had high hopes for this restaurant. the appetizers a were good especially the four onion tart and the crab cakes. the ribeye was tough and chewy with very bland potatoes. my wife's ahi tuna was over cooked and the garlic noodles were overdone. dessert was a bust as well.

food is great, sommelier is odd. i had a very beautiful meal here and a lovely bottle of wine. i went with my sister. we had reservations but had to wait 20 minutes anyway although there were a number of empty tables. the hostess checked our names and left us for quite awhile. after being seated we were ignored by the sommelier throughout the meal until the end. the table next to us was taken by two couples as we were about halfway through our meal. the sommelier spent a tremendous amount of time with them providing samples and tastes of various wines. then he suddenly seemed to notice us and asked if i would like to taste some wonderful new wine they had gotten in? he leaned down and whispered this to me. i said we had just finished a very nice bottle and i was fine. he said this would be something i should try, etc. it was a nice glass of wine..... he charged me $15 for it. don't act like you you are doing me a favor then charge for it. the tourists next to us had alot of free tastes while they marveled and complained about the outside bathrooms.
not sure when i would spend another $250 for the insulting treatment by the hostess and sommelier. the wait staff and the food were great. its expensive for being treated in a shabby way.

the food was good. the service was terrible. the waiter was snobby and made all sorts of assumptions about who we are and what we'd like. (he was wrong.) it doesn't matter if the food is good or not. if the table cloth is dirty (it was), and the waiter is slow and rude, the quality of the food is difficult to appreciate.

we had a late dinner booking so we decided for a stroll and stumbled on this little gem. the poky interior with hushed banter made for a wonderful backdrop. after a quick chat with the bar staff we ordered a couple of cocktails, with the spiced manhattan taking the winning seat. after a couple more of the manhattans made with the in house spiced spirits we really didn't want to leave. the food that was coming out looked fantastic and something that we would come back for.
this bar is where you want to come for honest service and a small amount of quietness.

chef kurt grasing’s menu is based on fresh ingredients from california’s carmel coast and the central valley, and grasing’s was named the 2013 best restaurant in carmel by monterey county weekly. in addition to excellent lunch and dinner selections, the weekend brunch menu has an “endless brunch” option where your choice of 6 entrees (including garden omelette, eggs benedict, or waffle with fresh fruit) comes with unlimited mimosas for only $19.95.

the four onion tart was amazing. possibly the best manhattan that i've ever had.

my wife's tuna was good but my steak was over cooked.

dinner was great and service was exceptional. will definitely come back.

always good. been here several times for dinner and never had a bad meal. steaks are the best in the city that i've had. there fish is also very good and never overpowered by sauces. the service is friendly and attentive.

the food though, seemed a bit under seasoned to me, a bit on the bland side. but nonetheless very nice experience.

favorite dishes include the 16 oz. bone in rib eye, milk fed veal chop, seared pepper ahi tuna and the roasted california rack of lamb with savory pomegranate marinade.

loved the crab cakes. grasings was a perfect spot for a lunch in downtown carmel. the ambiance is elegant and classy. the crab cakes and a glass of chardonnay were both wonderful here. one of the best places to dine in carmel! hopefully we will be back for dinner again soon. ;)

not many occupied tables but our table of 6 received great service. extensive wine list with nominal mark up compared with other carmel restaurants. recommend steaks or lamb.

we've only been there for lunch, but we've been impressed every time. the food is consistently good and the wine list is great.
