bar side, or cafe side. the pizza is beyond delicious and i love the wide variety of beverages.

has a great atmosphere and good service. usually get the steak sandwich but the cook makes to much racket when they make so i get a grinder now....food is a little overpriced and food is a little over-rated

maybe next time. i know, i said " likes it." for ambiance and service, i do. but the food really let me down. for starters, i ordered an iced tea. the server did not ask me the typical, "sweet or unsweet" so, i assumed unsweet. wrong! i got a big ol' gulp of, "would you like some tea with your sugar" moving on. we ordered the crab rangoon appetizer. we were off to a good start. warm, creamy and tasted like real crab! what a concept. we both ordered the philly cheesesteak with all the fixin's. my lunch date ordered it with both provolone and the traditional cheese whiz and i with only the provolone. for both of us the meat was really dry and lacked flavor. however, it helped his to have the whiz. on mine the meat was all glued together and stuck to the bun by a clump of provolone cheese. the peppers, onions and mushrooms had barely been sautéed. honestly, the mushrooms were raw and therefore spongy. not the caramelized onions and juicy 'shrooms i'm looking for on a philly. we also ordered fries and smoked gouda potato casserole. smoked cheese and potatoes - how can you go wrong? the casserole just wasn't a casserole in my opinion. thick sliced potatoes that were not cooked all the way through covered in a creamy béchamel-type sauce that only had a hint of smoke to it served in a bowl with some scallions on top. and, unfortunately, it was cold. to me, a casserole is baked so my hopes of warm, bubbly, smoky cheese were let down. okay, enough! there were many other interesting things on the menu. and the rave seems to be about the pizza. also, i saw a fried goat cheese pizza walk by that looked fabulous. obviously, many people who eat here love it. so, maybe it was an off day or maybe we ordered the wrong thing. i will definitely give it another try. the atmosphere is fun and that alone was worth the visit.
