gordon biersch brewery restaurant

mixed reviews. i read a lot of mixed reviews below. most of them bad. i ate here tonight for the first time. of my friends that accompanied me, two couples, one of the couples were the ones that recommended the establishment. they had been here two previous times. once was, as mentioned in a review below, the night the hood caught fire. obviously everyone being different some folks get upset about some things while others don't. my friend thought the hood fire was a little exciting and entertaining. i'm sure i would too. it wasn't so bad as to stop anything.
regarding another review: this is not a "fine dining" restaurant. it is nice. it is an upscale pub. you don't find multiple large screen tv's hanging on the walls loudly playing sporting events in a fine restaurant.
pros:
we shared three appetizers; the humus, southwest egg rolls & the crab & artichoke dip. two were very good, the humus and the egg rolls. the crab and artichoke dip was good but would have been better with either a touch of sweetness or a bit more seasoning.
my entree was the gorgonzola butter ribeye with skin on mashed potatoes and grilled green beans. the steak was tender and cooked perfectly with the right amount of char marks. the flavor was spot on. of course, as usual, i had to salt to taste.
my companions very much enjoyed their entrees was well. i tasted two of theirs and totally agree. they were the stir fry and the taco with black beans and rice plate.
the service was attentive, patient and pleasant. upon arrival we were seated within 5 minutes.
the prices were fair.
the ambiance was nice.
cons:
the waitress did not check in on us as often as i would have liked but i understand as they were very busy and it was not enough for anyone to complain about.
they were out of two appetizers, an entree and a desert. all of which the waitress had to come back to tell us after ordering these items.
my green beans were cool. not cold, just cool. good thing they were good anyway.
overall:
as per this experience i recommend this establishment and intend to return.

pensacola tourist. we went there at 5 on a saturday and there were a bunch of people who must have just gotten off work. they were very loud and trying to shout over each other. we had to scream our order to the waitress. the fish and chips was terrible, the fish was overdone, hard on the outside and dry in the middle. the fries were cold and floppy. i told the waitress about this and she just shrugged her shoulders and went on to the table that just had 6 guys sit down at it. my wife's food was much better and she shared with me. it's a good thing that my wife used to be a waitress. she doesn't like me to stiff the waitresses, but this place came close. she said the food wasn't the waitresses fault, but she could have taken it back or paid more attention. we were visiting for the weekend but we won't be returning to gordon's when we do return.

not worth your time. too many other places around that hands-down beat this place, including the hot dog cart we passed on the way. service was terrible, food was mediocre at best. waiter didn't write down our order as we placed it (always a pink flag for me!) - low and behold brought wrong kids meal for our toddler. then, brought corn dog that was black on the outside and weenie was still frozen! waiter did make it right - but that doesn't mean that our experience was already ruined. go somewhere else!!

mediocre food, and better beer can be found at other establishments at lower cost. terrible attitude with zero attention to detail. overrated in too many metrics to list here. disappointing!

the worst ever. preface: i joined urbanspoon for the first time because i was so appalled by my experience at gordon biersch!!

i was invited to this "fine" dining establishment last weekend for a friend's birthday. we had a party of 8 people. the first thirty minutes went fine--until the restaurant suddenly became very smoky (to the point that myself and my tablemates were coughing, itching our eyes, etc.)!! since no one offered any explanation, we waved our server down to ask what was up? she went to the back, came back with, "the vent fan appears to be broken tonight, no big deal!" and nothing else was said. no visit from the manager, no apologies or discounts, and the manager only emerged from his hiding hole in the kitchen when the silent fire alarm had been ringing for twenty minutes and the fire department came in! (we could tell the alarm was going off even with no sound because the bright lights on the alarms were flashing for quite some time.)

add these in as well: my girlfriend and i both ordered $12 salads and my serving size was twice as big as hers (huh??), the lobster bisque soup was chalky and disgusting, and a clearly drunk man stood up at the table next to us and abruptly fell down, almost knocking over his table and laying on the floor for a minute before being helped up by our waitress. what should gordon biersch have done? escorted the drunk out-of-towner straight out the front door. what did they do? the waitress said, after we inquired as to why he wasn't escorted out, that he'd "had a hip surgery last week and his pain pills were making him loopy". i could smell the liquor on his breath from ten feet away.

i will never return again. you couldn't pay me to. i wish i could get our sixty dollars and two-and-a-half hours back!!! zero stars!

awful. it's a pretty restaurant in a good location but that's about it. we were seated right away but our server was very inattentive, practically rushing us into ordering. food was terrible - overly salted chicken, under seasoned veggies, and mediocre rice... who screws up white rice? apparently these people as it was a mixture of crunch and munch. couldn't finish meal and server didn't seem concerned i left more than half of my meal on the plate. btw these are reasonable sized portions, not hanging off the plate whoa that's a lot of food servings. feel very disappointed that we wasted a good thirty bucks that could have been spent at a better restaurant. skip this place, head over to n'awlins jazz cafe and you can thank me later!

not good. went there for an early lunch and were seated right away. but they sat us right next to where the waiters input the orders so we felt very uncomfortable through the whole meal as there was always someone standing right beside us. the service was decent and they kept our drink orders filled.

the food was not too good. we ordered the sampler that came with potstickers - these tasted like a dollop of wasabi had been placed in them. it basically burned our sinuses. we didn't complain trying to be polite but it was one of the worst food experiences i've had, especially in a "nice" restaurant. the rest of the food was okay, not worth the price. the garlic fries were just okay. the flatbreads were soggy and the grilled cheese was lukewarm.

would not recommend.

decent vegetarian options. i don't think this place pulled up on the list of vegetarian restaurants i looked at so i wanted to mention it if you do want a few vegetarian options at a standard restaurant. each time we visited, the service was good and we didn't have to wait and that's a plus. the black bean burger and the veggie tacos are delicious. walking distance form the riverwalk/convention center and hotels in the cbd.

dinner. walked in on a sunday night to a packed restaurant & informed by hostess it would be a 30-minute wait, but found open seating at the bar. i ordered the steak & shrimp entrée, which was delivered in reasonable time. the mashed potatoes & veggies were tasty along with the shrimp, but i was anticipating a thicker steak (ny strip) that was actually closer to a flat iron. the bartenders were friendly & they have a good selection of micro brews.

order carefully. we used a groupon tonight and it was good. but i really think it greatly matters what you order. the steak frites (rare) over garlic fries was great. the shrimp & chicken potstickers were very good. but we were given conflicting info about the lobster mac and cheese so i didn't risk it.

the surf and turf burger was very good, actually the surf(lobster) didn't add much but overall a good burger. the garlic fries are very good...an interesting twist.

horrible. when reading the menu they have a great variety. but once our food came out i was so disappointed. i ordered the mushroom swiss burger mid rare. came out so over done that i didn't eat it. my husband ordered his steak medium and it came out so rare he couldn't eat it. sent the burger back and ordered the rice and beans. i figured being in new orleans you can't mess that up right? wrong! they we bland and covered in parsley. i don't know what anyone sees in this place. there are so many amazing dining options in this city- i won't be back!

disappointing food quality. 10-13-12 sat.6pm just came from gordon biersch in new orleans across from harrah's casino. took a table on the veranda with two friends for dinner service and food was "do not recommend to a friend."

we took a table outside, nice atmosphere, there were big screens on which to watch the college football games, a good thing on a saturday evening. hostess brought us to a table and said the she would be back to wipe it. she did but forgot to bring us any tableware or napkins. waiter took the drink order which they got right and kept filled.

two of us ordered the seafood gumbo. when it came, it was very chilly. not good for a hot soup dish. had to go back and it came back lukewarm. we then had to ask for the missing tableware.

1st person's entree came out by itself. a chopped salad which was not good. old lettuce and not to many mix-in's which were described on the menu. later a seafood cobb salad came out for me. only problem was it was a regular cobb salad. so it never hit the table and had to go back . the third person's order, a surf and turf burger (lobster on top of a cheese burger) came back with the revised seafood cobb. the recipient of the burger wasn't impressed and it was also cold with the warm fries. the cobb salad was pretty,but the crab was kind of old and the shrimp too. as a lifelong louisiana resident, it was passable at best.

the waiter was told the a 4th order would be a "take-out" order, a sweet & spicy cashew chicken stir fry*. he asked when we wanted it, he was told to put it in to go now. we finished the meal and sat around waiting on the take-out which was brought out in a dish for a table serving and had to go back for packaging. when the 4th person tried the stir fry less than 15 minutes later they took a few bites and said it was ok but not good. new orleans is a place where excellent food can be had easily. any restaurant less than good doesn't stay in business.

1) the manager needs to make more rounds. we noticed that it wasn't jsut us with the mixed up and bad orders. one order came to the door with a plate clearly on top of someone else's steak, not just on an overlapping plate. another waiter had to snatch it off to help serve it.

2) the hot food needs to be hot which it wasn't. the wait staff was friendly but the kitchen seems to send orders out in parts hence the coldness of the hot food.

3) the waiters were friendly but excited to be there and deliver a great experience. we normally tip above and beyond but this time it was not worth it.

i would tell someone to skip this one. there are a few other restaurants, ruth's chris, mulate's, 7, mannings, besh just a few steps away to try before this one.

service is everything i am sitting at the bar on a sunday evening and the place is almost empty and i was rushed to order and never was checked on or asked for a second beer in fact my empty is still sitting here. other than that chicken pizza and beers are good.

didn't like the alfredo sauce but everythan else was great!
