nice breakfast : ). we enjoyed our breakfast at the golden nugget one saturday morning. glad that we went in early (8:00) when we left the line was wrapping around the foyer. the blueberry muffins were good. the coffee ok- but we love strong coffee & espresso. our coffee machine is a nespresso... the breakfast was like we could get at home. it was good, but again we could make the same thing at home. no frills or pizazz... but most important no at home clean up! this will be our go toplacefor a full breakfast & no clean up!

the golden nugget
the outer décor does not do justice to the wealth of food history and taste that are housed in this building. its gold painted exterior is singularly adorned with the words “the golden nugget”. the name evokes visuals of the california gold rush. the restaurant was founded in 1962 but has moved to this new moraine location a few years ago. you walk inside and see that there is a line of about 23 customers standing in line theme park style. the line moves very rapidly as you take in some of the scenery. theplaceis very well lit, clean, and the workers are friendly. the service was efficient. my waitress sandy, was an extremely friendly multi-tasker who was able to hold a inviting conversation, explain the daily specials, all while continually refilling my coffee cup. there is an old chalk board listing the daily specials as well as a small placard on your table setting. i settled on the daily special of corned-beef hash, eggs over easy, and three banana pancakes all for 6.72$. this was a good combination of savory and sweet flavors. envision eggs benedict on the table across from you, banana pancakes covered in walnuts, eggs over easy, and cheese grits beside you. take a deep breath and you can smell the columbian coffee percolating. if you close your eyes you just might hear the sizzle of the maple cured smoked bacon in the kitchen. the food was amazing! the corned-beef hash included corned beef, petite diced potatoes, and onions. it was grilled with evidence of a slight pan seared crust. allow the fork to cut into your over easy eggs just slightly as to let the yolk run over the hash. it is simply scrumptious. what stole the show were the banana pancakes. the pancakes were fluffy, neatly stacked, covered in sliced bananas, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. after a healthy dose of butter and hot maple syrup, these pancakes transport your taste buds into another universe. you will not leave thisplaceunsatisfied. the menu items are most all under 10$. the food is consistently delicious. please visit the golden nugget and allow your taste buds to be excited, your wallet to remain full, and your heart satisfied.

great non-chain breakfast spot with southern charm. i usually try to find mom n pop spots for breakfast when we travel. i was worried when i pulled up because thisplaceis huge! when i walked inside there's a line to corral you as you have to wait to be seated. that goes to show how amazing thisplaceis. the breakfast was great. staff was very friendly and extremely helpful and quick to seat you, bring you a drink, and take your order. we didn't wait very long for anything and thisplacewas packed!
my favorite that we ordered were the cinnamon pancakes and the home fries which are sliced fresh. i wish i had a bigger appetite because i would have tried a lot more. my only wish is that they offered single servings of pancakes. i was desperate to try just one buckwheat pancake but couldn't get my daughters to share a short stack with me.
my daughters loved the hostess and waitresses accents. we are far enough south to get the southern drawl and they thought it was hilarious!

terrible. thisplaceis cheap, and i think that's the only reason it has so many good reviews. the food is bland, the syrup is like water, the "omelettes" we ordered were really just a thin, flavorless frittata that didn't even taste like cheese was added.

this meal was a big disappointment, and the only upside was the price of the bill.

bestplacefor breakfast and lunch. the golde nugget is one of the last family owned quality breakfast/lunch places in the dayton area. it's been around for years. most people now think of bob evans or the crackle barrel for breakfast or lunch. the golden nugget has more selections at a better price with the same or bigger portions. the service is excellent. your coffee cup will never be empty. it's one of those sleeper restaurants you don't hear about. go there you won't be disappointed. pass it on to your friends.

thisplaceis just so so. nothing to write home about. the food is nothing i can't get anywhere else that serves breakfast and lunch. i have eaten here 4 times and my food was always cold. i don't understand all the hype, but could be because they have been around for many years. my family and i will not be back.

good food. i have been going to thisplaceover 40 years and it stays the same. the food is always good and people are friendly. it is my favoriteplacefor breakfast. you never have an empty coffee cup. the portions are large so if you are a small eater you might want to chose wisely or share with a friend. i have never had a bad meal there yet.

greasy spoon. like another reviewer, i don't know who is writing these reviews because i have never spoken to anyone who actually liked the golden nugget. the service is slow. the food is mediocre at best. but the wholeplaceand all of the food reeks of grease. in my experience, the wait staff has been rude. i shall never return.

not a stand out. unless you arrive super early, you can expect to wait in line - a long time. the employees that pull hostess duty can be a little odd. not friendly, they recognize the locals, but they aren't especially friendly. same with the crew that pours coffee while you review the menu. at least one of them can be downright surly. all the waitresses we've had have been good, so no complaints there.
my husband is a huge bacon lover. anyplacethat specializes in breakfast really should have very good bacon. thick, big slices of bacon. the golden nugget does not. the bacon here is thin and not especially flavorful, not even worth ordering.
the potato pancakes are the best i've ever had anywhere, europe included. most other things we've tried on the menu are ok, but no other outstanding dishes.
they also have a lunch menu but nothing sounds very interesting.
it's usually busy so it's obviously popular with the locals. we've stopped making the trip. there are better options closer to home.

huge portions, great prices!. stopped in for breakfast while in dayton and this looked like theplaceto be. i was worried with all the reviews about huge lines but when we got there around 8:30 we were immediately seated and served. we had one of the wednesday specials which was the country omelet, home fries, and pancakes. the omelet had cheese and sausage in it and was huge but very tasty. the other half of the giant plate housed my home fries which were a little on the bland side. i ordered blueberry pancakes with it and they came on their own separate plate and had blueberries cooked into the pancakes and compote on the side. i usually don't favor compotes but this one was rather tasty, although i didn't get a chance to try the pancakes fresh because i was too stuffed midway through my omelet. overall everything was very good and the staff was friendly. i would visit again if i were in town!

didn't stand out. 3 stars. after moving back to dayton from sf, i asked a friend where a greatplacefor breakfast was. golden nugget was the breakfast place. so we went. decor was decent, think upscale denny's type interior. ambiance was mostly elbow to elbow feeling. crowded, but the line moved fast. the breakfast i had was good, no complaints about it, but i only found it to be average. nothing about it made me feel compelled to tell anyone about my dining experience. there was just nothing outstanding, unique or superb about it. maybe if theplacehad better ambiance it might have made it more of a dining "experience" which might have made it worthy of mentioning in conversation. if i happen to be nearby, and looking for breakfast sure. is it good enough to drive by a bunch of other places that have a less "elbow to elbow" feel, not in my book.
