this was very average can't believe the ratings are even this high there isn't one thing special about it but the lines are out the door. service was goodfoodaverage.

the golden nugget
the outer décor does not do justice to the wealth offoodhistory and taste that are housed in this building. its gold painted exterior is singularly adorned with the words “the golden nugget”. the name evokes visuals of the california gold rush. the restaurant was founded in 1962 but has moved to this new moraine location a few years ago. you walk inside and see that there is a line of about 23 customers standing in line theme park style. the line moves very rapidly as you take in some of the scenery. the place is very well lit, clean, and the workers are friendly. the service was efficient. my waitress sandy, was an extremely friendly multi-tasker who was able to hold a inviting conversation, explain the daily specials, all while continually refilling my coffee cup. there is an old chalk board listing the daily specials as well as a small placard on your table setting. i settled on the daily special of corned-beef hash, eggs over easy, and three banana pancakes all for 6.72$. this was a good combination of savory and sweet flavors. envision eggs benedict on the table across from you, banana pancakes covered in walnuts, eggs over easy, and cheese grits beside you. take a deep breath and you can smell the columbian coffee percolating. if you close your eyes you just might hear the sizzle of the maple cured smoked bacon in the kitchen. thefoodwas amazing! the corned-beef hash included corned beef, petite diced potatoes, and onions. it was grilled with evidence of a slight pan seared crust. allow the fork to cut into your over easy eggs just slightly as to let the yolk run over the hash. it is simply scrumptious. what stole the show were the banana pancakes. the pancakes were fluffy, neatly stacked, covered in sliced bananas, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. after a healthy dose of butter and hot maple syrup, these pancakes transport your taste buds into another universe. you will not leave this place unsatisfied. the menu items are most all under 10$. thefoodis consistently delicious. please visit the golden nugget and allow your taste buds to be excited, your wallet to remain full, and your heart satisfied.

been there...an original.... i've been eating at golden nugget since 1957. i grew up next to the thomases's/serametis's on neal ave. in dayton view. also...started eating at the other thomas restaurant (the g& l) on salem ave. in 1957. that restaurant closed. i'd say that 58 years of eating at establishments owned by this family would give some credence as to how successful they are. they also owned the elite market on north main street (around the forest ave area) for many years...as grandpa seramitis (spelling) ran that end of the family business. son greg owns and operates doubleday's on alex road...his younger sisters run the golden nugget.

maple syrup? real maple syrup is thin...almost like water. those criticizing their syrup are novices used to eating syrup produced by aunt jemima filled with corn syrup.

this establishment has close to a century of history infoodpreparation of all sorts to be sold and enjoyed by their customers. let's make sure that you never make a mistake occasionally...as of course...you never have. even i have been disappointed occasionally over 57 years with service i deemed below their normal excellence. get over it and we'll make sure it's noted when you make a mistake.

terrible. this place is cheap, and i think that's the only reason it has so many good reviews. thefoodis bland, the syrup is like water, the "omelettes" we ordered were really just a thin, flavorless frittata that didn't even taste like cheese was added.

this meal was a big disappointment, and the only upside was the price of the bill.

this place is just so so. nothing to write home about. thefoodis nothing i can't get anywhere else that serves breakfast and lunch. i have eaten here 4 times and myfoodwas always cold. i don't understand all the hype, but could be because they have been around for many years. my family and i will not be back.

good food. i have been going to this place over 40 years and it stays the same. thefoodis always good and people are friendly. it is my favorite place for breakfast. you never have an empty coffee cup. the portions are large so if you are a small eater you might want to chose wisely or share with a friend. i have never had a bad meal there yet.

great food. golden nugget has been around a long time. they are consistant on thefoodand it is always good. you see a lot of the same people working there all the time. i have never had a bad meal there. employees seem happy. one told me that was a great place to work. i eat there when i can because i know i am going to get greatfoodand good service. i recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful meal.

greatfoodand service...nice to actually taste the food...ie: the french toast very tasty....2 thumbs up

okay but bench seating?. love breakfastfoodbut hate sitting too close to other diners. they got rid of a bunch of booths and went with that horrible bench seating where someone you don't know is elbow length away!foodand service aren't special enough to put up with that.

pancake hse.. i worked here from 1956 to 1977 and we had great food. home made mush and baked apple pancakes in the oven. it was so delicious. we had some fine waitresses too that stayed forever. we had lines around the building that seemed like they lasted forever. im 75 yrs old now but it was the bestfoodand job i ever had, ide love to go back.

used to be. i've been going to the golden nugget for 30+ years, but i had my last trip there on sunday, jan. 6th. thefoodis not what it used to be. they used to have the best omelets, but no more. i had a ham & cheese omelet, pancakes, home fries & coffee. all was cold and very disappointing. tasted like it was all made ahead. my guest had biscuits & gravy, which was also cold and biscuits were microwaved and rubbery along with cold coffee. she drinks decaf and the waitress slopped regular into the cup and walked away before we could tell her it was supposed to be decaf. prices are too high.

people come here for delicious meals, and even the simple dishes really rock. golden nugget has a different breakfast special every day, featuring a ton of greatfoodat outrageously low prices.

great breakfast. classic breakfast diner with greatfoodserved fast. you won't leave hungry.

pretty decent. i actually had a good time here - thefoodis not outstanding, but its definitely good by dayton's standards. i enjoyed my visit (s) here and i will return in the near future. good pancakes!

let's get serious. there is absolutely nothing exceptional about golden nugget, and if i had a dollar for every person that sang the praises to me of how unbelievable thefoodis here, i'd be completely broke. it's the standard cheap, greasy spoon, pancake house you can find anywhere. it's a prime location that seems to have a long kettering/morain following, but is by no means deserving of a rating this high. the difference between the golden nugget and an ihop or a denny's is neglegable. order the coffee and wake up people!!!

greasy spoon. like another reviewer, i don't know who is writing these reviews because i have never spoken to anyone who actually liked the golden nugget. the service is slow. thefoodis mediocre at best. but the whole place and all of thefoodreeks of grease. in my experience, the wait staff has been rude. i shall never return.
