unfortunate. we had a rather negative experience with grille 29 today, that i wish had been avoided, as we have had great meals there in the past. we made a reservation for a large party over a week ago to celebrate a graduation and share a meal with friends and family who have come from out of town. we confirmed plans with all our parties and thought we were all set until this afternoon, two days before the event, when grille 29 called to say that we would have to be split up into 3 booths in order to accommodate our party. while it is understandable that this is going to be a busy day, the possibility of this was never mentioned when the reservation was made. no apologies or other options were offered, and they did not even bother to admit that they had messed up, but blamed it on the weather. i was interrupted and talked over multiple times by the very rude manager, and to end the conversation, she said "well, do you want to keep the reservation?" needless to say, it was cancelled and we will not be going back. there are too manygoodrestaurants in town that offer excellent service, why put up with condescension and rudeness? luckily, i was able to book elsewhere, and won't take a chance again on a celebration being spoiled.

not what it used to be. we used to really enjoy grille 29. they knew how to pittsburgh a steak which is unusual in huntsville and the food was top notch. however the last two times we have been the food has gone downhill significantly. suddenly my steak comes with gravy on it? that something done to hide a poor cut of meat. and to not list the "glace" in the menu description is criminal. it would have let me know not to order the steak. i got the filet and my husband the rib eye. both were supposed to be pittsburghed. his most definitely was not. it was medium to medium rare. and rubbery, with a tendon right down the center of the steak. he could barely chew it it had so much bounce. his green beans tasted like someone had poured candle wax on them and his rice pilaf was only decent. definitely not worth the price. my filet was almost properly cooked and tasty enough but no more so than the local steak house. definitely a drop in quality. i paid an extra $2 for asparagus that had barely seen heat; it was practically raw. the garlic mashed potatoes weregoodbut it's hgard to mess those up. desert was tangerine sorbet served in a lacy almond flavored cup and it was the best part of the meal hands down.
we will not be going back to grille 29 after this. two bad meals in a row there are enough considering what they charge. i suggest you try the bottle instead. much better food.

unhappy valentine's day. yes, we had our first meal at grille 29 on maybe the busiest restaurant night of the year, so they deserve a pass for that. but the bigger problem was that they apparently hired a lot of inexperienced people for the wait staff. that's not the fault of the new people, that's a management problem. i asked the young man what bourbons they had and he said "j&b". i told him that was scotch, and he said, "yes, of course". i ordered a woodford and he told me that was agoodchoice. really bad faking it there. my wife ordered a white chocolate martini. i ordered the cheese plate appetizer. for dinner my wife ordered the seared ahi and the carpaccio salad. i asked the waiter's opinion on the filet mignon vs. a new york steak. he said that he liked a lot of marbling, so he recommended the new york. i didn't want to tell him that the new york is one of the leanest cuts. but i was leaning that way anyway, so i ordered the ny. someone brought a basket of bread. the drinks didn't come, and neither was any water offered. we waited a bit, then started to nibble on the bread without anything to wash it down. after about 15 minutes the drinks came. the martini was a minor work of art, really nice. after another 15 minutes, the appetizer plate came together with the salads. this all took up most of the table. it also made it very awkward to enjoy the appetizers in advance of the meal. we finished the appetizer, which was a generous serving of nice cheeses, and started on the salads when the entrees showed up. with a table full of unfinished food, we looked at the waitress helplessly, so she asked "do you want me to put this back in the heater for you". her style was a little more lawler's than fine dining. i said no, i don't want you to put it back in the heater, but we're not ready for that. she was confused by this, so i just said yes. we finished the salads and after a while the table was cleared. for the record, the salads were very good. the entrees returned a short while later. the waitress told me to be careful because my steak plate was very hot. i guess heat lamps aren't just for taco bell. they had apparently put the seared ahi in the refrigerator, because that plate was ice cold, rice, vegetables and all. what a shame, because the meals were probably verygoodat the time they were prepared. the place was busy, so we didn't complain, we just ate and left. very romantic evening, thanks grille 29.

birthday dinner. agoodfriend recommended this restaurant to us so the six of us went for a special birthday celebration. our friend reserved a special table which the restaurant stated would be no problem. arrived to find a party sitting at the table we had reserved but said we would wait as the hostess said they would be finishing up soon. enjoyed a drink at the bar which became 2 drinks and still no table as to the people occupying the table we had reserved decided to spend the evening sipping their coffee. since management told us there was nothing they could do about it after waiting an hour we decided to be seated anywhere available. after we were seated unfortunately things did not improve. not going to go into detail but as far as the service, and food at this place it is nothing special at the very high prices they charge. in my opinion there are many (cotton row, commerce kitchen) superior restaurants in huntsville to have a nice dinner out. i believe we got off to a poor start here as the rude people occupying the table we had requested would not leave but a competent manager could have found a way to have moved these folks along. in conclusion, don't waste your hard earned money st grill 29! go someplace else, lots of othergoodchoices!

went there for the first time (and last time) this week and ordered the crab cakes. for $24 i got 2 small crab cakes and a smattering of vegetables. not only was the portion too small the cakes were bland and flavorless. i grew up on the gulf so maybe my expectations were too high forgoodseafood this far inland.

in our circle of food-loving friends, grille 29 gets a lot of praise, and it’s forgoodreason: it’s an excellent place to enjoy a great meal. they offer food that anyone can enjoy, the environment is upscale without turning away bluejeans wearers, and the service is great.
