food is great, sommelier is odd. i had a very beautiful meal here and a lovely bottle of wine. i went with my sister. we had reservations but had to wait 20 minutes anyway although there were a number of empty tables. the hostess checked our names and left us for quite awhile. after being seated we were ignored by the sommelier throughout the meal until the end. the table next to us was taken by two couples as we were about halfway through our meal. the sommelier spent a tremendous amount of time with them providing samples and tastes of various wines. then he suddenly seemed to notice us and asked if i would like to taste some wonderful new wine they had gotten in? he leaned down and whispered this to me. i said we had just finished a very nice bottle and i was fine. he said this would be something i should try, etc. it was a nice glass of wine..... he charged me $15 for it. don't act like you you are doing me a favor then charge for it. the tourists next to us had alot of free tastes while they marveled and complained about the outside bathrooms.
not sure when i would spend another $250 for the insulting treatment by the hostess and sommelier. the wait staff and thefoodwere great. its expensive for being treated in a shabby way.

thefoodwas good. the service was terrible. the waiter was snobby and made all sorts of assumptions about who we are and what we'd like. (he was wrong.) it doesn't matter if thefoodis good or not. if the table cloth is dirty (it was), and the waiter is slow and rude, the quality of thefoodis difficult to appreciate.

we had a late dinner booking so we decided for a stroll and stumbled on this little gem. the poky interior with hushed banter made for a wonderful backdrop. after a quick chat with the bar staff we ordered a couple of cocktails, with the spiced manhattan taking the winning seat. after a couple more of the manhattans made with the in house spiced spirits we really didn't want to leave. thefoodthat was coming out looked fantastic and something that we would come back for.
this bar is where you want to come for honest service and a small amount of quietness.

thefoodthough, seemed a bit under seasoned to me, a bit on the bland side. but nonetheless very nice experience.

we've only been there for lunch, but we've been impressed every time. thefoodis consistently good and the wine list is great.

thefoodand the service were excellent; the prices comperable to an upscale brewpub at home (which makes it a bargain for carmel). the skirt steak and grilled chicken were excellent. the chowder was ok . there was not a large crowd at this time either, but i would view that as 'undiscovered', rather then a negative. a superb lunch, and a good value.

cool rooftop private party!. we had a wonderful breakfast buffet private party on their small, but very cool rooftop patio. the restaurant itself is elegant and classy. the service is friendly, efficient and semi-formal. there is inside or outside seating, and apparently a pet friendly area. thefoodwas perfect. presentation was well done. mimosas were excellent! another enchanting day trip to carmel by the sea. =)
